This is the "FREE RIG"...it CATCHES FISH!!!

The Free Rig is a brand-new rig that is going to catch on VERY quickly. It consists of a swivel drop-shot weight, bobber stop or bead and a hook with your choice of soft plastic. The free rig is ideal for vertical structure or pressured fish.
Since the weight is positioned on the swivel and below the line, the weight falls vertically to the bottom, leaving your bait suspended in the water column. Your bait will have more action with this rig than a standard Texas Rig.
I believe this presentation will take the place of a Texas Rig on hard structure and bluff walls. The Texas Rig will still excel in grass and punching through cover.
In the future, we will have another video showcasing all the ways you can utilize the Free Rig.

This was a very good explanation of this rig and you gave a great example on how to use it. I intend to use a double fluke rig, in conjunction with this, on a shorter leader than the "popular" one. The bait you selected to show in the video, IS a productive bait and I may choose to use it when I do my experiment. Liked the video.

Hybrid Texas/jika/Tokyo rig.... great versatility... you could throw a couple more pegs on it and move the weight up for a finesse Carolina rig. 👍

Yeah, you could, but why would you in this case? It's made to be a vertical target style of pitching...I'm not arguing that it could be done. It's just a great presentation for what it is.

Give it a try for sure! The fun part is that you can get pretty creative with what plastic you throw on it. You can go heavy for let's say Clearlake or go ultra finesse.

Looks great for the initial fall but it creates a significant amount of slackline (between the weight and hook/bait) which can hinder bite detection and hook-setting. Also, when you're reeling it in, dragging, hopping, twitching, etc. the bait and swivel with weight come together and will snag more than a t-rig with a bullet weight. The entire weight contraption drags under the bait unless you keep moving it and many times when fishing it's best to just stop and let the fish eat it. I'm sticking with my trusted and proven un-pegged and pegged t-rigs.

Kind of, but this set up allows the weight to slide much more free and the result is that your bait ends up a lot higher in the water column while the weight is on bottom. Then you can work your bait all the way down to the weight. It has been a very popular rig in Japan and is just coming to the US. If you use a floating worm, you can almost get it to suspend in the middle of the water column too.

What ever catches fish! I find that drop shot is good but if you do a dropper loop and use a 4-6 inch leader. It gives the bait a more dying action and get 5-10X’s more hook up. Could make a video but, too lazy. Lol
