There are 4 great bands in history: 1.) Earth, Wing & Fire; 2.) Queen; and 3.) Rolling Stones/Beatles.[tied] ❤❤ To hear any of these groups perform live is to hear pure genius talent (musicians and singers). They are all beyond modern voices and musicians of today. Queen performed this song during Live Aid and made it unreachable as a band performance. RIP - Freddie. 🙏🏽🙏🏽

And I love the way Queen (and several other bands of the era) wrote songs that can be interpreted in many ways...the part about killing a man could be that, as a gay man in the 80's he would have been seen as less than normal, especially if someone suspected him of giving someone HIV, I could see them calling him a murderer...but from the other side I can see him feeling so "Outside" of society that he well could have thought of killing himself, so the man could be him...

Queen is a British rock band that was formed in 1970 and was comprised of: Freddie Mercury - Lead vocals and piano Roger Taylor - Drummer and vocals Brian May - Lead guitar and vocals John Deacon - Bass guitar "Bohemian Rhapsody" released originally in 1975 is the creation of Freddie Mercury but he never told anyone what he was thinking when he wrote the lyrics. Freddie often writes in metaphors so I would not suggest trying to take these lyrics literally. He wanted listeners to be able to apply to the song whatever meaning it had to them personally. Not what it meant to him. BTW - Freddie did admit that it was composed of three separate songs that he had been working on but could not seem to finish. So he decided to mash them together, adding some transitions and bridges, and created "Bohemian Rhapsody". "Bohemian Rhapsody" can be broken down into 6 parts: Part I is the "Into". The video image shows the four members of Queen singing and harmonizing the lyrics of the "Intro" in acapella. In reality, it is only Freddie's voice you hear on the recording. Freddie laid down 5 separate tracks of himself singing and harmonizing with himself. (FYI - multi-tracking and overdubbing runs rampant in Bohemian Rhapsody.) Next is the "Ballad" portion of the song ('Mama, just killed a man'). Freddie had worked on this song for years but it never had a name. The other members of Queen tentatively titled it "Freddie's Cowboy Song". The lyrist Tim Rice (who wrote the lyrics for "Jesus Christ, Superstar", "Evita", "Alladin", "The Lion King", ...) who was a close friend of Freddie's believes this portion of the song’s lyrics were about Freddie confessing to his fans that he was gay (a radical and scary thing to do in 1975). The third section is the guitar solo. This is the only part of Bohemian Rhapsody not written by Freddie. Freddie told Brian that he wanted a guitar solo in the song and where he wanted it to fit into the song but left it to Brian to create. Brian wanted to have his guitar effectively sing a verse that would inject a different melody. He heard something in his head. He said that he could hear this melody and had no idea where it came from. That melody isn’t anywhere else in the song, but it’s on a familiar chord sequence, so it dovetails in quite nicely. The guitar solo leads to the fourth section the "Operatic" section. Freddie not only loved Rock but he loved Opera. He was always fascinated with the idea of combining rock and opera. It took 3 weeks to record "Bohemian Rhapsody" and the "Operatic" section was much smaller when they began recording but Freddie kept adding to it. There are various lyrics in the "Operatic" section that seems to refer to the band. Freddie appears to cast himself as the character, Scaramouch, a stock clown of 16th-century Italian literature who dances around making a fool of himself but speaks the truth. Galileo who was an Italian astronomer, physicist, and engineer definitely refers to Brian (Queen's lead guitarist) who in real life is Dr. Brian May, a scholar with a Ph.D. in Astrophysics. Figaro refers to the Mozart opera, "The Marriage of Figaro" and it is a subtle way to reference Roger Taylor (Queen's drummer) who has a four-range vocal span (E2-E6) and was even frequently cited as hitting E5 in live performances while playing the drums. Freddie compared Roger's voice to a dog whistle. The final reference of Magnifico is Queen's bass guitarist, John Deacon, who has a degree in Electrical Engineering. John is the creator of the "Deacy Amp" which when connected to Brian May's homemade guitar (the Red Special) through a treble-booster could produce sounds reminiscent of various orchestral instruments, such as violin, cello, trombone, clarinet, or even vocals. It is hard to realize that it is only Freddie, Brian, and Roger singing in the "Operatic" section (John never sang on the records). This was 1975, well before digital recordings and autotune. Recordings were made using 24-track analog tape. The limits of tape made it necessary for the three vocalists to overdub themselves many times and "bounce" these down to successive sub-mixes. Some sections of Bohemian Rhapsody feature 180 separate overdubs! The fifth section is the "Hard Rock" portion. In this section, Freddie sings angry lyrics addressed to an unspecified "you", accusing them of betrayal and abuse and insisting "can't do this to me, baby", before the final lines conclude with him singing, "just gotta get right outta here". FYI - the "Operatic" and the "Hard Rock" sections of BoRap were featured in a scene in the 1992 film Wayne's World, in which the main character and his friends headbang in a car to the rock part. Because of the success of Wayne's World, Bohemian Rhapsody was re-released in the U.S. in 1992 and rose to Number 2 on the Billboard chart. In the sixth and final section, the "Outro" returns back to the "Ballad" to close the circle of the song and ends with the sound of a Chinese gong. Welcome to the world of Queen.

Queen was one of the masters of "Rock Opera" ---A rock opera tells a coherent story and may be sung as separate characters in a drama. Similar to a classical opera. The changes in the music that you are referring to are transitions throughout the song which detail the story line or plot, similar to a movie...except it's being sung along with beautiful instruments. The intro, a ballad segment (that transitions into an operatic passage, which transitions into a hard rock part and a reflective coda in the outro. Truly a masterful song with a very deep meaning. I hope this is helpful, Great reaction🎶

This was very popular when it came out, but when it was featured in the Wayne's World movie it went wildly, cult following popular. Originally radio hated playing it because of it's length, rarely got played during prime hours(6:30am-7pm) because it cut into ad time. But after Wayne's World came out, all that went out the window. The movie, and later video release, exposed Queen to a couple of younger generations. So much so that there's very few people older than 30 that don't know, or know of, Bohemian Rhapsody. And if you and your friends don't blast it on the car stereo and sing along with all the parts? You need new friends. Freddie had a voice that put him in a bunch of folks top 5, and top 3 GOAT's. The guitarist is an astrophysicist that has worked for many space agencies including NASA. The drummer has one of the most recognizable backup vocals that have ever been recorded. The bassist also has more instantly recognized bass "hooks" than just about any other players. This is a deeeeep rabbit hole to dive in. Even the deeper cuts that didn't get airplay are amazing! I'm sure you'll enjoy the ride.

The most epic song ever! Freddie owned the stage! I was 15 when this came out and I was Freddie'd then and there and have been ever since! This video is legendary, it was made about 6 years before MTV was born, so they were very ahead of their time in making and marketing a music video. P. S. Freddie had 4 extra teeth, and he never had them removed because he didn't want anything to negatively affect his performance. The guitarist, Brian May, built that guitar with his father, using items around their house! In the movie 'Bohemian Rhapsody', comedian Mike Myers plays a studio executive who doesn't like the song and says you can't head-bang to it. Previously, Mike Myers played the lead in 'Wayne's World' where he & his friends were in a car & blasting BR on the radio. When it got to the rock part, they were head-banging! So that cameo in the movie BH was an inside joke about WW.

At one stage there you got the style of the song. They took a song about a gangsta who shot a man, got caught, apologising to his mother and was on death row begging fo his life and they turned it into AN OPERA or rather a RHAPSODY. You picked up on all the changes. This song is the definition of a rhapsody - A rhapsody in music is a one-movement work that is episodic yet integrated, free-flowing in structure, featuring a range of highly contrasted moods, colour, and tonality. An air of spontaneous inspiration and a sense of improvisation make it freer in form than a set of variation

Queen didn’t like to explain the lyrics to their songs and wanted the listener to be able to interpret them. Many people believe this song is about Freddie coming to terms with his sexuality and accepting who he truly was. When he says “I just killed a man” I believe he means that he killed the man he used to be, the straight man he’s been pretending to be. The man his parents wanted him to be. When he says “Mama didn’t mean to make you cry” because his family was religious and maybe he couldn’t be the son they wanted. “Goodbye everybody, I’ve got to go and leave you all behind and face the truth” In the middle section they sing “Bismillah will you let me go, no we will not let you go, let him go.” Bismillah is arabic for In the name of god. Then he says “So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye.” In his Zoroastrian religion, there was a time when people would be stoned to death and being gay would be a sin. The last lines “Nothing really matters, nothing really matters to me.” I believe is him giving permission to everyone to be their true self and love whoever they want because it doesn’t matter. “ Anyway the wind blows.” Listen to the lyrics again and see if you agree.

The meaning is elaborately discussed. But what I think it's about ... We all go through a process of mourning the death of a loved one. Denial, grief, anger, acceptance. But I think this is the process from the perspective of the killer. He know he did it, he gave up like nothing matters. Had a terrible childhood, doesn't want his mother to cry. He was angry, cuz life didn't give him a chance, but he accepted it eventually, cuz he knows he did it.

This video was made before music videos were a thing. I'm sure I've read that Queen was going to be on a British TV show, I think it was "Top of the Pops", and the tv producers wanted them to lip-synch to their studio recording. Instead, the band made this performance video, to be played on the show, instead of attending and 'pretending' to perform.

Well, when Freddy Mercury, Brian May, John Deacon and Roger Taylor decided to release an album called _Night at the Opera_ , you could definitely trust that, dammit, they were going to unleash an epic album that sounded like some kind of...ROCK OPERA.😁 They brought high class and expectations to the genre of rock 'n' roll: no half-efforts, no substitutions, they were gonna give you their all, 110%, and blow the roof off of the concert hall! Few could ever hope to imitate their style, and I doubt we will ever see their like again!

None of our groups. They were musicians and very creative. We never knew what we were going to get but we got one great song after another no matter the generas. I believe all songs had two messages. One the average person would hear and then one includes a personal experience which united with your own personal one but uniquely rode the ride in unison. Each song took us out of the world for three to ten minutes. The only way you can experience what we did was to listen. You will be changed by the music. Enjoy the journey. Each song you choose becomes your own road map like we have one as a generation as have passed it onto our millennial and beyond.

You gotta watch the movie about him/Queen > Bohemian Rhapsody- this song is his struggle accepting his being bi-sexual while also breaking it to his VERY RELIGIOUS family - him “killing a man” is a metaphor for the bi part killing the man his family/society etc. expect/want him to be - veeeeeery deep meaning

Freddie never said what this song, or any of his songs, was about. He wanted the listener to decide that. People just speculate what they think it’s about.

FYI watch the movie “Bohemian Rhapsody” to see how this song came about! Worth seeing the history. Well done.

The meaning to this song is complicated but the beginning of the song is him confessing to his mother that he committed murder the second part the Opera part represents the trial and him asking for his freedom which in the end of the song he is denied of and he's presumed guilty, the third part of the song represents his sentence as they consider him to be the son of the devil.

Check out them at live aid . It’s 20 mins and great. Also, check out their movie, bohemian rhapsody. It’s the story of queen , how they got started, Freddie getting aids, the band getting back together for live aid and Freddie’s death. It’s a great and touching movie.

One could infer that the lines speaking to his mama that knowing he had HIV, he had written metaphorically, "...put my gun against his head, pulled my trigger now he's dead." Also later in this rock opera, there are lines about, "...Too late. My time has come. Sent shivers down my spine. Body aching all the time. Goodbye everybody, Ive got to go. Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth."

I believe this was 1975 and this was one of the very first (if not THE first) music videos for promotion of an album (A Night at the Opera). I was young so my memory might be a bit foggy on the exact date.

Poor Roger, when the rest of the band members didn't bother singing backup vocals live, which are so important to these songs, he carried them all...while playing drums. And getting no credit.

Yeah, you're right on point that this is a metaphor or something. Good for you. The entire song might appear to be a mashup of several different songs, but they all string together to tell ONE story: starting with a questioning about whether thid us really happening, thru a painful confession to his mother, then seeing himself thru the eyes of others and seeing himself as foolish and weak. ( By the way the term rope fandango used to be a reference to the dance at the end of a rope.) Then dealing with persons with power over him; finally deciding to go his own way. All of this could be seen as Freddy deciding to out himself and dealing with the abuse he would have to endure. That would be the metaphor . 11:15 11:15 11:15 11:15 11:15 11:15 ons with power over him
