For the markers: those markers seemed pretty bad because they were overfilled so they bled through easily, though I think the paper you used wasn’t ideal because it’s best to use smooth paper for markers. Also note that markers aren’t usually used to make realistic pieces, but rather more cartoonish styles

Be careful with the gel pens, it erase by applying heat (friction between the paper and the eraser), in France we can't use them for exams because if the teacher let them in their car in the heat for exemple, everything disappears ! So if you want a durable drawing or notes, don't use them, but you can use them to do a sketch, then ink everything and heat the drawing with a hairdryer ✨

we love u camileon ❤️ also, erasable pens typically work because the rubber erasers generate friction/heat as you rub across the paper! erasable pen ink typically is heat activated, so when you rub on the paper (and generate small amounts of heat from the friction) they erase!!

You should generally use either mixed media paper or dedicated marker paper for alcohol markers! They don't really work as well on any other paper, in a way they're similar to watercolours as you've observed. I've heard they can also work well on parchment/deli paper, and that would also be a cheap option. For blending, you have to go over the colours a bunch of times, that's why you need sturdy paper.

You are gonna have to buy good quality anyways on top of the crap that you will have to throw out and generate plastic waste and waste of shipping. So just buy the better quality if you plan on using it more than once, it's worth it and it will save your nerves too :)

Most of the bad reviews on art supplies are do to one of two things 1. Some ridiculous expectations of having ultra good quality items for $10 it's not realistic. 2. People using a medium for the first time and not doing some research on how do the supplies work and deciding right there that it has to be the horrible quality of those items. So yeah read the reviews it can be helpful but take everything woth a grain of salt... And make some reasearch on the medium beforehand 😊

I have those markers but with a like 150 pack and they dry out really quickly. To help stop the excessive bleeding I find it helpful if you just use them really lightly and quick for the smaller details. Also to blend you kinda have to keep going over and over the colors causing them to bleed together and blend! Overall I really enjoyed this video, and I would love to see you try out better alcohol markers in the future!

I work primarily in alcohol markers, and they come in that weird variety of colors because they want you to buy the bigger sets 😋 the first set I ever got when I was around 12 literally had no red😧 like none it was annoying because I remember having to layer the brighest pink and then orange until I got a somewhat reddish color. also to blend them you have to make sure you add your second color while the first one it still wet, or else it's just gonna spread and push the first color away and make that weird look you were struggling with🩷
@ghoulchan752510 ай бұрын
it also helps if you have the colorless blender to put down a wet layer first then quickly use the shades you want to blend. and sometimes you can rewet the area with it too.

The erasing of the pen works from heat from rubbing the rubber (lol) against paper. That’s why it doesn’t work when you try to slowly erase like you do with pencil
@Kalani_Saiko9 ай бұрын
This, I use those types of pens all the time (more for writing than drawing, mind you) and never had an issue erasing them on most papers. You also need to wait for the ink to dry before erasing or it will smudge.

I just found your channel randomly, and I wanted to let you know that I experienced the same existential crisis in design school. The assignments were ridiculous, bizarre, and seemingly meaningless. I enjoyed art and was good at it, but eventually I came to a point where I realized that design and art work is not for me, especially if it was going to resemble what we did in classes. Basically, my heart really desired to learn and do hard things (even if it was less "fun"). I'm not saying this is you, but I've been in your position before. In the end, I switched to mechanical engineering. It's like design- you still have to create to overcome problems, but the work is so much more rewarding and applicable. I'm not saying design work is not valuable, but if you're struggling with finding value with art, I would attempt to create for a different (potentially more physical, mechanical, dynamic) purpose. Mechanical Engineering is extremely difficult and it is not the walk in the park that design was- but I actually use what I'm learning irl and the way I perceive the world is changing because I'm starting to understand more of how things work. All I'm saying is that the designer to engineer pipeline exists 😎. You got this.
@michalmachart9 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for highlighting the comment! That's so sweet 😊. As a P.S. my comment was meant to encourage you wholeheartedly!! Here's a final thought: as an engineer, or other technical student, it would also be possible to graduate, but then decide to become a designer professionally. However, it wouldn't really be possible to go the other way (graduate designer, try to get an engineering job). This is just a little message to say "Try something new if you're feeling stuck!" 💖

The commission paid is to let the viewer know that if they the viewer bought the product through that particular video the creator will get a small percentage of that sell. Paid partnership is for those who was paid to make that video, or the company bought the video from the creator to use as an ad, or if you don’t have TikTok shop in your country then anything related to shopping through the app would be considered a paid partnership. The markers from tik tok almost look like the same exact brand that is usually sold at ROSS omg. They're not the best but are good for quick art/sketch, or blocking in large colors and such. Blending is like non existent but, when its the only thing you can afford, work with what you have right? I used them a lot in late middle school all throughout high school. I usually see them selling in bulk for like 14.99$ at ROSS so if you can't afford copic markers, I think they're an okay-ish alternative, just definitely not the best. Don't put high expectations and work with what you have, most importantly have fun!

For anyone thinking of getting the grabie paint markers, i would recommend NOT getting them. My issues with them: -I've noticed the color tends to separate? Idk how to describe it, but the color will be inconsistent. Like, I was coloring with a light purple once, and I noticed waaaay too late that the color of the ink had changed while I was using it? I had to give it a good shake before it changed back to its initial shade. Honestly, sometimes even when I give the pen a shake, it'll still come out inconsistent, and I have to repeat the process tons of times to get it to work. This happens at anytime, whether I'm in the middle of using them or haven't used them in awhile. Doesn't matter. - the tips dry out way too easily. I'm constantly having to pump the pens. I'm not sure if there is something going on with the material of the tip or if maybe these pens just have awful ink flow?? Either way, it makes for a very frustrating experience. -they do not layer well. I don't know why they struggle to layer, but I've found I can barely add a second layer. All in all, I've seen very mixed reviews across the board. Some really like these paint makers and have a *fantastic* experience with them. Others do not (like me). This makes me think there may be some inconsistency in production and very poor quality control issues. Honestly, I'd recommend saving your money for another paint marker and skip over these :/

@wintersprite6 ай бұрын
Alcohol markers tend to bleed through a lot of types of papers. Some thicker ones like marker paper and bristol paper are better for alcohol markers if you don’t want bleed-through. Also, for blending, you have to go over the two colors more than just one basic swipe through. You have to go back and forth a bit and can keep layering them since they draw quickly. Alcohol markers are best for illustrations that will become prints and not for selling as original artwork because they are not lightfast. I haven’t tried the Touch brand but have a bunch of Copics and some Ohuhu; I prefer the brush nibs rather than bullet nibs. I just saw a video from Chloe Rose Art and I guess Grabie also has some brush marker nibs for their paint markers. I have some Pilot FriXion gel pens which are similar to the ones you got. Your artwork came out nicely!
