We check out the coolest Toyota ever made. The top of the line luxury model that is of the level of a Rolls Royce or a Bentley. And it also comes with Toyota's one and only V12 Engine!
The Toyota Century. A swan song of everything Japanese. A very cool luxury car that initially won't wow you or really bring your attention until you start looking at the finer details.
It has always been my belief that the Toyota Century is a moving work of art. We take a look at a beautiful 1997 Toyota Century V12.
Even though this is a 25 year old car, that V12 is very much a Toyota engine. Whisper quiet and smooth.
Special thanks to the owner Tim who brought us this special car and allowed us to film and share the car with you.

Wonderful review! I bet the employees and bosses at Toyota are going to be amused watching this, and pleased by your enthusiasm and respect for the car. It reminds me of the trips I used to take to Japan, when I had a chance to see cars you would never see in the US. Even riding in some of the taxis was a completely different experience, especially regarding the ride quality and driver behavior and professionalism Japan is very much a different culture, and I enjoy it for that reason!

Daylin, Unless parts availability become an issue. Even if you are lucky enough to source from Japan, there's still the time (ship) and/or cost (jet) to get them here. It's surprising/discouraging that Ahmed mentioned the difficulty getting an oil filter for it. That's a key part. I hope he does another video as he attends to the oil leaks it's there to be fixed. It's a special car for sure. Probably not the best choice as a daily driver. Maybe reserve it as a daily driver for 3 seasons so it's not exposed to our salt. Great video though! Ahmed, I suspect you may get to own this very car in the future.👍🙏

Hi, The Car Care Nut I am Chinese. I don't know about this car, but I can understand from the literal meaning of the two buttons on the left side of the steering wheel, the leftmost one is to turn the rear curtain on and off. The second button is for adjusting the height of the body. Press down is raised. I hope it can help you!

I'm Japanese, and I appreciate to your words. I used to adore German cars, because of their beautiful design. But since I owned a used Audi A4, I was very disappointed with the poor quality. It broke so quickly, and the repair cost was so high! I sold it quickly because I sensed it would surely eat more money. Now I respect Japanese car manufacturers way more than before. My current car is Mazda.

Ask the Chinese how they will always remember the Japanese. I mean, sure, we can appreciate good traits in themselves, but we shouldn't neglect to study the enabling circumstances, because otherwise we start to worship ugliness. The karmic balance sheet, as I say, needs to be considered. Only then can we learn how to live virtue sustainably.

Love your videos, and this one is extra cool! May I suggest that at some point you consider using manual focus when trying to show engine components that are partially hidden? The hydraulic power steering pump is a great example (around 13:28) - there is no autofocus video camera I know of that could have grabbed focus on that (unless it is a higher end one that allows for spot focus.) As a retired shade-tree mechanic, I really enjoy when you point out various components, so just a suggestion to help make excellent videos even better :-)

Do not go to MVD "services" subcontracting agencies. go directly to a MVD/ADOT Government operated office. See my other comment explaining what the rear microphone in the rear center console is used for. Those forward sideview mirrors on each fender totally eliminate blind spots. Thank you for showing your dream car. I'm very curious if you would do a segment on RHD JDM Toyotas. Not just the sport cars, but moreso the touch on practical aspects for JDM pros and cons. You know practical driving, maintenance and repair tips.

You are so lucky to be able to drive one of those. I'm wondering what the approximate value is on that since they're made out of unicorn horns and they're hard to find. I too am a Toyota Master Tech with 40 plus years experience, enjoy your videos.

I was in the bay of Tokyo recently which is a pretty wealthy area and I saw a newer model of one of these gliding through and intersection and it's true that a picture or video can't fully show the car. There's an imposing presence when you see it up close, like you know whoever is in there is somebody that makes things happen. It's stealthy like it doesn't want to stick out but in doing so it sticks out even more like a nod to anyone who looks at it.

They have a phone app, that when you view the Japanese writing through your camera it translates it to English. If you're going to do more international car reviews you might want to download it 😉

You’re referring to “Google Translate”. 👍

Its called "Photo Translator" actually. I use it when I look at japanese...drawings. Even if the writing is stylized, simply take a picture and an english translation pops up. I haven't seen that functionality from google translate but it may exist

@@clockhanded Its a part of "google lens" and it does it live no need to take a photo, it super imposes the text on screen. I have had the feature for years but I do have a pixel phone

There are probably a dozen apps by now that do this. The most popular are “Google Translate” (by Google for Android, iPhone & iPad) and just “Translate” (by Apple for iPhone & iPad). They are both free unlike most of the others.

I had never seen this car before but one of my friends had a Cressida back in college and the design reminded me of that car when looking at the front.

I’m so impressed not only by your enthusiasm, respect and excellent presentation. I thought my 2008 S class was amazing! Thank you and of course Tim for allowing this example of Japanese engineering to be known to the world. I love a quiet, comfortable unassuming vehicle too. Mine is a black on black leather S320 diesel V6 3 litre long wheel base with plenty klms so I didn’t pay too much. I remember being impressed a few years ago when I saw one advertised at the time.

I would feel right at home in that interior even if I can't read japanese. It's got the exact same A/C & stereo control layout as my old '97 Lexus LS400.

It looks more of the previous Toyota Crown model, it's cool though with those fender-mounted mirrors... they give the best 360° surround ever.

It looks like the 2018 Century runs about $180,000, and uses the motor from the Lexus LS600H hybrid. 375Hp gas, plus 50Hp electric. I read that they made a 2018 Left hand drive model just for the Japanese Ambassador to France.

The latest Century runs the same entire drivetrain as the Lexus LS600H hybrid, so it's no longer as special as the previous model with the exclusive V12 engine; they sell for about 150k in Australia, which is 100k USD.
