I have the RE-201. Really nice and I love it when the tapes get old. I should probably service it but I love it when it gets all wonky. In pedal form Strymon Volante is checking all the boxes. Sure, it is digital but man, I just don't care. More than a delay. A sound on sound looper. A switch to make the looped stuff go half speed and two knobs to control wear and tear, so to speak. I just love it. A real mojo machine!

@@andersolofsson873 An RE-201 has been on my bucket list of gear since I was 14, I don’t think I’ll ever get to own one as the prices just keep going up but man, what an incredible thing. I absolutely love electromechanical stuff that messes with sound, the 201 was my first exposure to that. Really glad you’re enjoying yours man! And totally agree on the wonkiness, that’s where the fun is! The volante is an amazing thing too, more based on the Binson though I thought?

​@@NevermoreAudio Never give up on your dreams man! Always be on the lookout. You might find one in need of some service for cheap. Then buy spare parts yourself and try and find someone with some know how. I was somewhat amazed to learn that older gentlemen working with electronic repairs such as old tv's and radios often had some experience dealing with musical equipments. To my knowledge the 3 modes on the Volante are based on Echorec (drum), Echoplex and Space Echo (tape) and a Reel-To-Reel (studio). I wouldn't say that the tape mode sounds close to my RE-201 but it is still extremely charming and pleasing to my ears. I always recommend the Volante to people that want that old time charm. Easy to integrate in a modern setup, midi over din and usb and it has some under the hood features like panning the heads, settings for reverb decay and more. The latest Nixie update now supports Volante so it is really easy to go on a deep dive and save your presets. I know I must sound like a spokesperson for Strymon but really I just think they make cool products. :)
