I hear you😟. I'm 58 and also have a thyroid issue. After giving birth 21 years ago my weight hasn't been the same with so many ups and downs. I finally believe I have it now with OMAD and intermittent fasting. 29 pounds down with another 6 left but I think I'll lose 10 more.

Love your content. Currently educating my senior water aerobics class and sharing your videos. I lost 30 pounds despite 3 autoimmune, type 2 diabetes, half a thyroid due to cancer and 20 other issues. Lot's of seniors trying to stay healthy despite a lot of age related problems. They are getting the same conventional nutritional info from the clueless medical profession and the rather more delusional advice from the nutritionists educated by our universities. God Bless you.

I think it is about time to make the first thing you learn is eating right and the effects of everything you eat.
@gerwoman4289
@gerwoman4289 5 жыл бұрын
You are right eating right is not just affecting you at the very moment. Food merely the wrong choices will show it's effect years later and even decades. I do want to point out that not all is what it seams on the surface, some people even with poor choices do not suffer ill effects of food and live to a ripe old age unscathed of illness. The more important piece of information I wont to put out is the one that comes with age some wisdom gained and a lot of suffering. There are countless individuals who suffered trauma UNRELATED to poor lifestyle choices and merely surviving horrific abuse growing up, mental and physical tourture and mere poverty. Again I am not talking about people making poor choices, these are the people that have had to walk through adversity and are still standing. And decided to change at this very point in their life when the mind and body were able to comprehend even though everything is still against them. Can we applaud them or do we use a broad whip and chastise them even further. We do not condemn a soldier that suffers PTSD, or do we? So there are legitimate reason people acquire health problems beyond their understanding. So I am all for GRACE. After all Jesus has GRACE and MERCY for us. God bless you and awesome you are the one that understood lifestyle choices early on and was able to thrive in life. 👏🙏👍

@gerwoman4289
@gerwoman4289 5 жыл бұрын
@@coldwinter5710 not really a secret formula, I tried the old calorie In/out method over the years with little long term success and it didn't work anymore with all the illnesses that hit at once. So I had nothing to loose and started fasting with bone broth to reset my metabolism and help the insulin resistence. Now I teether between Carnivore (my favorite.. less carvings less work.. less inflammation) most days I am able to do the intermittent fasting 18/6 but not beating myself up anymore if I fail. And I ask God to help me on days I can't. Was praying for 4 years for GOD to make a way in this valley I found myself in. With sickness came the job loss and the unworthiness and the lack of resources to make these changes possible. The fatigue was worse than the pain. I watch a lot of you tube and pick the most relevant issues I am facing and add to it as I go. Dr. Berg, Dr. Ken Berry, Dr Jason Fung,Dr. Ekberg and about 3 others. I hit a plateau after surgery but was able to keep the weight within 5 pounds for 3 month without water aerobics. God bless you and HE said in HIS word when we are weak HE is more than able to do it on our behave. Believe it because HE also says what he does for one HE will do for you. I am believing for a miracle and in the mean time give hope to the ones who need it more than I do. 🙂

This video is what I needed so bad. So much great advice to try. I have suspected I have metabolism or thyroid issues for a long time now. I have a pretty long history of crossfit and functional training and I have been intermittent fasting fairly regularly for almost 7 years. I haven't been to a crossfit gym in like 6 years, but still workout very regularly at home. I carry a lot of muscle and am a stocky 5'8 guy who has always been around the 175lbs area with a 29-30" waist. And whenever I started slacking and saw my weight increasing, I would buckle down and easily melt it off. Now...beginning around august 2020 and onward...I have ballooned up to 200lbs (198 today). And despite all my fitness and nutritional knowledge and my repeated attempts...I just kept gaining and couldn't lose it. And I am not used to that. When I put my mind to it and work hard and clean my eating and calorie consumption...I always would get results. And now...nothing seems to work. I have made at least 10 attempts to "grind"...but when I hit the two month mark and haven't lost a single measurement or pound...it really screws with my motivation to continue past that 2 month mark. Something "feels" off with myself. My sleep has always been crap (I am a shift worker). So that doesn't help. Everyone around me is like "this is what happens when you reach 40". I refuse to accept that. I did go through a lot of life changing stress in 2019. And I spent 2019 trying to kill myself through workouts, for coping. I literally went David goggins style almost daily for all of 2019. While doing my normal shift work. And then I let my foot off the gas in 2020 and went back to "normal" workout and life routines. Did I destroy my metabolism and fry my adrenals and/or thyroid with my 2019 antics? Or all my intermittent fasting? Or all my stress? Or reaching 40 years old? Or my shift work for past 10 years? Or combination of it all? It seems no matter my deficit, no matter my workout volume...I can't lose weight now And then I watched this video and it gives me some hope. Thank you I will try to use a bunch of advice in this video and make another attempt (11th).

Love this!!! Recently I started introducing pasta every few weeks and I’ve been loosing more weight!! I couldn’t find an answer for this until now - must be that leptin thing you’re talking about!!!! Ive been OMAD fasting for over 2yrs and I am hypothyroid (from total thyroidectomy) - I feel like some of the things you’ve mentioned are really important!!! The only thing is fasting decreased My T4 conversion and increased my Reverse T3 so my Dr had to up my dose and no-one talks about this!! I read that Reverse T3 is all about needing Carbs - that’s what led me to experiment with eating alittle carbs again. So glad you mentioned this because I think this is an uncharted area for us thyroid folk who find that fasting isn’t as straightforward as it is for non-thyroid people. P.s my medication dropped and my weight went back down after rising slightly once I started having a carb meal once a week / fortnight.

Tip for the ACV drink! If you have “Lite Salt” or any salt with potassium, that would be the best to add. Not only will it help balance the flavor, but you’ll be getting a little extra potassium, which will help your muscles stay energized throughout keto (or any other lifestyle diet). Get magnesium through a supplement or leafy green veggies!

Thomas - small point but would like to mention it. The thyroid and in thyroid cells isn’t the only place T4 to T3 conversion takes place. In fact, less than 20% happens in the thyroid and it mostly happens outside in the liver and gut. That’s why people who have had thyroid removal surgery (I had thyroid cancer) can take levothyroxine (T4 only Synthroid) and still have active T3 levels. Search “Defending plasma T3 is a biological priority by Sherine M. Abdalla and Antonio C. Bianco” for the science but the entire conversation reinforces how important the role of the liver and gut is. And thanks for these videos - you have made a positive difference in my life.

So many questions.... First supplements, there have been a lot of supplements recommended. How do we know which ones to use, when to use, this has been a big question for myself. Turmeric... do you have a recommended drink to put it in. Your ACV drink or anything else? Coffee how much coffee is too much coffee? Fasting..... I started the challenge with you and I find it very difficult to control my food in take if I eat 3 meals a day. I find it way easier going 20hrs every day. You stated your body is more likely to store fat in the evenings. So is it better to have a massive meal in the morning and that’s your one meal or is it better to eat in the evening but control fat amounts. If evening is the answer is it simply the fat source or type or is it simply cutting back the volume. So instead of 70% cut it back to 50-55% and increase proteins I know a lot of questions. You have great vids and they have helped us a ton. But sometimes the info over laps or there is so much to it, that it almost seems like they contradicts each other. Last part with the leptin. Being keto the leptin spike through me for a loop. You state 1-2 in a 2 wk period We have been doing keto for 4 months with some higher carb days but those come from taking in more vegetables or having extra nuts. Would that still count or do you need a good spike from your examples. Thanks John

I can appreciate that "metabolism" can be "fast" ("hot") or "slow" ("cool"); but I am not at all sure either of those states is more healthy (i.e., not "destroyed") than the other. I will also grant you that metabolism is controlled by things (e.g., thyroid) that may be, in and of themselves, healthy, or not (i.e., metabolism as a symptom). IMHO, the goal is health, and that combines diet with exercise; and except for something that is out of kilter (e.g., disease or damage), everything else will take care of itself. All that said, how do I know if I have a healthy (i.e., not "destroyed") metabolism or not? Love your videos, Thomas - keep up the good work.

I just posted this to a previous comment: it can definitely be complicated, start small with some simple rules and don't overcomplicate it for yourself. Been on and off Keto myself and I've found that sticking to a solid plan up front and holding yourself accountable is the best strategy. You'll see results from your hard work trust me. I drank a lot during college and managed to stick with moderate keto / no exercise for 9 months and lost 50 pounds. If I would have been stricter and read into a lot more powerful ways to lose that weight and be healthier, I may have had better results however I could have just not done it because the diet tips could have gotten overwhelming.

@@tierramarylibertad561 I’ve been struggling losing weight for the past 1-2 years now and I’ve even gained lots of weight despite dieting, working out 2x a day, etc. I went to doctors and all blood work was fine. But I’ve gained lots of weight and struggle to lose. So I researched and I believe I’ve been struggling with metabolic damage. Would you care if I reached out to you via email or DM to ask for some tips?

@@freddylong6234 wow same story for me.. years of dieting kind of crumbled my metabolism and in last two years Ive gained like 70 lbs In the beginning I was about 110 lbs.. went up to 120 and did keto, IF and strict workouts to lose it quick. Every time I lost 5 lbs when I ate normally a balanced diet of about 1500 calories I would gain all the weight back and some more end up 10 lbs heavier...the stricter my diet more weight Id gain by rebound. Many rounds of dieting and bouts of exercise and injuries later Im at 185 lbs.. now I find I gain weight if I eat over 700 calories in a day while exercising and 400 sedentary. Its absolutely crazy and only someone who lives with me would believe me others look at me like Im lying when they come to me and say things like you have gained a lot of weight you should do something about it.. this was said by a girl who lost her baby weight in 3 months and got skinny eating 2000 calories instead of 2500..she has no idea what carbs and macros are. She hasn't eaten a salad in her life and 90% of her diet is carbs.

Okay so I’ve lost 50lbs in about 2 months and I’m at a plateau at 200lbs. I get that this is normal because my body has lost a lot of weight. But because the scale isn’t going down and I’ve been trying everything from more workouts, less workouts, rest , and change in diets I’m getting a bit panicked. What size were you at your plateau and where are you now? What changes did you make to your diet along with walking ?

Thank you so much for these ideas! I have dealt with my metabolism being severely damaged. It took about a year to restore. This was before I started keto. I definitely don't want to damage it or have to go through the restoration process again.

This is what I needed! After so many different diets and having a baby, weight rebound is no joke. I can vouch that high protein works. I did carnivore and omad for 1 month and lost 10 lbs. My anxiety and panic attacks stopped. I'm going to try these tips. I cannot lose the regound weight. I wish rebound weight was more spoken about. I did not know that you can ruin your metabolism from dieting.

71 and trying to lose 10 lbs for the past year. With low carb high fat diet. Guess I'm going to do the morning drink with cayenne and extra salt in my regular lemon/apple cider vinegar water. Plan to drink halfcafed coffee. I don't really need coffee just drink out of habit. Lemon water took away my craving for coffee. Continue with turmeric, alpha lipoic, b-complex, B12, and collagen in coffee. Continue with daily aerobics and add strength training 3 days a week. Will try the 36hr fast and break with lean poultry or fish. Hope I didn't misunderstood him from several of his programs.

I had to have my entire thyroid removed cancer on both sides. I gained 75 lbs in one year.I loose 25lbs but get stuck and can not seem to get past the stall. I am always tired. Is there a way to reset the metabolism when you don’t have a thyroid gland anymore? A video to help others like me would be great.

My caloric intake was severely limited over the past several years because of an autoimmune issue. Strangely enough, I actually gained weight instead of losing it. My hands and feet get cold easily and no matter how much I workout or cut calories I can't lose weight. Since addressing the autoimmune issue, I've been able to slowly increase my calories, but I'm still overweight. Most online "experts" say I need to cut calories even more even though I'm usually eating under my calculated BMR. I'd really like to fix this.

This video hit home. I am a 47 obese guy that does crossfit almost 5-6 days a week for the past 20 months. I joke that I am the fittest fat guy that you know with people. I have lost about 30 lbs during that time frame but the weight will not come off anymore which is frustrating and disheartening. I had to rewind your video when you talked about too much HIIT impacting weight loss. I have dieted off and on but never able to loose weight to get below 250# during this time period. I did try low-carb, high-fat diet and I felt the best but everyone told me that it wasn't sustainable. I have also suspected that my metabolism is very depressed. How does it normally take to rebuild your metabolism?

I’m 38 and have been alternating between extreme dieting and eating junk food since the age of 13. I was 112 pounds most of my adult life, but got stressed with work and starting eating more, dieting and exercising less. I’m now 140 pounds and even with exercise, keto and fasting I cannot lose weight! Have completely messed up my metabolism. If I just ate normally all my life and allowed the occasional treats, I would never have had to go on a diet.

So I have ibs-d like symptoms. Sticking with a diet more strict than the fodmap elimination diet, I eat turkey or chicken salads everyday for lunch and dinner. I do gluten free multigrain cheerios with almond milk and scrambled eggs. I also snack on plain salted almonds. My problem is that I have to limit my carbs due to my digestion issues. But I struggle with maintaining weight and building muscle mass. I guess the answer to slow down a metabolism would be to do the opposite of this video’s advice. But I can’t load up on carbs. And if I eat more almonds or more meat during the day, I just poop more out. I appreciate your videos.

I've been doing keto for a year and a half. I've lost 100 lbs and need to lose 100 more. I have never cheated. Not even once. It has cured my type 2 diabetes, acid reflux, psoriasis, off of 2 HBP meds and no more cholestrol meds. I have been on levothyroxine for about 20 years. I have been stalled for about 5 months and have tried different things with no success. I also still check my blood sugar at night before bed and in the morning after 15 to 16 hr. fast. My b.s. is higher in the morning than at night! Does this mean insulin resistance? Also stay cold all the time! Dry hair and skin. Have I destroyed my metabolism with strict keto for 1 year? I am depressed now too, because of the long stall. Although, if I never lose another lb. I will never go back to eating crap and feeling like crap. HELP!!

idk anything about your journey. But as a 6'1" 30 y/o man @ 195lbs 16% bf. When I did keto. I could only do it for 4 and 1/2 weeks. Drinking mct oil, olive oil, etc. I reached a point of panic attacks, couldn't sleep, couldn't focus, nothing. And I had to add in carbs. I only eat carbs maybe 2x a week now. But if I don't for whatever reason I don't seem to make serotonin. Idk why. But all I can do is pace around a room regardless of how many calories I eat from fat when I've been doing it that long. Maybe that helps. Also I only intermittent fast 3x days / week. Doing it everyday I lose way too much muscle mass and energy. My stomach just isn't large enough to take in 3,500 calories in 1 sitting while eating vegetables. Hopefully there is someone else here that has a better solution for you.

I am 77 years old and have lost 82 pounds on Atkins. Thomas DeLauer is starting a fasting program January 2, 2020. I have no doubt that this will encourage you. I would suggest watching Dr. Jason Fung's UTube on fasting. I'm going to follow the doctor's "bone broth" fast while watching Thomas DeLauer's program. Thomas' menu is great for a beginner. It gives newbies more food options. If you do the bone broth recommended by Dr. Fung, don't forget to have plenty of salt with the broth. The salt will maintain a high level of energy. I have found that I hadn't lost any energy at all in those two weeks of fasting while losing a lot of weight. I would strongly suggest that you start going very low in carbs to prepare for your fast with Thomas. When I went off solid foods completely there was zero difference in my energy levels. This told me that my body was burning fat big time! Good luck. (Michael Scott, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada)
