Everyone in the comments is saying how dumb and boring league is. I watch a Real Madrid vs. Barcelona game and I fall asleep, seriously. Same with union, It so bloody slow at least football/soccer is fast. And i like afl a lot, but to me nothing keeps me on the edge of my seat more than a league game. I and all other league fans seriously don't care if it's not popular around most of the world, it just make's it more special to us. I would rather get paid $800 000 to play league than $80 000 000 to play football/soccer. The amount of skill under fatigue accompanied by the toughness not equaled by any other sport and the amount of emotion and love showed by the players for their team and jersey rather than dollar bills in their bank and making incredible moments that I just can't seem to find the same in other sports. Then x10 that in State of Origin or Finals matches... IT IS THE GREATEST SPORT ON EARTH *FULL STOP*

I wonder if rugby league was played in England as well as it is in Australia would it be more popular here. Its big time in Aus but very much on the fringes here. Don't follow it but am aware of the gulf in standard. My man gripe is the play the ball routine which causes the rapid fire stop start feel of the game (certainly in England anyway), but in Aus there seems to be less straight up running into a wall and more skills on show. Think I was in Aus I'd follow it there

From a union fan, league seems too simple, with not enough rules to keep things interesting. For instance after a tackle everything just stops during league. what is it that makes league so much more fun to watch and play?

The fact we have that netre free zone of play is what truly makes league such an exciting sport despite being under-rrcognized by the world. we only have five plays, and with each play we have ten meters to make something brilliant happen. thats why for two split seconds after a play starts, you sit and watch what athletes can produce in fatigue moments and low moments. Just dont compare union and league together, then youll see the athleticism and skills required to be a league player

For example I'm a newbie, I just started watching rugby, I'm from El Salvador(you probably never heard of that country before) there's a some things I like about Union and a few things about league if there was a sport that had all the good things would be awesome, plus if they don't unite league probably will disappear, I'm mean they can't even sell out the World Cup final. Survival of the fittest, if you can't beat them join them!

I don't know if I agree with you, yes, union is more famous, but for that should occure a lot of time, since the international federations are different and independent each other. Then there are lots of nations that are monsters in the league and not good in the union or vice versa (PNG, Cooks, Serbia, Norway, Samoa and Fiji).

+Marvin Geovani Clavel Or maybe more cross-code games like the Wigan v Bath experiment in the 1990s. Played a game of each, Wigan pissed the RL and came close in RU then won the Middlesex 7s RU comp too! It woud be great for development, publicity and unification to see more of that.

+Marvin Geovani Clavel no. That's not possible. Rugby union was invented first then Over 100 yrs down the track someone made rugby league. There can't be a cross over, it would be pointless. What they should do is legalise the shoulder charge and be less strict on sport violence. For Both codes.
