Nice reverb too. Duduk is probably the single most overused instrument in any documentary or swordfighting movie that wants to signify "exotic and epic". Especially desert exotic, North Africa, Middle East, Silk Road, Roman empire, even the heathen Vikings, you name it, slap a duduk and reverb on there. It's beautiful, and wistful - that's why. And the reverb puts it over the top... it just sounds like a movie, already by that point.

even games, too! first three notes and I got slammed with memories of conan exiles 😂 there's a track that sometimes plays in the desert regions of the map with a soft, very beautiful and subtle duduk part

It was used for dubbing the sound of the "aulos" of the faun from narnia too, and it appears very prominently in Dune part ll

Instead of just using the duduk for everything, to the point of becoming a stereotype, producers should use instruments of the region the movie or game actually takes place in

Love the duduk. Traditional armenian instrument used in soundtracks for exotic desert scenes

You play very well 👍 Duduk is a Armenian instrument made from the apricot tree, it’s roots are deep. As deep as in history where the Turkish weren’t near Armenian land and Mount Ararat which was heart of Armenia. Now in the hands of blood thirsty Turks. The duduk is the sound of Armenian spirit that can’t be broken . 🙏❤️✝️🦅🇦🇲🔥🕊🦅

When I watched narnia for the first time as a little kid I instantly fell in love with the duduk. A narnian lullaby is a short eventful but beautiful song played on duduk.

I recall that a digitally altered form of this instrument gave us the sound of the Tsungi horn from Avatar: The Last Airbender.

I know people will tell me to "go to reddit" with this question, but seeing as you seem to have played the duduk for many years, which maker would you recommend? I go to reddit but all I see are people advertising their own shops, and I don't want to end up with a low quality "tourist duduk"

There is no such thing! It is an exclusively Armenian traditional instrument. The real name in Armenian is Tsiranapogh, and Duduk was named by the Russians from the Russian word Dudka.
