My real question is for Natsume, does an E+10 game rating ACTUALLY sell more copies than a T for Teen? I'm genuinely interested, because that seems like such a nothing burger move to make for a lower rating on a game that already looks like its acessable to everyone lol. Really not a fan of censorship, skipped Dragon Quest 8 3DS for the same reason, and in this day and age it just seems like an archaic practice. Game still looks fantastic though

I think that part could been have aged it up to T foe Teen Rating if it's not been censored, but I think the developers wanted to release it as E+10. Mythra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 did lose a lot of skin exposure & even Camilla from Fire Emblem Fates as a Spirit had her hair covered her top as well in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate when Sakurai wanted to keep the game as CERO A along with Corrin, Palutena (Japan-only through patch only while US was unaltered), and even Bayonetta had modified clothes to not show exposed skins in the previous game and kept in Ultimate. It could have been the Rating Boards that Pocky & Rocky Reshrined that almost slapped this game as a T for Teen Rating due to it was just one character with exposed skin.

I LOVED the game when I was a kid. It was probably my favorite game. I think my brother eventually got so sick of me wanting to play this game over and over again. But as a kid I was so bad. Like we wouldnt be able to reach the end of the game because we werent allowed to play for more than a hour a day. Good luck finishing the game when you have to start all over again. I imported the game because it does have English options. Much to my surprise the English dialogue uses the NA localized names of both Pocky and Rocky. Also referring to Rocky as a raccoon and not a tanuki. As for the censorship I think it was needless here but as of late there are those who seem to be offended by the female form. Even why women would tend to look androgynous in more recent cartoons. The Japanese rating is Cero B which makes the game okay for children 12 and up. The NA release get a rating of E10. Meanwhile a game like Skullgirls, which was full of fetishes before its update removed them was rated T for partial nudity. Partial nudity but ignoring the obvious fetishes? Something's going on here. But it does seem like they must have noticed something because Cotton Fantasy didn't seem to get censorship.

The Japanese version received a CERO rating of B which is for ages 12 and up. I'm guessing this makes it close to a T rating in the US and that led to trying to find some odd middle ground with localization. However I do think the fan service in the Japanese version is mild compared to the Shantae series, which have all been T rated except for the first game and sell well.

It is quite absurd that in this day and age something as innocent as cleavage ( and a normal , non-exaggerated one at that)is felt to need censoring by anyone. I think it insulting to women that a part of their normal anatomy should be deemed inappropriate while guys parading in speedos wouldn’t likely ever affect an age rating for a game. Then again, there are many in the world, and certainly also here in the States,who feel women shouldn’t have a say in what they do with their bodies or how they should dress so this isn’t neither new nor surprising. I prefer a "censored" version of a game than not getting it at all localiced. On the other hand... why are ppl always so overblown hatefull if a game has less naked skin showing? How old are these ppl and don't they have other means to look at noodes? This "more clothed" censorship is goin on for ages, Square has done it in most Final Fantasy games, Konami in Castlevania games. Just look up some lists on the internet to see how this has never impackted the gameplay and fun. I disagree that if you feel you have to censor something to release a game in a region you just shouldn't release it. As you said, it doesn't change the gameplay or anything. For you and me, it may be no big deal, we'd just import the game. But I imagine 12 year old me ... And for 12 year old me it would be the difference between knowing the game or not. Where I live back in the day lots of games were censored for violence by publishers to be able to sell to kids. Without censorship, I would not have known Contra (never mind that in that specific case I think the Probotectors are an actual upgrade in style to the lame soldiers of Contra). And even as a teenager... Sure, I could import by then. But realistically would I have payed premium to be able to try Silent Hill 1? Chances are most wouldn't have. I don't feel I missed out on a lot by first playing a version where the monster children in the elementary school were replaced by a new kind of monster with similar attacks. Sure, it wasn't the original idea but it worked. I'd pick a monster being replaced by a different one from not having played a great game at all any day. So overall, if publishers did have that attitude to either release without censorship or not at all would have been a loss for me. Or for you as a US gamer... Would it have been better to never play Ninja Gaiden and many other classic games because in the US having crosses and religious symbols was a problem? Doesn't mean it is ideal, but you have to think carefully how much no-censorship-absolutism really benefits you. I'd also argue that in many cases gamers probably take that stuff much more personal than developers. I am sure many take some pride in their work, but it is also a paid job and they design graphics according to what their director wants to begin with. These aren't neccessarily art projects that are super close to their heart personally, and there is a good chance the character designer doesn't mind covering up the boobs in a picture even if he finds it silly. Imo it has to be judged on a case by case base. Does it impact the game in a big way? Does it fundamentally change gameplay or a message the game originally had? Dying on the hill of never censoring anything doesn't seem like a good idea if the end result is fewer people getting to enjoy a game. A game they might have loved, that might have become their favorite and they would never have noticed... Never got to play it out of principle because a tiny piece of art was altered. Seems like a bad deal to me.

I think the idea of “if you have to censor something then don’t release it” is absolutely hilarious. If this was the case, several legendary titles wouldn’t have gotten released, Final Fantasy VI, Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, hell even Super Mario Kart. These titles had to get slightly censored for the North American release in order to abide by certain guidelines and obtain the proper rating for the game. And that’s basically what was done here, the cleavage was basically taken out here to most likely obtain a certain rating, if it was left in then the game might have gotten a Teen rating, where as Taito was wanting to shoot for an E or E+10 rating for the overall tone of the game. This was nothing about offensive content or greed, it was literally boiling down to compromising on a particular ESRB rating.

Such a strange change. Women dress like that all the time, and cleavage, while it can be seen as sexual in some circumstances, is also just a natural result of women's anatomy and in everyday life shouldn't really be seen as sexual(especially such a tame amount of cleavage as seen in this game). I had it pre-ordered because I know the original is so rare.... But the trophy list was absolutely horrible and the fact it's censored.... I cancelled my pre-order. I don't need this game honestly

I live in mexico and this physical game is nowhere to be found, nobody sells it, very limited production? Or whats going on? Play asia says they will have the US in stock again in one week. I really wanted the US version, but seriously this days the game doesnt even include a manual inside, when I am playing the game I am not looking at the box, and I cannot wait any longer to see if they will bring the game, so I will just import the japanese version. I wanted my games to be from one region, but now they are in all different regions. Wild guns I have american, ninja warriors I have the asian version, and now the pocky in japanese version, as long as the game is original and comes in n english, I dont mind. Some of my games dont even got an american realease like the dead os alive extreme 3, okami, onimusha, so anyway it was impossible to have all my games in american region.

amazon does not have it or stores near me had to cancel my amazon order because they werent going to send it. I got mine from gamestop its weird how kind of difficult it was to buy this one

I find this very silly and unnecessary. Just play a Shante game and it’s cleavage city! Yet they are excellent platform games and lots of fun in their own right.

ha, this is my kind of game.. I and who ever reads this can order it on Amazon , 25.50.. free shipping if you spend over 25.00 and this is it, well worth it , but i did not play this yet.. Im a 64 year old games with 6 systems, I had to use A HDMI 4 slitter, to play all my systems on one 32 inc TV.. . lol, I have the ps4 slim, PS3 slime , plays PS1 games.. A Xbox360 slim, A red wii addition plays NES GameCube Games, A Nintendo NES classic, Hacked to play 210 games.. A retro-bit, over 200 games.. plays from a sd card , but comes with 90 games.. and different controllers can be plug in it.. lol .. by the way , I'm a Fan of your channel ... for years...lol.. i remember you helped with the NES classic... I love your channel too.. and order it on Amazon...lol.. 25.50 free shipping.. No!!! ??? It is. They responded to someone about it on Twitter. They had no say in the censorship. They could only release the US version which was censored by Natsume. If you want an uncensored physical version, you have to import it.

I disagree with censorship but this is nothing new and had been well documented as regional differences.

Hmm that is weird because Nintendo said that they would not censor their games 🤔 I hope their not becoming like Sony for PS4 And PS5 and give into pressure from people in America Or Groups in America because I hate censored games thats why I buy most of mine from playasia or from Japanese and Asian eBay sellers from eBay instead.

This wasn't Nintendo! Most likely it was Natsume themselves or, since this is licensed by Taito, Square Enix! -_-

It really depends on the censorship. I really don't care about tatas at all in a game like this so it doesn't really bother me.
