In the European Union, or at least most countries in the EU, cargo vans must have a separation between passenger cabin and cargo area and no windows in the cargo area. This way they qualify as a cargo van for business purposes and are taxed less than the passenger versions. Also, for the EU cargo van market it is important that a europallet fits in, which is a standardized pallet size used by many delivery companies, railroad and even airlines. The europallet is 47.2 by 31.5 inches.

5:45 The Buzz Cargo comes with one sliding side door as standard. But you can option your Buzz Cargo with two sliding side doors if you want. Here in the UK, the extra sliding door is a £1,050 option. You can even purchase a Buzz Cargo with two side-hinged rear doors instead of the powered tailgate on the version that you drove in this video. The powered tailgate is a £528 option, whereas the side-hinged rear doors are a standard no cost option. And yes, you can have a rear window for your Buzz Cargo - but only if you have optioned the powered tailgate. The window will only come fitted to the powered tailgate itself. There is no option for windows on the side body panels or windows for the side-hinged rear doors. But who knows. With the right customer demand and pressure, VW may launch more window options in future.
@rattymcclelland

it's sucks, you can ONLY have a windowed tailgate, you can't have windowless tailgate. Also no arm rests for the drivers seat if you option the standard 2 seat passenger bench. Hopefully the tailgate changes or else if have to bodycoloured vinyl wrap the rear window to hide equipment.

One thing that struck me from watching the driving test shot from the passenger side is the dual passenger seat configuration and how this could be easily applied to pickup trucks in order to eliminate the usually (unoccupied) 2nd row of double cab pickups allowing either a longer cargo capacity bed OR smaller pickups; not everybody wants, or needs, to drive a behemoth of a pickup.

Hopefully it comes with a 350 mile range, and if there were some way to purchase it in a different country and bring it to the US. Auto makers located outside of the US get around the tariff by importing cargo trucks and vans either as a kit to be assembled in the US or with the ability to remove rear passenger seats. The chicken tax is just one of those policies that is outdated and easily circumvented.

It's such a shame that many of the EV's that UK, European, Australian and New Zealand markets get, don't even get a look-in when it comes to North America. I think many manufacturers greatly underestimate Nth American buyers judging by the often heard/read lament: "Wish we could get it over here". The appeal of the Bolt & Nissan Leaf shows that American buyers in particular, aren't necessarily as hidebound to what we outside of Nth America often disparagingly remark on as "yet another oversized (Yank Tank)", as they once were.

Does anyone think that having no crumple zone in front of the driver is a good idea? I used to have a '72 VW van, and I now shudder to think about what a front-end collision would have done. I remember there was a morbidly funny line in John Muir's classic "How to keep your Volkswagen Alive" book, something to the effect that the driving position in the van made you drive as cautiously as if you were strapped to the front like an Aztec sacrifice.
