Paint correction - swirl mark removal
What Is Car Paint Correction?
Also known as swirl mark removal or machine polishing, paintwork correction is the reduction or removal of marks in the top layer of paint to produce a more refined finish.
Paint correction can involve either the hand or machine application of varying grades of cleanser, polish or compound. The majority of work is usually done with rotary machine polishers to get the best level of correction.
Good paint correction requires a high degree of skill and concentration, but done properly, it really can transform the look of a car by dealing with (amongst other things); hard water marks, etching caused by bird muck or fly squash, swirl marks, scratches and fading.

I usually don't comment much, but I just have to say that I really love your videos...this one is a bit longer, but not overly so...they are mostly all just straight to the point, no BS, no fillers and no filibuster! I really hate having to watch a video for 20 minutes that only has 5 minutes of actual information or action worth watching. So a big thank you for that and keep them coming (when you have time)! :)

Thanks for the video, I felt like I truly understand more about the finer detail of swirl removal and I’m thinking about getting a paint depth gauge due to this video. Most likely a cheap one as I’m just maintaining my personal vehicles and maybe a few family members; which may not be completely accurate but it’ll be able to give me a starting point. My real question is if I start with something like a 4.3Mil and polish down to 4Mil; after applying my sealant, wax, or ceramic will this be adding any thickness? And if so, how much are we taking? 4.1? 4.2? Back to 4.3? Thanks again!

I was actually pretty surprised to see how high the GU was getting started given how bad it was. Also I love those Lake County Lambswool pads. After I wash them I put them on the 7 inch backing plate that comes with the HF Drill Master rotary as it dries so it avoids that bacon look otherwise. lol

Basically dead on call of the paint thickness just by looking at it.. That was awesome. Brian, do you use Optimum CCR at all after you demo'd it? Even without extensive patches of clear coat missing, could it still be a practical option for something like this after the cutting step? Then polish it and ceramic on top? 👍👌✌
