Don’t forget to routinely polish the leather to keep it moist and pliable. Old leather can easily get damaged if you don’t.

What a beautiful sentiment to repurpose something. It was used to carry supplies to heal people from war and now it carries supplies to create art, which also heals people as well, so it's purpose lives on!

As a Swiss, recognising the design, labels and utilities of this bag feels kind of heartwarming to know that it will keep helping people. It helped wounded soldiers on all sides during war, and now will help the world through art at your side.

@@oaf-77 Staying neutral also means you help everyone out, including in swiss organisations like the red cross who help wounded civilians and soldiers no matter their side in wars. Switzerland also defended itself from attacks meaning that medics are still required.

I bought a cold war era military surplus leather satchel in Berlin not long after the wall fell. When I carried it, it was always largely dedicated to a journal or notebook and plenty of writing/doodling supplies. I love that it has some history.

This has such a... Urban fantasy vibe to it that I can't help but instantly think up an entire character who is an artist, carrie's around that bag, but anything he draws becomes real life. I like that Idea.

If you ever decide to recreate this as an art tool merch in the future, this would honestly be your best seller. You can even personalized the surface of the bag with your own art. I swear artist people or not would love to purchase one. You are that awesome! ☺️

I dig leather products but I bet it'd sell even better with planet-friendly-fake-leather and/or canvas models. I personally favor canvas for jobs like this

​@@ItsAsparageese Agreed, leather is amazing and buying secondhand leather is cool, but I prefer not to buy _new_ leather products since that's more animals being raised and killed for their skins. Pleather is just plastic though, which is just as bad for the environment in the long run; but for uses like this, canvas would work great!

@@Orynae Agreed all around! I wish there were a good cheap durable leather alternative that relies on either biodegradable or at least wholly-recycled materials. If there is one in any popular usage, I haven't heard of it. But I'm all for getting life out of secondhand leather

As someone who loves history and medicine, I can't imagine taking the medical supplies out of that bag I would keep and preserve all of it. It's a part of history

Love how everything is sorted after use. Like the pencils are first for the the sketching, then the fineliners for inking, and then finally the watercolours for painting.

A little jelly, but, I'd need two. A second for colored pencils, pastel pencils, colored ballpoint pens, intense pencils, ink eraser, photo safe scotch tape, some sort of embossing tool, masking tape, glassine paper, vinyl gloves, and a sketchbook or two. Hence, I either carry a large bookbag or restrict myself to a sketch journal, colored pens/pencils, an ink eraser, embossing tool, tape, white gel pen, mini ruler, 1 outline pencil, 1 gum eraser, and a pencil sharpener. I can usually fit those in a small drawstring bag. 😉

If they ever put the bag in a museum, this would be a cool story. It was once owned by a war medic, then bought by an artist. I kind of want to know what will happen to it in the future.

i'm swiss and we still have leftover medical supplies that look exactly like the ones in the pictures in our medical cabinet. it's from my dad's military service in the 90s/00s and i guess they got to take some home lol
