Looks good! A suggestion for the left over brush. Put a pile of pallets on the ground, maybe 4-6 in a random pile and cover with the brush in a few different areas. This makes a good home for the rabbits.

It's likely I'm an outlier among your viewers - I'm a 65 y/o woman who bought an old farmhouse + 18 acres of land on an island off the coast of Maine a couple of years ago. I am in the process of cleaning up fallen trees, junk trees, etc. I am envious of all your toys. I have a lady-size chainsaw (12") so I have to hire someone with a bigger one for the large trees; perhaps I will graduate to a larger chainsaw as I become more experienced. I have an electric wood-splitter that is the most useful machine on my property. I heat my house with an antique wood cookstove so large pieces of wood don't fit or burn well. If I had my life to do over again I would work with wood - logging, cutting, splitting. It's my favorite activity on my property. Your videos are excellent - informative, interesting, and well-edited. Best of all, you are articulate. Thank you for the trouble you take to make quality videos.

Beech is good for many uses , it makes good secondary wood in cabinets for drawer sides and backs . It’s used in furniture frames and is excellent for tool handles nany of the old type wooden planes used beech . It turns will on a lathe for round work like bowls , it make good utensils like wooden spoons too.

Not to mention it's great for kitchen utensils. A friend of mine works at a traditional dutch wind powered sawmill and they traditionally waterlog their wood. Just throw it in the water for 2 years or so, especially when it's spalted, it makes for awesome looking wood and incredibility stable. Last run I made about 25 medium sized spatula's and my family members were so nice to rob me of my stash :D

What an amazing property to see. It is just getting better and better. I love the idea of camping on your own property. Safe place to go for the family and the children as they grow up but yet still close enough to be home to be safe and still as primitive or not as you want it to be....or maybe a few camping places. I love to see what is being done so thoughtfully into the generations to come.

Very nice job they did. You will find the habitat changing on your property as well, with the deer traveling a path of less resistance with less undercarriage. Those hardwoods are going to love the extra light and provide more forage as well. I think of these side benefits as an avid archery hunter🙂. If I drove past your property I would have wood envy with all those piles...Nice bud.

Nice property! The results look good. You can expect a bunch of beech regeneration to sprout up from the roots. The beech regen will likely dominate the understory in a few years. You will likely need to clean the understory with a brushsaw or that mechanical brusher or herbicides (basal bark with Garlon) in about 5 years or so. That way you can free any desirable species of regeneration from the beech. Your beech look nice and clean. In our area (Ontario) our beech are getting beech scale and beech bark disease. Great you do not have that in your area yet.

Adam, Like your channel ,been watching since the beginning. Beach makes great fire wood, it makes really good coals and a lot of heat. When you cut beach trees you should wait till the leaves are on. Once you cut the tree spray the stump with gylphosate, cheapest you can get. It stops the regeneration. One stump will grow one hundred new shoots or more. Keep the the videos coming.

If you do your logging in winter it saves getting mud plastered on your logs to dull your chain and annoy your customers. Limbs break off easier in the cold as well. Way less ground disturbance on the skid trail etc.

I like the fact that you are having the tops chipped, That only makes the soil better. I only wish that that was a requirement for all wood that is cut down. If you can make lumber or firewood it is a plus for the exercise and chipping the tops only makes sense. It looks like you have a number of hours producing firewood to fill your stands. Happy that you are making the decisions that you are doing with your homestead. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻Amen!!!

Adam, I think you'd be interested in what's called a Crawler Skid Excavator, made by Mecalac, it's an excavator, skid steer, and telehandler all combined in one, and it does all of those things well. I've seen it being used on a jobsite near me, they were using every feature of it. It has a boom made of multiple small sections, instead of one big arm, and it can flip its knuckle around to use it excavator or skid steer style (when in skid steer, it can rest the bucket against the blade to back it up with the frame of the machine). It's not a cheap machine, but it's really cool.

You’ve got a lot of hardwoods. I have mostly white pine… it’s high value for lumber, but not firewood! I wish I had more diversity - I’m working on that now. Fortunately there’s plenty of hardwood in our family’s 200 acre woodlot that my property abuts. Gotta love working (playing?) in the woods! Closing note: beech is dense like oak, but unlike oak is usually a nightmare to split for firewood… I like taking it when it’s still small (

Whew that is a pile or two of logs. As you were driving it still looked like some trees and potential firewood was left in the woods. With what you have in the wood yard what’s your plans for cleaning up the woods? Second question, in the little pocket you had them create it looks like just rough mulched it. What’s your plans for dressing that up to be maintained more easily?
