Too bad that Puerto Rico has been a United States US) colony for the past 127 years! What is not shown in this video is the two thirds (6 million) of Puerto Ricans who live away from our national territory, and the half of those living in Puerto Rico who live in poverty. Are you aware that the US has refused to comply with 42 United Nations' resolutions demanding that it immediately return Puerto Rico's sovereigny to the Puerto Ricans?

Hi Jose; recently I read this; " There won’t be any new states admitted”, says Mitch McConnell, Senate Republican leader. So I guess we are stuck for now on this political status...which in my opinion is a bit better. Why? Cheaper health services, medications (many are made here)...see the documentary called Sicko by Michael Moore, car insurance, housing (compared to many places in the US, education is actually cheaper here too. Im not aware with the United Nations resolution but I doubt that'll have any effect here. By the way, we have been a territory 532 years if we count Spain. I actually searched various sources and cost of living in PR would go up if it were to be a state. Here is what I found; If Puerto Rico became a U.S. state, it's likely the cost of living would increase for several reasons: Federal Income Taxes: Currently, Puerto Rico residents are mostly exempt from paying federal income taxes, except on income earned outside Puerto Rico. Statehood would likely subject residents to federal income taxes, potentially lowering their disposable income and raising the effective cost of living. Increased Federal Regulations: As a state, Puerto Rico would need to comply with all U.S. federal regulations, which could affect the costs of goods and services. For instance, federal minimum wage laws and labor regulations would fully apply, potentially raising wages but also increasing costs for local businesses, which may pass these on to consumers. Changes in Funding and Benefits: While Puerto Rico currently receives federal funds, it gets less per capita than states do for programs like Medicaid. With statehood, Puerto Rico would likely receive more federal funds, which could boost infrastructure and public services. However, this influx could lead to increased demand for goods and services, raising prices due to limited local supply. Real Estate Market: Increased federal investment, combined with new interest from mainland investors and developers, could lead to a surge in real estate prices. More people might see Puerto Rico as a more attractive place to move, which would increase demand and drive up property values, rental costs, and housing expenses. Tourism Impact: Statehood might boost tourism as travel would feel more straightforward to many Americans. This could elevate prices for hospitality, dining, and retail, especially in popular areas, affecting residents who rely on those services. Import Dependency and Cost of Goods: Puerto Rico’s reliance on imports would continue, but statehood could limit existing tax exemptions on imports and other goods. Coupled with the Jones Act, which requires goods shipped to Puerto Rico to come on U.S.-flagged ships, this may increase the cost of goods. These factors mean that while statehood could bring economic growth and increased federal support, it might also drive up the cost of living as the island adjusts to new tax structures, regulations, and market forces.

@@Jurutungo I advocate that the 9 milion Puerto Ricans wordwide engage in permanent resistance to force the United States (US) to comply with the 42 United Nations' resoutions demanding that it immediatetly return Puerto Rico's sovereignty to the Puerto Ricans. What the US has done in Gaza, like 127 years of US' colonialism in Puerto Rico are crimes against humanity. More at www.TodosUnidosDescolonizarPR.blogspot.com. Thank's for your comments!
