I see a potential issue as this: Right now, Wells has no Hotel partners other than Choice. If someone is a low-frequency flyer, and mainly wants to use their points at hotels, you are very limited in how you use them. Unless you KNOW you're going to be happy with Choice, the only choice (pun intended!) is cashing the points out. Hopefully soon Wells will add Hilton or IHG, etc.

I see what you're saying, but imagine if Capital One offered the same card, more partners for sure, but also very limiting with the hotel programs. If Capital One offered this card, everyone would jump on this card and call it the best travel card ever! I think the main reason the Autograph Journey isn't getting a ton of love is because it is with Wells Fargo.

@@jpknowledge8852 even if the same card was issued by capital one, I don’t think it would be a good fit for me personally. I very rarely pay for hotels with cash, so I wouldn’t be earning the 5X often anyhow. But I know that’s a highly situational thing dependent on the individual, so certainly, for others it could be amazing! For you, I think it probably would be a good fit, you can use it for paying for your hotels, where it’s hard to get more than $.02-$.03 per point in value, But then you’re off jet setting somewhere in business class on the regular, where you can easily get $.06-$.10 per point in value. I say go for it!

It probably isn't for everyone in the points and miles game. At some point, I will get it. I don't spend a ton at hotels, but a few meals at a hotel restaurant and a few paid nights for weddings or whatever reason adds up over the course of a year. I love my hotel points, but not more than transferable currencies.

As someone not loyal to any hotel I see choice as a good option as realistically I’m not going to be in a hotel room 98% of a trip so all I need is a bed and to feel safe but that’s just me never had a problem with choice so far

Seems like this card would be a good fit for you.

As soon as I saw this card earned 5x on hotels I was excited. When Wells Fargo adds more transfer partners I'll make the decision if I should apply

Amex hands cards out like candy for current card holders, the same can’t be said for most other banks. I have 10 Amex cards while steaming ahead with apps, yes spaced out apps are ideal but not everyone does this. Solid WF card but they don’t like credit seekers, my Amex cards give the same solid travel rewards so I won’t bother with it.

If Hyatt is not there the value isn't there. That's the only hotel transfer partner that will net you a good value. I earn more Hyatt points from the UR cards than the actual Hyatt card. Plenty of stays in suites for free.
@jpknowledge88525 ай бұрын
I can agree that Hyatt is the best hotel transfer partner in the game, but Hyatt points aren't more valuable than airline miles. I am a complete Hyatt fanboy, but you will rarely get better value from s Hyatt stay as compared to a business class flight on Airfrance. This is why I say Wells points are better than Hyatt points

The category multipliers for direct hotel and airline purchases are awesome! Sadly, the limited transfer options water down the strengths of the card. It's like being rich in the currency of a country that doesn't exist anymore...

😂 Yes, Wells points aren't as valuable as other programs with transferable currencies, but they still offer some of the top partners, so if I had to choose between Wells points and hotel points I would take Wells points every time

I think it’s a good take on it! I don’t value wells points at all at this point but for someone who does, it makes sense. Autograph Journey is great for that 5x hotels.

I don't think Wells points are more valuable than the other transferable currencies like Chase or Amex, but they are still a transferable currencies, which makes them more valuable than any hotel point.

Could the extra free night cert and 6 elite night credits after $15K spend with the WoH card make up the 1X earning difference compared to the Autograph Journey?
@jpknowledge88526 ай бұрын
It is hard to say what elite nights are worth compared to points. The way I think of it is, even if it comes up to being an equal number, one of the points is transferable, and the other is fixed to one hotel program. As much as I love hyatt, I can't value their points higher than any transferable currency.

@jpknowledge8852 Maybe but in the current state, Autograph Journey is a snoozer. Prefer BILT card

I have the Autograph Journey. I'm also a fan of Hyatt. The 5X on hotels is effectively 10X when transferred to Choice Privileges. Choice Privileges points can be transferred to Preferred Hotels. Additionally, Choice has bookable hotels in Scandinavia. Also, a separate series of hotels should be bookable in France by next year through Choice. Without considering airline partners, I am confident that this one hotel partner will be rewarding. Overall, this may not be as rewarding a Hyatt points, but good value can be picked up with the Autograph Journey card.
@jpknowledge88526 ай бұрын
Just the fact that you earn more points and have the option of where you wish to transfer the points to is why the Autograph Journey is a beast of a card

Jury still out on Autograph Journey until they step up on their transfer partners to compete with Chase and Amex
@jpknowledge88526 ай бұрын
You're right. They currently don't compete with Amex and Chase when it comes to transfer partners. But they are a transferable currency, which makes them more valuable than any hotel point.
@harkinsdavid6 ай бұрын
I can't really justify getting the journey over the regular Autograph. By most of my calculations, you'd have to spend over $2,500 a year in hotels and airfare to make up for the remaining $45 of the annual fee after the airline credit. That's because airlines get only 1% more, and hotels only get 2% more than the no annual fee Autograph. If you're a thrifty traveler, that could be four trips.
@jpknowledge88526 ай бұрын
Fair points. Your math makes a lot of sense. A may have to do a comparison video of the two cards in the future.
@blakinsideandout4 ай бұрын
I really wish content creators would stop this. If we're only talking HOTEL spending, not a single transferrable currency beats a cobranded card. Transferrable points are only "more valuable" because they can be used more places like for flights. With his example of $10K spend on Hilton, using the Aspire you would get 140K points for using the card PLUS 200K points for having diamond status. If you did the same with platinum card, you could either get 50K MR points which equals 100K Hilton points OR 10K MR points and 180K Hilton points from gold status. So a MAXIMUM of 200K points vs 340K. Math is simple
@jpknowledge88524 ай бұрын
I'm comparing hotel cards to the autograph journey. Transferable currencies are more valuable and more versatile. I said in the video that the Aspire card is possibly the only one that makes sense over the autograph journey card. If you have status, you can use any card and still get a higher return on spend regardless of which card you use to pay for the hotel stay.
