Recorded a few weeks back. Here I try the 49:1 end fed wire ham radio antenna with a shorter wire for 40m and 20m with great success. I stayed overnight in the bunk barn which is my favourite overnight stop when the weather is unpredictable for sleeping under canvas.
I'm a licensed amateur radio operator from the United Kingdom. My KZbin channel features videos focusing on operating portable radio from various locations plus how to videos, tutorials, insights and conversations in the hobby.

I'm a huge fan of the IC-7200. I've only ever heard one once but ever since, I've wanted one! They just have everything I want in a HF radio. Great video, as always. Nice to catch up on one from a while back! And as you asked, no I don't leave my teabag in. Always brew Black tea up to 4 mins at 100c. No longer 😅

Thanks Carl, another interesting video particularly for those of us that are relatively new to the hobby. Nice to see you making antennas and not reviewing too-expensive-for-majority out of the box kit! Keep up the good work. 73

That's a great result. Gotta love the EFHW :) I've got my 40m wires cut to 20m, and normally end up folding back about 20cm, so I guess 19.8m is about right length for that frequency. Strangely, I've got one made from DX10, another from a no-name steel reinforced copper wire, and the last is sotabeams lightweight antenna wire. I'd have thought that the difference in velocity factor would have resulted in different lengths, but I guess they must all be fairly similar :)

Thanks for the video Carl. The EFHW has become my portable go to antenna and if you have it cut for 40m, it should also work on 20,15 and 10 without a tuner.

Great idea of using the bungee cord to peg it down to absorb wind flex.

Another very informative video Carl I myself am always experimenting with the long wires with good results, I personally use the braided quality mainly for strength but get equally good results with the coated copper as you have. The Chinese food looked amazing so did the brew...keep them coming Carl I check daily for the next instalment...73s de G7WBB

Man I really enjoy your videos when you mix Ham radio and cook. Let me ask you, how you are adding the ginger? Shredded? Do you combine it with curry? I do use curry a LOT while I'm cooking. And I'm not from India hi hi. Talking about antennas, the 49:1 EFHW are my main option when I go camping or POTA. If I'm transmitting from the beach, nothing beats a quarter wave whip vertical and a Ground copper rod in the sand. Being QRP I've got JAPAN in 17 meter 5 watts. (I'm in Tampa FL.) Australia 5 watts 10 meter.

Cheers, for this meal I sliced them across the stem very finely so they almost melt in the sauce or at least lose that strong ginger heat.

My inflatable antenna doesn't work well. It is very sensitive to ground and the way the cable lies on the floor. I made QRP contacts with FT8 on 30m but it is really poor with TX. For RX it works, but not TX. Hanged it from trees, poles, windows... the same.

@@M0SZT Same. RX is great but not had much luck with contacts or RBN. I remember Tom saying it's important to use it with a tuner.
