I always felt bad for the Rays because they play in a stadium that's in one of the worst locations to put a baseball field. The infrastructure getting to the ball park is a big reason why they don't draw crowds. 3 PM is a god awful time to schedule a game there. There's literally no public transport to the field and the ballpark is located on a peninsula connected by a narrow bridge. There's only one way in and out and if there's an accident on the highway people are essentially screwed from getting to the ballpark.

@robitpower Жыл бұрын
I can tell you as a Rays fan and someone who lives in the Tampa Bay area is that the Rays are meant to represent *Tampa Bay,* not the city of St. Pete or Tampa itself. The Rays technically represent at least 3 counties, and even in the most limited capacity, the stadium is placed as far away from the geological center of the Tampa Bay metropolitan area as can be. Compared to other Tampa Bay stadiums, like Raymond James and Amalie Arena, they a more accessible compared to Tropicana Field. To get to the Trop, you either have to funnel through a couple bridges over the actual Tampa Bay, or take the long way around it north or south. It's hard to get people willing to go from, say, Lakeland to St. Pete because of all that congested and funneled traffic through just one or two interstate bridges. That's why a lot of fans wanted the new stadium to be built in Tampa, or maybe even the neighboring community of Ybor City and start putting some development into the area, especially considering how Ybor's historic district could easily benefit from the influx of people during baseball season with bars and lounges and restaurants.
@Mr1stcat Жыл бұрын
This is insane LMFAO the Rays had a great first half and now they're out of the postseason
@Xrball Жыл бұрын
It comes down to the fact that Tampa's taxpayers and government don't want to foot the bill for a new stadium. The owner of the Tampa Bay Lightning wants a monopoly on the area around Amalie Arena and everyone else is going to prioritize the Buccaneers when it comes to who gets their tax money. As for the comparison between the Twins and Rays attendance yesterday, St. Pete has half the population of Minneapolis and most of its residents are retirees that moved from the northeast or midwest, which is why most Rays games at home against NY/Boston/Chicago teams are their most attended of the season. I'm a Floridian and lifelong Rays fan but unfortunately there aren't enough native Floridians that care about baseball in the area to garner a fanbase comparable to the size of larger market teams.
@Cali_Soldado Жыл бұрын
This is so frustrating. Getting to the Trop is terrible and knowing that they're just going to build the new stadium next to the Trop is a slap in the face! I'm legit contemplating canceling my season tickets due to the fact that the commute from the other side of the bay is the worst. Going to a Lightning game isn't painful, it's more expensive but at least the venue doesn't suck.

It's worse when you consider that the Rays were floated about as World Series contenders after that 13-0 start to the 2023 season. The only thing embarrassing is how no one understands this stadium situation. In San Diego we had a stadium situation that of course ended with us losing our team due to bad ownership. Fans would routinely not show up to games during these years to protest; however, in the case of football, especially with all the transplants here, the stadium would still get filled anyways, just with the fans of opposing teams. If they had just listened to the fans then they would still have fans and they would not moved. In the Rays situation the fans have been asking forever for a new stadium that is actually in Tampa, and now they got one and it’s going to be in the same shitty place. Of course they are pissed and of course they are not going to attend the games. Besides the fact that it takes two hours to get in and out of St. Pete the stadium sucks, and it’s easier to protest the stadium and watch at home. Anyone condemning a very good fan base, just like people condemned us former chargers fans, is only doing so when they have no idea what the fuck they are talking about, like parts of this video and many of the comments. If you don’t know then just shut up.

The Braves had a simulated game between the “Home” Braves and “Away” Braves and there were about couple thousand in attendance. It was at the same times as the wild card games.

The braves probably have more in attendance to watch practice this week

Time for Tampa to move to another city period, they can build all the shiny new stadiums anywhere they like but the results will echo the Marlins in Florida.

Fans: we don't want a stadium in St. Pete. The parking is horrible and traffic is even worse Ownership: ok, how about we build a new stadium in St. Pete? Embarrasing. Fans would care if going to a game didn't mean sitting in traffic for 3 hours and then taking another hour to find parking. It's not hard to figure out why fans don't go.

Baltimore and Houston in the finals. Dodgers and Atlanta in the finals. That would be a great finals matchup.

Half the seats being empty for a playoff game was disgusting. Florida fans are awful. Wrigley is in the absolute worst location yet sells out.

Honestly, as a rangers fan, we didnt play playoff ball yesterday, but the Rays looked really rough yesterday. They will probably take the last 2 considering rangers bullpen, but still, that was tough to watch.

You are too generous. If the Rays play like spring training again, your team will face Baltimore. I expect Baltimore to beat Texas.

Nothing has made me happier this postseason than seeing the rays get swept out of the playoffs. Tampa doesn't deserve a team, full stop.

That the franchise doesn't even seem to acknowledge the location issue just feels like a middle finger to the fan base honestly

That is why the planned new stadium will have resident pay pigs nearby, I mean resident landwhales. That is why it is part of the land agreement. People are not in the mood to travel that distance at that time, especially when they are not even playing in Tampa Bay.

It’s also a newer franchise. Twins for example have been established since 1901. Im sure a lot more attached to the team in Minnesota in comparison. Just a thought

They were in Washington, D.C. as the "Washington Senators" from 1901-1960. They moved to Minneapolis and became the "Minnesota Twins" in 1961. But I get ur point.

No WS games were played in the daytime until the 70's.Only reason they switched to night games was for TV ratings.Minnesota had 38,000 for a 4 pm start. Face it Florida is not a baseball state and never will be.Marlins have problems with attendance also.

“Somewhere way more accessible”, it’s not like you have to take 2 boats and a helicopter to get to the stadium. That being said, never been, and I live in FL. Nobody’s trying to pan fry their sacks on stadium seats in the summer down here.
