The Leuvensesteenweg, also known as the chaussée de Louvain, is a significant arterial road in Brussels. It begins at Madou Square and extends all the way to Kortenberg in Flemish Brabant, where it continues as the Brusselsesteenweg. This road is part of the N2 (Brussels-Leuven-Hasselt) 1.
The winding initial section of the Leuvensesteenweg in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode runs eastward from Madou Square, passing through Saint-Josse Square and reaching Kardinaalsstraat. From there, the road continues straight in a northeast direction. Up to Notelaarsstraat, it is shared between Saint-Josse and Brussels (Square district). On the Saint-Josse side lies the former Leuvensesteenweg Station (now Jazz Station) on railway line 161. Following that is the Schaerbeek segment, which includes Dailly Square and the complex seven-way intersection of Meiserplein. The road then proceeds through Evere, passing Paduwa Square. After a short stretch in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert, the Leuvensesteenweg enters the Flemish Region in Woluwe-Saint-Étienne. At the bridge over the Grote Ring, the Leuvensesteenweg enters Zaventem territory, followed by Nossegem, Kortenberg, and Erps-Kwerps 1.
During the French era, the road was named rue Napoléon Ier. The Leuvensesteenweg has a rich history and remains an important traffic artery in the region 1.
