That was more of a redemption story as Hobie went to Kingpin to become more powerful and got trapped into working for him. I really like the episode but it made me think he was a villain turned hero.

@@stupendoushorrendous8258 Yeah, he hasn't been a villain since his very first appearance. He stays on the path of good from here on out. An on-and-off hero and friend to Spider-Man. A few issues later, he agreed to dress up as Spidey and do a swing-by, no questions asked (it was so that people would see Peter and "Spider-Man" at the same time and protect his identity).

The Prowler is an excellent example on how to do an "anti" version of a hero.

I believe it was young John Romita Jr. who designed the Prowler costume, which is why it might look like something a child designed. John Romita Sr. did some touch-ups to it, but I’m not sure to what extent.

I will personally always remember Hobbie as a member of one of the most underrated superhero group in comics, The Outlaws. Really wish we got to see more of him in both the comics and outside media. As much as I like Aaron Davis and Spider-Punk, I'd be eager to get a bit more OG Prowler.

In the credits, it says that the idea for the character was suggested by John Romita, Jr., I think the rest was done by Stan Lee, John Buscema and Jim Mooney did the art. John Buscema might have had some hand in creating and developing the character though, since he did the layouts. The art is really very good, John Buscema probably drew more than the basic outlines for it, but Jim Mooney's inking is very good too. The two part story arc about Hobby Brown/the Prowler, provided Stan Lee with an excellent opportunity to do another black superhero in comics. The costume's very good, being more workmanlike and less slick and more earthy than Spider-Man's, except for that awful, unnecessary cape. There isn't much contrast between his and Peter Parker's life, in that they both worry a lot, but Hobby doesn't realise how lucky he is just to be an ordinary person. It's an excellent story.

According to Romita, the Spectacular Spider-man title was cancelled after issue 2 but he had already designed the villain for issue 3. Later his son said it would be cool to have a villain called the Prowler. Then he commented it to Lee and he thought it was a good name so he came up with a story for the character while at the same time asked Romita to re use some unused design and so he used the unused spectacular issue 3 villain design and made some changes to it to fit the new story and that was it.

I've never read "Night of the Prowler," but I prefer Miles Morales' uncle as he appeared in the original Mile Morales series. Besides "Too Many Defenders" (where none of the characters look good), I think I've read two Prowler stories where a villain stole his costume and used it more effectively than he did and the prelude to The Clone Conspiracy, where he's killed by the new Electro. He comes across as an inept loser to me.

If you wanna do it, you should! It's fun. For me, getting my thoughts and emotions out of my head has helped me enjoy reading more. Ultimate Spider-Man, both of them, are some of my favorite Spider books. There's plenty to talk about with them and there'd be people interested in that.
