In this video, I try out the best Overqwil team in competitive VGC history! Australian legend Henry Rich was one of 3 players who brought Overqwil to the 2024 North American International Championships, where he piloted it to a top 8 finish out of over 900 players. Overqwil can outspeed the entire format when the Rain is set up and can lower opposing Pokemon's special defenses through Acid Spray, making it the perfect partner for Kyogre. It can also deal massive amounts of damage with attacks like Gunk Shot and Crunch and threaten common Pokemon like Calyrex Shadow Rider.

QOTD: Definitely Brute Bonnet. It’s really bulky, has redirection and spore. The reason you would use it over amoonguss is because of its type, for example Sucker punch into caly s. Also it’s fun to pair it with groudon to get the boost in its bulk to become even more tanky.

Funny enough, I had recently been working on a rain team with Overqwil because I thought it had hidden potential since it gets a boost from swift swim and can deal significant damage to a lot of meta picks (Incinaroar, Calyrex-s, rillaboom, ogerpon, etc.). My build used Sword dance though, which was my mistake. Using a turn to boost was a bad idea in doubles. Life orb definitely makes more sense. Alolan Muk is my main sleeper pick though, it inspired my choice for Overqwil when I was making my team. Thanks for the vid! I'll probably incorporate some of the strats into my Overqwil team.

Rage powder volcarona, and Overqwill, though I try wide lense on overqwill to increase the accuracy and it works pretty well, but of course the damage is reduced without life orb.

Sleeper pick: Tera Fairy Lightening Rod Rhyperior with curse. Really strong anti-Calyrex-I Mon and Miraidon and Raging Bolt usually can't hit it all

I know I'm late and it's only anecdotal evidence that makes me love and hate this team, but man, I missed 7 Gunk shots in a row and only hit the eighth. Made me, who I work in HR for fundamental labour law questions, dig out my old knowledge on binomial distribution (I hope these words are correct, never used the English terms) and calculate the chances of that happening. Made me accept it more and was actually fun to calculate. Also even without calculations I deduced that I'm not a great pokemon player haha but it's a lot of fun.

Is Barb Barrage (Base 60 but 100% accurate and 50% poison chance with 2x damage on status) or Poison Jab (Base 80 but 100% accurate at 30% poison change) that much worse than Gunk Shot (base 120 but 20% accurate)? You're already running life orb so its not like you're hard up for damage - or are things that would be surviving either of those that you need to run Gunk Shot for?
