It happens sometimes for a pack to be overstuffed by a few cards, so it also happens that an occasional pack has less cards. It's pretty rare. If you'd noticed it, that would have been a cool pack to keep sealed for an error collection. I hope you didn't charge him for that pack.

The half art cards you asked about are called Ancient Trait Pokemon. They have unique mechanics and a different card layout to match. They are themed after the 2014 Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby video games. These cards can be found in Primal Clash, Roaring Skies and Ancient Origins as well as a handful of promo cards. They also range in printed rarity from Uncommon to Holo Rare with each non promo having a RH variant.

I had an entire case of obsidian flames that had an extra holo/rare card in each pack. At the end of the case I was missing only 1 illustration rare from my master set. Ran into the same with a 151 ETB. Never seen a pack missing cards however.

I got back into Pokémon back in 2014 after playing the xy games. I was 20 at the time. I didn’t buy booster boxes back then so I did miss out on holding sealed product like that but I definitely lucked out by getting in before the boom of 2016. I was able to pick up primal clash and other xy sets for years. I just never thought to sit on much of it and opened the packs. Close to a complete master set on most xy sets now.
