Easily one of the best delays I've ever heard. If I had the money, I'd honestly have that on my main board if they prove to be reliable.

Thank you for the demo, really showing off what it can do. This is definitely a unique pedal - nothing out there like it. Authentic tape sounds ('cause it's actual tape). Also, very well thought out features - tap tempo, chorus, two heads, saturation, etc., and they made as easy as possible to maintain. The main downsides are the large footprint on your pedalboard and the high price tag. I think it's very useful in the studio and at home for generating ideas. For live, I would have to be totally committed to building my sound around this pedal, as I would only have room for two other pedals with my rig and small stages.

Lawrence Gillespie ? Authentic tape sounds compared to what? A cassette tape deck with vari-speed?
@shanelandstrom15976 жыл бұрын
The two heads is more of a nessecity than a "feature", but very nice. I wonder how the saturation works, if its actual tape sat or overdriving the circuit

t-rex will be releasing a proper binson echorec reissue as they now own the name and after seeing the prototype and the great job the did on this I'm excited for it's release. it will be out around late summer early fall and be about $999.99 usd

I played a Roland space echo for years and am here to tell y'all the place for the running tape is next to you in a rack or on top of your amp. NOT NOT NOT in the line of beer spillage and stomp overage on the floor of your local saloon. Tape transports are fragile Inc this one. Pretty cool trip to yesterday tho GMD.

This thing is awesome but 899 is more that I want to spend on something like this. That boom chucka rhythm though sounded flippin great.

But does it have that tape snapback that you can hear if you turn the delay time down while there is still a sound feeding back?

Blah, lofi cassette tape delay. Trex marketing hype made everyone think this was supposed to sound like a classic tape echo(echoplex, space echo, copycat). You can get very close to the same tones with a used tape cassette deck with a line in and variable speed, albeit sans tap tempo. How many blank cassette tapes can you buy with $30? It's kinda snarky that they made a proprietary cartridge. Listen to a classic tape echo like the echoplex or a new fulltone ss tape echo. Major difference in fidelity. To me that's what you're paying for. What do you guys think about this? Trex shouldn't have touted this without mentioning the difference in fidelity to what we are all used to. What do you guys think?

Man you sure have it in for this pedal. Is it overpriced, compared to a Fulltone SSTE? Absolutely. Is it as hifi as a Fulltone or a well-calibrated Space Echo or Echoplex? No. But the fact of the matter is that it is an electro-magnetic echo unit, that has way more in common with the aforementioned units than any bucket brigade or digital devices. You seem so completely hung up on the tape size that you overlook this basic fact. 16mm film is half as big as 35mm, but you don't have people going around saying that it's not really film. And I don't see how TRex is pulling the wool over anyone's eyes: they market it as a compact, cassette-driven tape echo, which is what it is. When I sent them a question they even completely disavowed any comparison to an Echoplex. If you simply don't like the sound of it, or think it's deficient in any mechanical properties, that's another matter, but to continually troll them as somehow betraying the nature of tape echoes is pretty off the mark.

George O'Donoghue verbatim from their marketing demos, "now you can get that classic tape echo in a pedal." That infers a customer will get the sound they have heard from all their classic rock albums. I do not consider a cassette tape delay to have a classic sound, nor do I know of anyone well known using one on a classic album. There in lies the dubiousness. Comparing film and audio is apples and oranges. There is a youtuber that made a demo of the replicator. He feels had because he was thinking he would get that "classic" tape delay from this pedal.

Strymon & Catlanbread echorec sound better without lo-fi tape.
@skatterpro8 жыл бұрын
"Sound better" is subjective. Almost every pedal, delay or not, sound just a bit different than their counterparts. Strymon and Catalinbred undoubtedly make superb pedals, but hearing this in person will probably bring out the subtle differences. It's just spiced differently, I guess. I don't know which I'd prefer because I've never A/B'd them, and that's just a matter of preference. That's a lot of money for some spices though.

1965fatbob finally someone else that gets it! This is marketing hype at it's greatest. They put tap tempo on a vari-speed cassette tape deck and nearly everyone thinks they hear classic tape echo sound. 1/8 inch cassette tape can never sound anywhere near 1/4 inch mastering tape as found in all the classic tape echo chambers. It goes to show, people will convince themselves anything if the marketing is done right. If you got a cassette tape deck that accepts a line in signal with varispeed, all your missing it on is the tap tempo. I'm sure you can still find plenty of blank cassette tapes out there. Will you be able to find these proprietary cartridges in 30 years? Doubt it!
@arensel848 жыл бұрын
GurktheBrutal you do know those pedals are emulating a 1/4 inch tape echo right? You can't make a 4cyl sound like a V8. Only the gullible could be convinced that this cassette tape delay sounds like "authentic tape delay."
