I'm doing an Aseria playthrough currently. Its honestly the best run I've done. When I joined the had lost 3 towns and 5 castles. But they don't constantly go to war, the leader is generous, the troop tree is good when you learn how to use them. By picking off weeker armies and castles and breaking in to any seige that is better odds than 4:1 with enemy advantage I've been able to secure all Aseria land and not a single village has been successfully raided. We went to war with Vlandia, they had 9,000 troops to our 4,000. They formed a 2,000 man army, took 2 castles and a town. But they overextended, their sieges left them at 1,300 men. I took back the town and turned around to fight a defensive siege with 300 men and won. We took back the lands they took in the initial invasion and then returned all other Aseria land. Now we are pushing into the southern empire, my former frontier settlement is now multiple days ride to the front lines.

@donkarnage6986 I am on hard. Just have a really high siege skill. Maxed out town, 4 catapults, bunch of master archers, and infantry with throwing weapons just make it hard for attacking armies to get enough men to the wall, and ones that breach the gate get an explosive murder hole suprise. The point is that I always overlooked the Aseria, but they are actually top teir. Something to be said for only having 2 entry points into the heartland, good troop, AI that doesn't constantly go to war, and when they do you've had enough time during peace to build up a strong high teir army and a load of cash.

I feel like Sturgia would do a lot better if they could operate like actual Vikings, though. For instance, if they had the ability to build up raiding fleets and attack Vlandia all along their coastline, then they would definitely devestate the Vlandians by spreading them out everywhere. I think that ships are definitely the next major development that Taleworld should add to the game. Having ships would give the Sturgians a fighting chance--especially if they recieved bonuses for naval combat and for battles on the beachhead--like Vikings in history.

This is a great tier list for sure, although ever since they added that scale shoulder armour to the Vlandian sergeant, its actually done a lot better in foot-combat. And now if you have realistic battle mod, the Vlandian troops demolish every other faction in non-auto resolved battles and sieges. I think it's safe to say that Vlandia has the strongest military in Calradia, unless the Empire was combined into one faction, like at the battle of Pendraic (Which most of the factions had to team together to beat them).

to me its western empire. Their imperial buceleraii and their imperial menavelion are the most versatile and the ai actually have alot of them. In big battle like 1000+men they have over 300 hundred of these unit combine and they easily win fights. Too bad their kingdom position is very weak and auto result/battle simulation for them is nerfed alot since patch 1.2 you would have to manually help them when you see them having a fight around the map.

In my current campaign, the southern empire was absolutely wrecked by the Aserai and Khuzaits. I sat and watched the Aserai siege their last city. They starved them out, never even assaulted the walls.

As someone who plays with sturgia I totally disagree. Most sturgia units are better than every other unit in the. Its not about straight up stats. Its about their weaponry. The druznicks totally trash every other cavalry units in the field, not sure about auto battle. Sturgia archers get 2 quivers of arrows. Thats a huge bonus. The only reason why sturgia struggles is because of the layout of the map. Their armies get spread out and outnumbered. Sturgia is actually S tier to anyone who knows how they work. Oh and southern empire is not S tier. No way possible.

Sturgian archers are outclassed by Aserai Imperial and Battanians they have bad armor good arrows and a mid bow, they’ve got great heavy infantry and shock infantry but the shock infantry are really their only punching power since their infantry skirmishers only go up to tier 3 and their horse skirmishers are also outclassed and as said their archers are probably the weakest pure archer in the game since crossbowman should really be counted as different units.

Not to be that battania defender, but as someone who used battainia as the first play through, caladog is arguably the best leader in the game, and I feel you have a heavy bias against battania.. from what I experienced, khuzait are the most OP, vlandia is the most fun play though especially if you have a little experience in the game, and battania is the best if you rlly know how to play. If you use battania, marry corein, use a little of vlandias cavalry and some imperial soldiers, imo that’s the most versatile and perfect mix of soldiers possible. If you’ve played a few play throughs, battania Is the best except the khuzaits

Got to be emperors of the southern empire (Planned to kill rhagea but she did that herself so I got to be emperor as I had probably the most prosperous and well developed cities) and we already eliminated all of the western empire and put the northern empire in sturgia, but ofc vlandia was OP but so were we and lageta and rhotae became hellholes, conquered at least once a month cuz wars kept happening, we made small gains in vlandia, they take it back and take our land and we take it back etc, just nonstop conflict and these wars had at least 10,000 deaths as they lasted for a long time but we southeners typically came out on top

Sturgia just needs a heavy infantry nobleman not this weird budget knight thing. Like the weather patch just nerfed them as well because their nobles are near useless in their own terrain. Give them a huscarl with a shield one handed axe and a two handed axe and bam you have a shock troop that can close in without dying to archers.

Hmm, interesting list. I do think parts of the list is inconsistent between how the ai performs for the faction and partly how good they are for players. Geography tends to be imo the biggest factor of how powerful a faction or how they would rank. Vlandia for sure has a lot going for it with it's positioning and troops, but battania I have always felt is a bit underrated. When I play as battania my first objective is always always wipe out the vlandians. With that done I'm better able to focus on one front, and with added riches from the conquered towns. Sturgia also can be quite good. The biggest thing is not to worry about losing ground on a couple fronts but focus one wiping one faction out at a time. For me generally it's khuzaits, battania and then vlandia. Doesn't matter if I lost territory from a defeated faction to another faction as long as I'm wiping out another faction in the meantime. And it's also in a position to opportunistically take out the northern and western empire while they are fighting another empire faction, even if the southern empire takes those towns it's a faction gone.

Legionarys slaughter any of their troops as I have tested in the battle simulator, actually, the only troop I found that could beat them were the falxman in a 100v100 and I think the aserai guardsman game pretty close with only just shy of 20 left for the legion. Fians rip through absolutely anything and so do sharpshooters that don't have a shield. So, the empire boasts pretty much the strongest infantry in the game and the strongest cav although banner knights and vanguard Faris can give them a run for their money as well as viable mid tier archers.

@@alex2005z the only way Sturgia or any infantry beats them is to mix in shock troops for some reason although the shock troops alone still can't beat them except falxman which actually were the only infantry to beat them in a 100v100. A line of Legionarys with some shock troops in the back will beat literally anything regardless in a melee. Fian Champs are the only unit to just obliterate anything with no arguments for other units except the khans guard being more versatile with their ability to just kite and win vastly outnumbered battles. I do enjoy how each type of unit doesn't have a clear cut winner because they all have their own strengths or advantages in vertain situations or tactics except of course Fian Champs or Khans guard

Summer 2024 on ps4, vlandia gets anihilated by game year 1086. Sturgia very close behind and western enpire also very close runner up for second to be wiped out. Ive played over about 10 separate new game starts and its consistent.

You underestimate Aserai archers and infantry. Their shield infantry is better than Imperial Legionary against a normal army (so not a fully tier 5 army but mixed). Their archers are also fantastic

I was just traumatized by Battania. The Battanian kings (whatever his name is) army seems to run a decent amount of higher tier infantry units. Because Im in a Vlandian army, about 700 strong, its relatively early game but Ive haven't been wiped the wh ole playthrough yet so my 140 man is pretty high leveled. Almost half cavalry and most of that is higher ranked heavy cavalry. The Battanians have like 560 men so theyre outnumbered by almost 150. But they come right at us. Open field daylight battle. We have about twice as much cavalry, same amount of infantry, same amount if archers, like 50 a side. Yet theur infantry just really kills ours. Long battle, like 15 minutes, but they have the edge the whole time and win. I dont save scum but I reloaded just to try different ways to fight the battle. If I auto it we win handily but I try a bunch of strategies in the battle but I lose every time. Their infantry is just hella strong with a ton of HP. Its all those big ass shields and then right behind them those guys with two handed polearms that look like a scythe on the end. They hit like trucks. One hit on you does almost half damage meanwhile I have to hit them like 5+ times to kill.

Aserai troops are pretty underrated. Their veteran infantry only loses to legionaries and beats all other tier 5 infantry in equal number. They also perform the best against higher number of low tier troops out of all tier 5 inf + they have javelins. Their archers are tied for second best with imperial archers behind fians. Strat gaming did a great video comparing all tier 5 inf a while ago. Unit composition wise I would rank the highest ranking factions: empire>aserai>vlandia. Idk about khuzait since I never played them much. Vlandia is a bit overrated troops wise imo. Sharpshooters are not that great, low dps and low ammo capacity. Their infantry is surprisingly decent but not top tier, and their banner knights are good but not as good as cataphracts.

Sharpshooters are easily better than any other archer except fians and in a 100v100, I came up with very mixed results on a head to head but sharpshooters are definitely as good as fians firing down on infantry. Banner knights are tied with cataphracts VS infantry and only because banner knights are a little more squishy and struggle against vanguard faris( mind you I mean I might lose a chunk VS them but they still win). I haven't tested sargents but they seem to do ok for me but I prefer other troops. Aserai just has a ok of every unit. Infantry loses out to Empire, Sturgia and its a toss VS Vlandia, cav loses out to empire and vlandia and the Khuzait khans guard, archers lose out to fians, sharpshooters, palatine guard and its a toss up VS khuzait mounted archers or their marksman are basically palatine guard level. So, you end up with a faction inarguablly only maybe ranked 3rd at most in every unit type where as empire boasts the best infantry and possibly cav. The Khuzait boasts the best mounted archer and technicaly dismounted shock troop. The Sturgians boasts heavy Aleman which give legionarys a run and people argue if their better. Vlandia boasts the best crossbowman which rival fians in their potency whether with the bow or in melee and arguably the best cav( mind you I have run several battles where banner knights win against cataphracts). Battania boasts by far the best unit in the game which absolutely decimates every single other unit and I need not say it, the fians crush anything by far its sad and they are even very strong in melee. You are left with a mediocre faction with a decent at everything but good at nothing which if you are playing solely as a factions troops, it is a good all around choice but they have no strengths but not being terrible at nothing

That is my opinion based off of play time and battle tests in the battle simulator things. BTW, aserai still only rank like 3rd in shock troops as well. They did get legionarys down to like 18 troops in a 100v100 but they still lost against menavlitons, falxman and line breakers. The falxman were the only unit that won against the legion in a 100v100 but any them make a good shock troop in my opinion but I notice falxman and line breakers are a terror in any battle but menavlitons will beat them all in 100v100 but not against legionarys, it was some weird results. I personally prefer falxman

So if I was playing solely as a factions troops and not just mixed up the best troops from each faction. I would choose empire> Vlandia> Battania> Khuzait> Sturgia> Aserai. That is just based off of how easy it is to dominate the Ai with better cav or without just spamming fian champions. I also like a strong front line of infantry with a army of maybe 50% infantry, 10% shock troops, 20% archers and 20% cav and I might throw in more cav or archers and dwindle down to a small infantry line. By all means I could just spam banner knights, spam all cataphracts, khuzait khans guard, fians or any of the top tier unit troops individually and have no problem conquering the whole map but that is boring.

Im not too sure about ranged or infantry because im a mild cavalry enjoyer but this is how cavalry goes: Imperial elite cataphracts for the health and being overall tanks whilst vlandian banner knights for damage and for ranged cavalry khans guards no debate

That’s not a simple question as there’s sub categories to all those units you named but best archer is fian champions best heavy infantry is between legionary and sturgian spearman best shock infantry is a toss up but heroic line breakers and imperial elite mentalvions are probably the best two then best skirmisher infantry are wildings (lake rat wreckers are great if you can get ahold of em) then best horse archers are khans guard then best javelin cav are the aesrai vanguard faris and then best heavy cav is a matter of preference cataphracts, banner knights and even druznik all have their strengths and weaknesses

seargent crossbowman and sharpshooters are a mix of infantry and archer and out of the two i prefer seargent crossbowman since they have a mace but sharpshooters have a huge shield so there’s an argument for both

But honestly use you all of em they all mostly can fill a niche and it’s about how you use the unit rather than just a this is better than this kind of thing use what you like best and then figure out how to make them successful

I think that Battania and Sturgia's respective tiers tells a lot of the story of why Vlandia is a really strong faction. If/when Vlandia has a successful campaign or two against their main neighbor (Battania), it opens up the lands of poor Sturgia to conquest, and even those of Northern Empire if they're doing really well. Simply put, the Southern path to expansion is kinda contested (and generally where you'll see Vlandia lose land temporarily, with W.E. and them exchanging their borders territories until one fully dominates), but their northern path has two weak factions, so they are likely to make great gains and not lose any lands when facing them.

it one shots everyone, has amazing range so you can easily use it on horseback plus on the ground without even getting close to your enemy plus swing very fast for a long weapon. (key word for a long weapon, obvi a single handed sword swings faster)

I honestly can't stand Vlandia, I always struggle against them and as a Englishman thier lack of longbows and ugly armours just marks them down in my book, that said thier crossbows and cav spam are quality. I don't know about others but I tend to hunt down the brotherhood minor factions for thir archers if I do a vlandian campaign lol

Battania is the faction that represents Englishmen/Celtic peoples, not Vlandia. Vlandia represents Western Europe; modern day Germany, France, Belgium, etc. They are heavily inspired by the Normans, Vandals, and Goths.

@@Nykolara Yh it's my own bias coming into play there lol, Battania is my favourite faction but I don't like using fians that much and as Vlandia is the 2nd most familliar culture to mine it sucks they don't have a longbow unit, however that's something I love about bannerlord as it inspires me to learn about the inspirations behind the other factions. I haven't heard of Goths though so thank you i'll look them up

The khuzait and aserai dont feel unique. They both have the same horse archer shtick instead I think the aserai should use chariots to make them more unqiue and the egyptians used war chariots while the steppe people were master horse archers so it would make sense. I saw someone do a battania only playthrough and then they proceeded to do horse archery the whole game like bro you literally just did a khuzait playthrough dressed as a battanian smh the battanian lords dont use horses so no that was not a battanian only playthru lmao I hope someday we get some uniqueness to the different empires as well, maybe relevent to their real world counterparts like rome and constantinople, not sure what northern empire would be though.

U do realize Byzantine empire which is the base for the Calradians in the game wasnt the turks right ? If anything the Khuzaits and Asserai mixed up should be the Turks not the Imperials so you got your feeling mixed up. Not to mention Vlandia/Aserai and may be Khuzaits ussually beat down on the imperials so idk why you believe the devs had favourites. Khuzait was for the most part the strongest faction to fight for with their broken spam of cav and HA and the insane amount of armor their units had for a faction that was supposed to be hiting hard and fast "raider" style so if anything the devs were favouring them way more than any other culture.

The best factions are the ones you create. I went around the map and slowly replaced kingdoms with ones from history. I have the Samnites, Lucanians, Romans, and umbrians. All with family’s I created by giving companions a fief. I create a nation, abdicate and repeat. It’s superior. You pic their colors and culture. Fuck Garios.
