THIS is the New BMW M5 Competition! | TEST DRIVE

This is the new BMW M5 Competition and everything you could possibly want to know about it! From a full in-depth walkaround to pushing hard on the Ascari circuit and driving on mountain roads. The M5 Competition features a number of upgrades over the regular model, including a bump to 625hp, but how does that translate to the experience driving the super saloon?
Upon arrival at the Ascari Race Resort in southern Spain, we can quickly take an introduction to the new M5 Competition before it's time to prepare for the race track. Out on track it's giving chase to Joel Eriksson (BMW Works DTM driver), as we get to explore the different configurations and driving modes, before having a little bit of fun!
Getting back into the paddock, we have the opportunity to run over everything in significantly more detail; to discuss all of the changes and new features. Powered by the 4.4l Twinpower turbo V8, now making 625hp and 850nm, there is no question the pace is there, but is the driving experience?
To find out, let's also head out onto the local roads including some tight twisties to get a better feel in a more day to day environment. Upon return, lastly, it's time to explore the full interior in more detail to wrap up our full look at the new BMW M5 Competition.

Today was the first day I drove the 2019 M5. I also drove the competition as well (E63 AMG) Being a Mercedes guy, I have to admit that the M5 is better. thats a basic model they gave you, no massage or air con seats, no gesture, no 360 cam and you say it has adaptive cruise but it doesn't as no buttons on the wheel like my own m5 has, at least it has ceramics. I love my M5 comp, but had it mapped stage one after 3 months lol. 740 bhp now

The RPM limiter is not a permanent feature. With the M series vehicles, until you get your first oil change, the vehicle is limited in performance to ~75 percent of performance. This allows obviously time for breaking in the motor but also allow the driver to become accustomed to the vehicle before unleashing it's full wrath.

There are no limited till you have broken it in, it's also not restricted. Break in is just no more than 170 km/h / 5,500 rpm for first 2,000 km. I never tested it to the red line, but my father did by accident ... and I hit 210 km/h due to not paying attention ... for 20sec ... I also asked my BMW handler, and he told me there is no limiter on it, but that I would gain 50-75hp after break in period is over and fluids are flushed (why people see 615hp WHP / 700hp dyno with 15% drive train loss estimate). You can however feel that torque, seemed like I was in 6'th gear all the time, from 10mph to 182mph.

AWD would drop the time to 2.8 seconds. AWD in the AMGs seems to cut 0.5 sec from RWD.

Oops, it is AWD. At the redline the engine sounded like it was turning over at half those revs. I had a V8 like that once, each bank of cylinders was separately exhaust through extractors to lake side pipes, it had a low rumble, great in tunnels bouncing off the walls. I put in a crossover pipe and it changed the sound to a high revving V8.

I just turned in 18 AMG E63 S wagon for a fully loaded M5 (but not competition) a week ago. I indeed do feel the m5 is hair faster in acceleration. That was my 3rd E63 over almost a decade. This m5 provides impressive speed in a more gentle way. She can be very wild if choose so. I guess I am getting a bit older. Even I still like to drive very fast but now I choose to be in more “smooth” way of fast.......:)
