biwa rig have been used not only for shallow water application, but for deep water fishing as well for quite sometime in Japan now. Also, over there, it is known as "Mid Strolling" (ミドスト)for mid range strolling. (which they've been using this technique for different range of water regardless of name of this technique)

I was under the impression from all of my research that the Lake Biwa rig was hover shot fishing a paddle tail worm and that when they fish a ballhead like this and wiggle the rod tip while retrieving the bait that it was called mid strolling or midst for short, that’s just what I had gathered from all the Japanese videos I watch

I’ve been using the Ryugi Vespa ball head size 2, 1/16th oz with a 2” easy shiner for awhile now for early post spawn bass on BFS gear. I like the Ryugi more than the keitech ball head because the keeper is much better. I like tungsten for size but will give the midst a shot, the weed guard would be a plus.

I’ve been killing it with this rig on ultralight. Caught a 4 lber which is large for the lake. It’s funny how the big fish won’t hit the regular sized stuff, but when you downsize they suddenly want to bite.

I have been using very successfully the swimming yum dinger cut to 3" on a 1/16 ballhead for whippers and white bass that refuse to bite bigger baits. Catch tons of smallies, spots and LM on it too. Another body that works really well is the 3" slider grub.

Yeah this was a really big article in In-fisherman about 15 years ago. I bought a (now-discontinued) Fenwick Elitech River Runner light power trout rod about 15 years ago to throw 2-3" grubs and paddletails on light ballhead jigs for white bass, walleyes, smallies etc. Recently, I've been swimming 2.8 white ghost Keitech's texas rigged on #1 EWG's with 1/16th oz bullet weights because I ran out of weedless ballheads.

@ripptydevibes2581 Жыл бұрын
One of the biggest overlooked secrets to this rig is everyone over fishes it. When you watch spawning smelt preparing in the dark, a single tail kick drives the smelt 1.5ft then they suspend like a stick. Basically, paddling baits automatically over apply action . Paddle tails will help slow the bait, but you cant control the paddling. Straight tails with tiny "pops" is the only way to truely mimic smelt. Not to mention the power of dead sticked smelt presentations can end up with your buddy losing the rod right outa his hands lol.

That little bait should be absolutely killer for snook under lights at night in Florida. Really anything might bite them that eats glass minnows, which are little bait fish that can be hatd to imitate. You'd probably need a stronger hook or jig head for heavier tackle.
@EK99_00 Жыл бұрын

So, this is different than the hover rig?
@MLipinski1002 жыл бұрын
I dunno guys. This feels like If I were to come up with a brand new rig, let's call it the Matt Rig, that utilizes a bobber stop, a flipping weight, and an EWG hook, in order to fish soft plastics in and around cover. If this can be called the Biwa Rig, the Texas rig shall henceforth be known as the Matt Rig. Maybe the nuance is too nuanced for me :)
@thehookuptackle_usa2 жыл бұрын

Hey Ben couple of wind buster questions since I consider you the expert. 1) when will they be in stock? 2) I fish a lot of cypress trees with a wacky worm and is the wind buster strong enough to get them out of the trees and does it skip baits well? O and Sorry these may be off topic questions but I don’t have social medias and this is the only way to ask.
@thehookuptackle_usa2 жыл бұрын
Windbuster will be back in April 2023. It’s a strong rod, but definitely not a flipping style rod - so just depends on how heavy the cover is

The hottest lure in Japan is literally the exact same lure used for decades on the coast, can be bought in every Walmart in the US, and only costs a couple dollars. JDM lures are just overpriced imitations of widely used rigs that target ignorant fishermen.
