Air Canada has "devalued" with the new $39 "Partner booking fee" on United flights. Avianca Lifemiles charges the same miles but without the partner fee. Alaska charges a $7.50 booking fee on American, but for fewer miles, so AS-AA is still worth it.

Booking United on anything other than United continues to get worse fast
@jpknowledge8852Ай бұрын
Yeah that is annoying. The domestic carriers are really trying to stop us from redeeming partner miles on their flights.

@@jpknowledge8852not stop, but they wan to make (more) money off “hacks”.

@@jpknowledge8852correction... United is stopping us. 😂👎. Even AA being anti portal.

Great insights on the devaluations of Domestic carriers. My international friends wish they could get the points we do. On the flip side, those countries also limit processing fees to very minimal levels.

We are very fortunate here in America when it comes to points and miles 🇺🇲💳
@chadpennycuffАй бұрын
@@jpknowledge8852 Fortunate? I don't know about that because we ultimately pay for it at higher prices. The points and miles help us recover some of those increased processing fees. I'm not sure we wouldn't all be better off with the reasonable processing fees found in the EU.
@jpknowledge8852Ай бұрын
@chadpennycuff I see what you're saying. But in terms of points earnings, we can easily earn 5x more points/miles compared to those people in the EU which is a benefit that most Americans have but don't realize they can take advantage of.
@newagain9964Ай бұрын
@@chadpennycuffagreed. Higher prices at the till are negative net value. Not positive. Worse. We have cash discount prices. I can’t stand dealing with nasty cash.

Would you speculatively transfer Amex points to Hawaiian and then transfer them to Alaska? I'm thinking of doing it but can't decide
@jpknowledge8852Ай бұрын
@JacobsPointsAndProfit I did. Alaska is probably the second strongest One World partner, with AA being number 1. Since AA doesn't have an ability to transfer over to, taking advantage of this backdoor transfer to Alaska could make a lot of sense if you like flying on One World partners.

Insightful point about the US carriers, definitely think their revenue breakdown looks different from foreign carriers.

Individual program devaluations can get pretty bad (Virgin moving to dynamic pricing in 1 month) but with transferable currencies, the only devaluation from a cashback perspective is inflation. So transferable currencies have no fear of devaluation compared to airline and hotel programs.
@jpknowledge8852Ай бұрын
I made this video before the most recent announcement of the virgin atlantic changes. I'm really hoping it isn't too bad, or else I will be eating my words 😅 😬
@JupiterfunkАй бұрын
This virgin devaluation I feel is going to kill their program in a really bad way. Pete needs to start doing something to regulate these airlines and their constant devaluations to screw you out of real value.
@newagain9964Ай бұрын
Not just pricing. But Virgin devalued pts across its programs recently.

I’ll keep saying it, until a major recession hits (maybe even globally?) get used to devals consistently showing up. 🤷♂️
