But Thomas, i used to load up on carbs post workout when i was bulking, typically these carbs werent the cleanest and often it was fast food, but if what you say is true, then why is it that i gained so much fat when i was bulking? I gained about 50 lb of fat easily (among muscle growth) and i went up to 32% bodyfat level :/. Why cant i get away with it? Is it maybe that i was eating too many calories?

Funny story: I run marathons and ultras and train with a group of people who take their gear pretty $eriously. They taught me to carry GU packets (ketchup sized packets of pure glucose) in a fanny pack- especially if there are a lot of hills or heat. Anyhow, Luke's Locker had a famous old runner come give a little talk/QA and he was asked which glucose he used (if at all) and he said that he just buys A LOT OF Easter candy the day after Easter (on sale) and same with Halloween candy....mini Snickers, jelly beans because they don't melt, Pixie Stix, etc. Neighbors give him their leftover/unwanted candy too. Pretty clever even though he didn't do much for the gear shop and selling their expensive glucose. Ha!! Dean Karnazes uses Pasteli (honey+sesame seeds) on super long runs, but he had bananas when I ran with him for a bit in Dallas.

Here's what I do: WALK after meals, and maybe walk faster after carb meals lol. I eat carb meals pre- resistance training (RT) workout and on those days in the evenings (3 × RT a week means 6 carb meals a week on average). Low carb rest of the week and post-workout meal. Another option, because I do "micro workouts" on off-days (just short circuits throughout the day), is to do one of those after carbs, for example just get a pump and blood flow doing a few sets of BW Squats, Light DB rows, and resistance band chest presses.
@bikeman7982
@bikeman7982 2 жыл бұрын
I arrived at the same strategy. Carbs at lunch would spike my blood glucose, nothing really alarming but I would like to keep it down. So I eat a ketoish lunch and consume my carbs just before an evening bike ride and at the post ride dinner. Result: blood sugars are very stable throughout the day!

Thank you for making this video. I was a little lost at the beginning but then it all made sense. I am on low carb at the moment, so in the morning i go for a brisk 1 hr walk and then have egg with veggies some days and others alternate with millet/oats with fruits and few nuts. In the evening i alternate weights and stretching... i tend to eat fish for dinner after weights... and when stretching... i go for yoghurt and fruits with very few nuts. I am still trying to find something that works for me but i have to be kind and patient with myself giving it some time to see results. I realize no one size glove fits all and men and women are different. I really appreciate your content. Thank you!

Take it from me...if you are running 7-8 miles a day and lifting heavy weights for an hour immediately after...you absolutely need carbs. I did keto for 4 years and once I started elevating my daily milage and energy output, carbs became a necessity. The fats were simply not enough to power me through those intense 2-2.5 hour workouts. I would get injured every few months. Since adding fruit back into my diet? I'm Not even getting close to tired or injured during my workouts, and my performance is exploding.

What about carbohydrates during surgery recovery? Is it beneficial to consume more carbs or stay keto or low-carb while the body is in such a period of ongoing repair? How would this differ between women and men? Thank you!

I would definitely say do carbohydrates for potential physical therapy. Keto and Intermittent Fasting is known to heal the body over time. I’d recommend Keto and have a certain time in the day where you eat and the other time can be for your body to recover 18:6 Intermittent Fasting helps me a lot. It’s all about what you eat though. Kale, Spinach, Shredded Lettuce Salad with Chicken is great. Before workouts I’d say to have oats or rice/ quinoa and it will help you a lot with energy and recovery and it shouldn’t kick you entirely out of Ketosis if you burn it off which should be really easy. If you stop eating at 4:00 PM you can Break your fast at 10 PM and it would help tremendously. Just speaking from my experiences everyone is different but we are all habitual your body will love you for it.

I had a broken leg not too long ago. Coming from keto/ ultra low carb prior to breaking it, during recovery I started eating a huge sweet potato or two every day with butter and all else constant I maintained my weight and felt quite the same. I'm not sure if low carb would've benefited more in recovery more or not but I didn't notice a difference.

@@NMystery Try Intermittent Fasting at least 16 hours. 18-20 is amazing for healing benefits internally. Collagen is amazing for your body as well, organic beef tallow, etc. If you are doing physical therapy I would say take in about 50-100 carbs per day from GOOD sources before or during your session. Squash, Sweet Potato, Quinoa (All 9 Essential Amino Acids are in Quinoa) is perfect, anything that has quality. Avoid all fast food and try making sauerkraut with organic cabbage it’s very simple, it’s amazing for healing as well.

This is interesting. I never agreed with the notion of not exercising after eating. I'd go for runs after Thanksgiving dinner and feel awesome afterwards, while everyone else was in a coma, getting heavier. This also reinforces what Stan Efferding talks about with his walks after eating 👍

Why do I feel so much more energy after coconut oil than MCT oil? I had been using organic coconut oil from the grocery store in my morning coffee to get me through to lunch. I switched to MCT oil a few weeks ago and my energy levels have slowly plummeted. 1 tablespoon of either in the morning with coffee. Today I switched to 1 tbl spoon of coconut oil and 1/2 tbl spoon of MCT oil and oh boy do I have way more energy. I really don't understand this.

I have a similar approach. I'm pretty fat adapted and I will always argue it's the best and most sustainable energy source. Now, i will say, I do eat carbs pre workout because my pumps go through the roof and I always eat about 50 carbs immediately post workout with no fat and no protein to store glucose into my muscles. It works, I grow faster that way. The rest of the time, I don't eat many carbs. Carbs jack up my blood pressure, make me tired, and make my ass jiggle when I eat them at the wrong times. Spiking insulin right after training works and it works well! A lot of "certified personal trainers" don't even get this. They just tell people, it's all calories in calories out (which does matter) and that insulin spikes throughout the day, either don't happen from cabs, or don't make you fat. Both are very incorrect.

Arnold is a juicehead lmao. Don't take nutritional advice from a gearhead. Eating carbs after workout will replenish glycogen but why? Are you planning on exercising more? There's no need to replenish glycogen quick after workout. Gluconeogenesis will also do it. In fact, it's better to not eat carbs after because you want the mechanism of gluconeogenesis being used. Programming your body to use fat as often as possible is best.

Make sure you eat enough nutrition and calories during 8 hours feeding. Break your fast as with lean protein, like chicken breast. If your job is very hard labor it's considered exercise as you use muscles to lift. Important is to eat properly. Break a fast with protein, avocado, and fat(oils) to avoid insulin spike. Good luck. You will be amazed with the results. And to be consistent, eat the right food and proper nutrition. Doesn't make sense when people fast and eat junk.

Thomas when you are doing a OMAD keto plan and your eating time is around 1-4 in the evening when you start eating does your ketones stop producing. Thanks

I’m so confused you have stated In previous videos that almost everytime you workout you are kicked out of keto very rarely you have been able to stay in sooooo Your reasoning was for targeted keto so I know carbs during workout won’t help you stay in ketosis so please explain which is it working iut kicks us out of ketosis or no ? Thank you 🙏 great stuff I’m wanting to use targeted for long distance running after my workout but does this mean I should eat during as opposed to after now ?!

If you’re gonna have carbs, doing it intra workout will increase Glut4 expression which will help ensure those carbs are soaked up by your muscles in the short and long term. Experiment for yourself

Can glut4 bind to fructose? I believe I’ve been told fructose can only be stored as glycogen in the liver so does that mean it can’t follow the example in this video? (I’m hoping it can bind to it as I’ve just ate a bunch of fruit after a workout 🏋️‍♀️ 😂)
