Exactly. I got a glucose monitor and have worked my way through my diet a removed everything that spiked my glucose. Tomatoes, bell peppers etc, spiked my glucose as much as honey. Can’t wait for CGMs to become cheaper or as part of a smart watch etc.

Thats interesting on the peppers and tomatoes i have almost zero response eating greek salad which is peppers, tomatoes, red onion and cucumbers with homemade greek dressing when eaten with a steak or other meat. I have not tried eating just the salad because i never eat carbs without meat of some kind.

@@GregariousAntithesis I mean I agree that not everyone is born with the insulin sensitive genetics to eat starch and sugar (bread, rice, desserts etc) and stay lean on a high protein diet. Some people even with a clean liver (low liver fat) have so slow metabolisms they can be lean only on proteins and fat with minimal carbs because insulin slows the metabolism down which works in the favor of those with faster metabolisms to build muscle. But nobody's metabolism is so slow that bell pepper releases so much insulin that their metabolism slows down.

Unfortunately, the push to use wearables, and to constantly monitor and track my body, is where I draw the line. It's not that I wouldn't love to have the information to better my health and myself. It's that the tech companies, and the people behind the technocratic agenda, have proven time and time again they do not care about our privacy, or us. Many of the people behind these tech companies have already proven they put profit over privacy, and have intentions that have nothing to do with helping you monitor or improve your health. Anyone thinking of getting a CGM, fitness tracker, or any similar device that can detect the most intimate details of your health and biology, should first consider the implications of doing so. Not only are they relatively expensive for the average consumer interested in simply improving their health, but this tech may very well be giving information to the people who can least be trusted with it. It is sad that the tech that has the potential to benefit us most is being controlled and given to us by those who cannot be trusted, and who have nefarious intentions. Until this changes, and we demand accountability from the powers that shouldn't be, I am just saying no to these trackers. I will stick to the diet and fitness practices I know I can rely on to supply me will good health. Thanks anyway, Thomas! I still appreciate all of your tips and research.

Try a non-continuous glucose monitor (the ones that prick your finger). I will not use the continuous monitoring devices either mainly due to the EMFs involved in the devices and at some point over tracking becomes a negative to me. I have learned so much from my prick finger glucose monitor over the last two months and really refined by eating.

I agree with you on principal, but whats the alternative? Its impossible to get the same insights elsewhere. Plus doctors just dont care about us anymore. They know jack squat about nutrition too. And they despise preventative care - my primary doc office wont even run baseline bloodwork until someone is 45 - they told me to go somewhere else when I persisted. And when something goes wrong, "its genetic". We need to start taking care of ourselves and companies like this are providing tools to do so. With that said, we should definitely hold them accountable to protect our data. But the risk to reward ratio here is clearly in favor of the later. "They'll" be busy for a while with all the DNA they stole from us via the covid tests for anyway. 😉

Besides privacy and surveillance, the mere preoccupation with metrics and technical details draws us further away from nature and from our true selves. Every person knows his or her body and soul best, and gets warning signs. Living in accord with nature is the only healthy way of living. Where do these gadgets lead to? Nano-chips put inside the body in the name of science but actually in the name of laziness and conformism? Just another expression of consumers mentality. Numbers numbers, doesn't matter how you feel, only numbers. AI will tell you how you feel. Giving control over your body (and mind and soul) to others, to gadgets, to AI, to manufacturers to rulers. Sorry, not me. Not ever. I unsubscribed from this channel, btw, seeing this. For too long this bright guy has been utilitarian and it can be seen on his face and heard in his voice. I’m prediabetic and I’ve had spikes for no reason. I eat the same foods every day. 3 days of fasting sugar in upper 200s and then I started having symptoms of COVId. On the day the symptoms started, blood sugar went back to what it normally is 112. So be aware sickness, diseases can cause spikes.

Stress is the fight or flight reaction which is genetically preprogrammed in our bodies. Over time the stressors have changed from animals hunting humans to daily stressors of the average working adult. Various coping skills training such as deep breathing, meditation and exercise can and will lower the stress. Keeping adrenaline in check is very important in my opinion.

I have a CGM that starts with a D and they have NO info on this then I checked another one that starts with an L and they were even worse . I was kind of slacking at checkin ur KZbin site every day and I missed this report a month ago. THIS IS PHENOMAL I thought to set my D CGM alarm 2 130 and when the alarm goes off to get up and go 4 a walk. That's working wonders!! But u thought of it earlier THANK YOU SO MUCH!! BTW why aren't u a certified health coach? Keep doing this please (cuz u r literally saving lives AND HELPING 2 STOP ALZHEIMER'S with this CGM idea)

Tim Ferriss had a really good personal experiment on himself where he tracked his insulin/glucose, heart rate, blood pressure, etc. and used the data to find the optimal time to eat, the optimal foods for his body, etc. and not only that, as the metrics changed he adjusted his diet and exercise to match the new data. I think he was also doing bloods at the same time, and he found that everything he did to lose weight and become more fit and feel better but it was also SUPERCHARGED ... I think this should be the future of medicine, and very Star Trek.

Miss having the CGM. Had one for a month and a half and learned a ton. When i started my lifestyle change my A1C was 5.7 pre diabetic with fasting glucose of 96. After quitting sugar, starch, grain and high glycemic vegs and fruit and now eating primarily meat/fish/eggs, modest high fat dairy, nuts, seeds and low glycemic vegs, fruit, fungus, my A1C is now 4.7 and my fasting averages in the 70s-80s and has been as low as the 60s. For me the biggest key for low fasting blood glucose is doing moderate intensity circuit training for 1 hour snd 15 minutes 3 days a week i will see a moderate spike up to 120s after but it drops of quickly then my next am fasting numbers are 60s-70s. I walk the other 3 days a week around 2.75 miles and dont see the lower fasting blood glucose like with circuit training but my metabolism and insulin reaponse is so good now that im staying largely in the 80s before and after meals and rarely go over 100. Quit following my ketones when i hit my ideal weight goal of 165 but i check my glucose at least 3 times a day.

I know i eat around a 1 lb steak at my mid day primary meal then usually eat brocolli, cauliflower, aspergus, mushrooms or a mixed green salad with onion, pepper, fetta, homemade italiam dressing the amount is about a medium sized dog food bowl full. If its greek salad i eat only one handful because it has far more carbs cumulative than other things i eat. I dont think you can get to carried away with things like broccoli or cauliflower, etc. they are so low in carbs mostly fiber.

I eat two meals a day most days some days just one snd i drink decaf coffee all day with heavy cream and have one avocado everyday at noon and i have to consciously be sure to plan to eat two meals or im just not getting enough calories.

Twords the when the weight loss had slowed way down the one meal a day early made a big difference as well getting down that last few lbs.

Poor sleep also effects heart rate variability and base pulse rate, and wrist devices can also measure kinetic affects of sleep quality in addition to those. I wear a (kinda crappy) brand that does that.

I agree with a lot of what you’re saying and it’s good to have a glucose monitor but for me, I hate pricking myself but I’ve been considering the patches and here’s where we differ, everyone’s goal isn’t the same. I lost my weight without tracking anything, I get my electrolytes in, never needed data, except for KZbinrs that follow a keto/ low carb lifestyle and Maintained this lifestyle for 4 years, one thing I will say about keto, it will make anyone nuts, even when I did take breaks I used get extremely uptight, and stressed, before and after and I don’t want to live like that, I want to enjoy life especially with how crazy everything thing is going. Adf/ has gotten me back on track, it’s the real deal and In a crisis situation, who will be able to stay keto for long?😳 Update: Currently doing just Adf and I like it. Dropped weight quick! The Key is to exercise.

I was able to get a prescription for a CGM from my primary care doctor. Using the FreeStyle Libre 14 day. I did some fun experimenting. A two scoop hot fudge sundae did not raise my glucose much at all. However, a bowl of cereal, milk and walnuts shot it up to over 200. Go figure. I don’t understand why that would be. (Mint chocolate chip ice cream oh, and whipped cream, in case you were wondering.)

Don't settle for any fasting number over 100. They may only categorize that as "pre-diabetic," but I was only 105 fasting when my HgbA1c had already hit the full-blown diabetic level of 7.9%. You don't want numerous physical complications before being diagnosed.

My diabetes has returned with a vengeance. Although I’m in decent shape, after getting a certain shot (causation or correlations?), I have the symptoms of diabetes that o had over a decade ago. I went through the process for signos because I am trying to control through diet since I do not want to be on medication. Less than 20 grams of carbs and they are all leafy greens. Some days I’m good some days to the moon. I need to understand what is spiking my insulin. After they took the payment I was told that I am not a fit for the CGM. Now I am awaiting my refund. But I don’t want the refund. I want the device. I need it! I am a police officer so stress and lack of sleep are also factors but I need to figure this out. I don’t like pricking my fingers 6 times a day. They are basically calloused already. Should I just try to get a prescription from a doctor?

@San Antonio Strong I’ve actually done this with patients where insurance wouldn’t cover it especially in cases with pre-diabetes, sadly I’m unable to do that for every patient. Having enough sensors also becomes a problem as well.

theoretically you really could be a tiny bit pre-diabetic if your gut bacteria do not produce enough SCFAs and maybe other postbiotics that stimulate your L cells in the gut to produce GLP-1/PYY. this is an analog process, so between high amount of GLP-1 or very low GPL-1 is a huge difference. this has an effect on glucagon and if glucagon is too high, then the liver is overproducing blood sugar. even if your diet contains a lot of fiber, at some point you also got some antibiotics prescribed by the doctor and that does some damage.

Docs have given me all kinds of meds. Nothing works. Intermittent fasting is not working either. So appreciate any advice.

Thomas, would love a more thorough video on the dawn effect. Im an ectomorph doing keto, but my fasted glucose is always between 100-130. And every time I have lab work done its on the high side, assuming because thats stressful. The weird thing is, last time I used a GCM (only done it twice) it wasnt happening. I thought resolving my sleep apnea fixed it. But apparently not so much, it came back. Wondering if other people experience it in cycles. Also curious if some area able to fix this. Last, why is my functional med doctor concerned about it when it seems like this is so common?

Hi Thomas what about the individuals that do long term keto? Depending on what they eat could affect the glucose response 2 to 3hrs after the meal since it kicks in slower per the Harvard study which you discussed in another video. So for someone that doesnt know this and watches the vid they might think they are diabetic if they eat carbs after a workout, when its just their body's not used to carbs. So I recently got a physical done and it looks like I'm in that pre-diabetic/insulin resistant stage and I've been full on trying to reverse it. I've been consuming more protein with little to no carbs in all my meals. Usually get carbs from vegetables only on lunch and dinner, with no carbs on breakfast. I go to the gym more regularly on a weekly basis usually 3 times a week if my schedule permits. I usually go before dinner after 4 hours of no eating at all since lunch in the midday. Just asking for a friend here if this is a good start? Or should I rework somethings?

Are those numbers a little high? I had to use the conversion chart online, but when I was pregnant, my doctor said a fasting blood glucose over 5.0 mmol/L was too high, and same number for one hour after meals! I rather hope your numbers are right because I found it a struggle to keep my numbers there and I never thought I had an issue in this area!

I am wondering if I am in one of these categories or if I should be on keto. I started keto because I was pre-diabetic not for weight loss, and actually lost 5 lbs when I could use to gain 10-15. But anyway after 3 months my FBS went up from 94 to 115 and my A1c went from 5.7 to 6.1. This was very discouraging. Why would it all go up ?

I went on a commercial, supervised keto plan several years ago thinking it would be safer. They had me drinking five protein drinks a day. The drinks were loaded with soy, and I ended up very sick. They also allowed fruit, beans, and other carbs. I did lose weight at first, but my A1C was not improved. Clean keto with real food is the only way to go. Don't be afraid of fat. It is not hurting you nearly as much as the carbs.

Most likely eating too much protein or eating too often. Also, there might be hidden carbs in what you're eating.

Balanced? You will always have spikes after you eat. The only real difference between a non-diabetic and a diabetic is the spikes are much higher in the diabetic, or when their blood sugars are low, they are real low. In those cases a nutritionist will recommend frequent smaller meals and snacks.

I’m type 2 on insulin. I hate it. I workout when I can but feel tired quite often. I feel like the humilin Iam on is making me gain weight. But I don’t know.

It probably is making you store fat. You might look into a combo of humalog type and the longer acting like Victoza or Bydureon. Tighten up your carb intake and watch how certain foods affect your body. You can do this!

Does posture matter when eating? Are we naturally suppose to eat standing up, sitting down, or squatting? I’ve been trying to learn how to sleep while squatting like the Yahgan people. Those people were superhuman.

In Africa, it's customary for us to sit on mats on the Floor to eat or really low stools. Also, I guess the way Japanese people eat is also good. Just theorising though

Hey thomas Ive been following the keto diet for about 2 months... and I just wanted to know if what I'm experiencing is normal... ive been on keto for 2 months lost weight (great) but now I noticed that I've given myself a cheat day every 2 weeks and that means that I ate heavy carbs foods... well i do feel like shit after But I notice that when I added that 1 cheat day every 2 weeks Ive built more muscle then before and still lost fat? Is this possible?

That cheat day thing won’t affect ketosis all that much in the long haul as you should be fat-adapted by now. Probably even good to prevent glucose intolerance. I’ve been doing something similar. I’ve been doing a “cheat weekend” every 2-3 weekends.

Thats cap you gain water weight and confuse it with beeing muscle 1 cheatday wont ever give you suddenly more gains you could think so if you still new or never informed yourself well about ketosis, and still think insulin=muscle grows but in reality, someone who does keto does not suddenly get rid of insulin, he just becomes sensitive again so the 20-50g carbs will do better then the 500g carbs a carb addicted dude eats, who cant utilize insulin as good

Damn those things are expensive! (Not just that brand.) I'm waiting for the watch with the chip in it that was rumored to be coming out this year (but it will probably be a few years out.) PS: In the mean time, I track breath ketones with a clinical-quality meter for less than two months of a CGM.

Having a physical device that only works based on monthly sub, it's insanely expensive, the one promoted here. Look for FreeStyle Libre 2, way cheaper and not sub based.

Yes, the USofA uses a different system than most the rest of the world. Check the British or Canadian equivalent of the American Diabetes Association for the equivalents you need. I’m American, and I don’t really understand the rest of the world’s methods for measuring. I believe Australia and New Zeeland also use the British measurement for diabetes, but check. There should be a website.

IMHO, I'm not a doctor nor nutritionist, ketones is what you want to track perhaps even more than your glucose. It should be all about trying to figure out how much insulin you are using. Can you not have a normal glucose level and a high insulin level? Isn't that the definition (or part of) insulin resistance? If your ketones are high you know your insulin is low. Lots of things can spike your blood glucose besides eating too many carbs. So take measure of your ketones.

@@Scottlp2 You do not understand what the underlying problem is - insulin resistance. You can have high insulin, which keeps you fat, and normal blood glucose. How does tracking your glucose help in this case? Damage to your arteries is being done. Problems with liver & pancreas being done all the while you think you have it under control when you don't. Just get a meter that reads both glucose and ketones. Sugar is poison. If you are per-diabetic or have type 2 diabetes I would think you would want more control over your ketones. Just saying...

None of the studies he cites in this video has anything to say about the bioindividuality of "fat burning" and "fat storing" foods. Thomas is literally making stuff up. No one watching this video should accept such fiction. Please don't reply to this comment by rationalizing the lie Thomas espouses at the start of the video. And please don't reply to this comment by saying that he get's everything else right (that's a red herring). What is the bioindividuality he speaks of? And what is the proof of its supposed existence? Does it have something to do with food toxicity and allergies? Do foods that you are allergic to increase your insulin levels? Or is Thomas really just making stuff up at the start of the video? Is Thomas talking about people who are not genetically predisposed to becoming fat? So some people are genetically predisposed to becoming fat such as myself, but is that really "bioindividuality"? And since people who are genetically predisposed to becoming fat become fat on any high carb diet, the term "bioindividuality" makes no sense. The concept of bioindividuality makes even less sense when we consider the fact that the entire world is getting fatter and more diabetic each and every passing year. Is Thomas lying through his teeth on this subject?

Need help here! I have been on keto for a month now, carb and protein is within limit but some days I think I dont eat enough fat. I also do the exercise 3-4 times a week and IF 18/6. I had dinner around 6 PM and next meal is noon the next day. What concern me is that my blood ketone is always over 3 or 3.5 mmol + blood glucose around 65-75 before my first meal. Is this too high? Also, 1.5 hrs after exercise and dinner, blood ketone is over 4 mmol while glucose is 80. Please help! TIA I dont have diabetes. 125 lbs/5’6 - age 36

Hemoglobin A1C. It's essentially a measure of how much glucose is being transported in the hemoglobin in your blood. Its your "blood sugar" in a rough sense
