Glasgow Subway is the third oldest system in the world and notably never being expanded. The system is 6.5 miles (10.5Km) long

I remember going on the Glasgow underground as a kid and it was fantastic.. I love trains and that subway is amazing now its all been done up. The sound of the electric motor and the squeaky brakes I remember, is it still called the clock work orange?

Yup. Clockwork Orange.

One item left unmentioned, was the fact, that the line,as built, was cable operated, complete with grips, and steam power! Totally unique, and found nowhere else! The only comparable operation, was the late, lamented Brooklyn Bridge cable operated elevated shuttle service! Later that was replaced by electric through services by the Brooklyn Rapid Transit Company, and there were through Long Island Railroad operations to the Rockaways! Joint services were done, and it was intense! Now,Brooklyn Bridge has NO TRANSIT, OR BUS SERVICES AT ALL OPERATED OVER IT! ONLY BRIDGE WITH THAT TITLE! A trifle of a side note!! Thank you,Tim,most interesting video!! Thanks again 👍!

Some of the platforms look surprisingly narrow. Is it quite safe ?

Jeez! It's changed (in appearance, anyway)! It was the first underground I'd ever been on and I thought it was pretty cool. I was there in 1973-74 from Monterey, CA and they had the old style cars. You know, square shaped with the wooden frame interior and floors. I immediately started thinking I would see an old Sherlock Holms walk aboard. Yeah, I know. Victorian era history was confusing to me. But my imagination was unbridled! And they still had those big old light bulb fixtures instead of the flourescent tubes and the old smoke darkened tile on the walls. It was gloriously underlit (sp)!

It is an interesting subway, tiny and cute. Even smaller than LU deep level lines. As a Hong Konger, like typical big Asian cities, we have busy stations with long trains, it is a big contrast compared to the clockwork orange. I'm glad we also have Metro Cammell trains in Hong Kong, and will be retired in coming years unfortunately.

Glasgow has the largest rail network outside london in the UK. Also, the underground only covers the centre of glasgow, small part of the south and a reasonable amount of the west of the city. The north and the east dont have the underground

Glasgow has a small population, rush hour isn't that bad to be honest considering there are buses and train lines above the surface as well.

Greater Glasgow has at least 1.2 million people and goes up to 1.7 depending on what the metropolitan area is considered to be. The Subway doesn’t have much of a rush hour as it doesn’t cover vital commuting paths, but trains can get quite crowded and they are vital to Glasgow. The city has the second largest urban rail network in Britain outside of London with around 170 stations of which roughly 60 are in the city proper.

Hi, Tim! I've watched many of your videos and find them to be very interesting, informative and well filmed. There's one tip from me: could you film the ticketing process (or film it in more details) in your next videos? I mean ticketing in Rapid Transit Systems. It's always interesting to know how different systems control how their users pay for the rides. Well, it's simple with subways, but not so simple with trams where people can simply pass to a station without coming through a tourniquet. Although, I think, it would be interesting to watch the operation of various rapid transit systems during a rush hour.

Опасные платформы, очень узкие. Интересно, а больше народа бывает, чтобы в вагоне стояли? И как на платформе люди расходятся, когда два поезда одновременно.

The carriage is decorated to mimic the livery of the original Glasgow Subway trains from 1896. Note that the logo on the neighbouring carriage at 6:51 says "Celebrating 120 years of Subway". You can see that text again on the end of the carriage a few seconds later.
