That final attack from Clone Frieren is terrifying. It's been established that normal magic is the translation of thought. But this attack was PURE thought, without going through mana. So it's instant, undetectable, and irresistible. As Fern said "the height of magic". Frieren said she hasn't used it in 80 years, which means that's probably the attack that she used to kill the Demon King. Fern was lucky to survive.

Or at the very least restrained the Demon King for Himmel to deliver the killing blow.

In the Manga, what that force is called is "The Apex of Magic" and there is much discussion in S2 about it. As far as anyone can tell, An Apex is a religious term, a pointer to the divine like Heaven, or God itself. Apparently the usage is a prayer to Divine forces, or perhaps even to God or the Goddess, for help in a desperate situation. The Apex is so serious it is not used often or flippantly, and some beings cannot visualize it. Frieren says she last used it 80 years ago which would seem to indicate the fight with the Demon King. The entire theory of the Apex is still being explored in the Manga.

Because the monster mimics thought of the clone as well it might be that Clone Frieren didn't want to kill her out right. I could be grasping at straws of course. 😅

I love how this episode uses Ubel as a proxy to explain how all of magic works in their world. Magic is bound by imagination only. If you think it can be done, really think so, then it can. This is why when Fern says "I think I can kill Ms. Frieren", Frieren smiles and then openly commits to helping Fern with a plan. She needed someone who really believed they could do it. Also, when you asked "Does Sense fear Ubel?" Go back and watch when all of the mages gather together for the first time. As Sense and another first class mage (I forget his name) are talking about the new applicants, the shot cuts to Ubel. Ubel sees Sense across the room and grins. And Sense flinches. A really tiny moment that goes over our heads when it happens, but man it gave me the chills on a rewatch. Great vid as always!

Props to the architects that 2 frieren can actually fighting in there. Now you witness how our Universe got created, with Frierens big bang. Small but cool funfact: The black hole is in actually science based color. i count 5 mimics dying in her natural habitat.

Ubel is so interesting! Her imagination is insane makes me think of a free imagination of children backed with a young adult's self confidence I also agree the ending of the last episode was confusing but i was happy we got more Frieren combat. Thanks for sharing and reacting!

All magic in that world is based on imagination. If you can clearly imagine and visualize it, magic can create it.

I'll always laugh at people thinking a single Fern attack would be able to defeat Frieren. The smoke/haze whatever at the start of the episode is from Ferns blast at the end of the previous one

Not sure I agree with Serie being "fearful" of magic being spread considering she's been characterized as being a battle fanatic and thus unable to kill the demon king/end the war against demon kind in past episodes. It's probably more like she doesn't want magic to spread to a select few, because when it does, it'd aid in end the war, and after that, the need for battle oriented mages will be reduced, which is implied as already happening when Frieren arrived at Äußerst, the City of Magic, and said there are significantly less mages compared to when they fought the demon king
