I have to respectfully disagree with this 21:41. The “the Mets have no other options outside of Pete at 1B” take. Vientos shifts to 1b. And then even if we miss out on bregman we have a plethora of almost MLB ready prospects who can 3b. Plus eventually Mauricio once he heals up more and Baty getting one more chance to prove himself
@sclafantasy7 күн бұрын
I would agree but Stearns was surprisingly adamant about Vientos at 3rd a couple weeks ago. If they were even considering moving him, there’s no reason to definitively declare he’s our 3rd baseman moving forward.

I think you’re wrong when you talk about other options to move on from Alonso. There are at least three minor leaguers that could slot into the lineup, whether playing first base or shifting Vicente’s back to first and bringing up a young player to replace him at third, they have options. Hell, Jeff McNeal can play any position they want to fill the gap. I won’t be shocked if they take the youth movement approach and Alonso goes elsewhere. I think Alonso makes them the best team in the short term, but I can believe that a young player is better in the long run.

@Met'd Up Podcast No. 7/158m would have been a disaster for the Mets. "RBIs..."? You're kidding, right? And if Alonso really wanted to be in New York, he wouldn't have soaked himself in Greed du jour and gotten Boras. ---How likely is Stearns to commit to the worst IF corner defense in baseball by signing Alonso for even one year? And committing to Alonso for 3/77m with player options for 2026 and 2027 he's guaranteed to take? He's fast on his way to becoming Kingman v. 1972-75. Alonso is more likely to not really be worth a lineup spot in 2025 than he is to put up a 3 WAR season. Ah, you started off so well, then began talking about Alonso. Even just putting a 1 WAR guy at 3B you pick up another win by moving Vientos to 1B, or worth more than what Pete's likely to produce in 2025. I'd rather sign Kim for 1/12m and figure he's arriving June 1, and live with Mauricio at 3B until then.
