Even though I'd love them to do TBC again, I don't think they will sadly. They neglected TBC classic when it relaunched and subs fell, and their reading of that was that allegedly "TBC was a failure", when the only failure was that they added paid boosts and bots ruined the game. I would also love them to do progression servers that roll the first three expansions on a 2 year cycle per expansion. The problem with doing that right now is that people are kinda burnt out from vanilla: We've had TOO MUCH vanilla for the past year. I think something that would be nice to do would be TBC era right away: Have a 2-3 month phase with the dark portal locked and lvl capped to 60 (instead of a two week long prepatch), and then do every single other phase on a 3-4 month gap depending on the phase (kara lasting 3 months I feel it's okay, SSC/TK I would give it some more time, and so on). That would be the tits. Please, streamers and players alike, lets let our voices be heard. The TBC crew needs a cookie.

SoD phase 1 was fantastic. The problems mainly started with phase 2. Nobody wanted to raid Gnomeregan. It should have been a Scarlet Monastery raid instead. There was too much stat inflation and too many new abilities from runes. Players were doing too much damage relative to the amount of stamina on gear. Battlegrounds were unplayable solo because of premades. They added an artificial damage reduction in PvP instead of balancing the stats properly. The Bloodmoon event should have been designed around roaming around the zone, not gathering in one spot. Raids should have stayed as 10 mans. World Buffs should be disabled in raids.

Classic was a scam. There, I said it. They released Classic without even solving the problems for the biggest issues in WoW. Modern RPGs have solved many issues WoW has, games like Lost Ark, Final Fantasy 14, etc... Yet, what did they do? A few minor changes, milking xpansion after xpansion, doing practically the same thing they did before. They conned the consumer in buying their game and xpansions for a second time. What a scam.

@@gustanoid - Sure. Some context, I have over 1k hours in Lost Ark as a F2P player and that was my threshold on patience from getting stonewalled over and over again. So let's get it straight I'm no fan of the game's business model, however, I am a fan of the game's gameplay, systems and mechanics. A big problem in MMO's is how difficult it is to get 10 or 25 people to raid (and other content) and PuG these things. In Lost Ark, you can solo content or group up for the content, aside from Dungeons and Boss fights which are not solo'able due to some mechanics needing more players. As a solo player, you have easy access to pug a dungeon/raid (given you meet the criteria in terms of gear for the specific content you're pugging). And this is possible because the boss fights were telegraphed properly. You didn't really need to have the whole team on discord and coordinate beforehand. Despite big mechanic complexities, they were so well designed visually along with clear telegraphs, there wasn't a need for using 3rd party software to aid gameplay (EG: discord, mods, addons). And this makes it easier to pug content. Another big issue with MMO's like WoW is the impossible task of balancing PvP and PvE. Often times leaving 1 aspect completely neglected or overpowered. Lost Ark has solved this issue, in quite a simple manner. Gear doesn't matter in Lost Ark PvP. Everyone has the same stats, end of. The only thing that matters is skill. That levelled up the playing field. It won't matter if you're a whale or you're F2P, in the arena you're all equal. Thus making skill the only thing that matters. Stuff like, do you know your class well? Do you know how other classes fight? How to counter this or that? PvP in Lost Ark is fun asf, and you can't hide behind your microtransactions or your end game gear. Last example cos this is getting quite lengthy. Power creep and the irrelevancy of old content in WoW. They put so little thought in this, at some point players were lvl 120 with millions of health doing a bazillion damage. Numbers were getting ridiculous so much that they had to do a level squish. Another quick bandaid and just shows they have no idea how to address this issue. In Lost Ark, you reach 70 and that's it. You have to lvl up your gear instead. Honing is actually a great system in its foundation, but got ruined by the gamble-like aspects and paywalls. But the idea that you improve your gear far beyond the base is genius in an MMO. And that makes it so that old content is still relevant and you could always find a reason to do them that will help you increase the power of your character, whether it be in mats and gold for honing, or engravings etc. And when you do old content, it's not some roll face 3 shot boss kill like it is in WoW. It's still challenging and fun. Anyway, I wanted to expand more, but it's getting way too long. Hope this helps you understand what I meant.

That og NE turning into a cat makes me still want to play this game. Sadly even Classic was playing one of the later patches. Weapon speeds normalised, hunter pets normalised etc. They promised no changes but returned it to a state where it was far less fun that it was originally. Weapon speed was a major thing. Blues could easily out dps for abilities vs even epics. Hunter pets used to be so rich and varied and the rare tameable ones used to have some op buffs.

The issue imo is that they were like "let's make a theme park like ascencion!" and like... that is not classic+. If they are going to get "inspired" by a server to do "classic+" it's basically turtle wow. TBC is TBC. You can instantly tell is a different experience (not better or worst just different) as soon as you get to the first quest hub. There are quest hubs now! So esentially go to this place, pick everything, go to the place where EVERY quest complete, and go back. This is fine, I really like TBC and after classic, is my second favorite expansion in terms of gameloops and what not. But still, classic does need that "this is a huge as place and every quest has a potential to be a fucking adventure that will not take you 5 min to complete alongside with the other ones."

But the main jizt is that at least for me, the half implementation of ascencion mechanics plus the other stuff they added they just didn't fit with the world. (To be fair, retail is a theme park, the point is that classic is far from that). But you know, different people like classic for different things so I'm sure there are people that actually like the game loops and powergaming of classic and 100% don't give a fuck about the "rpg" aspect of it or whether or not new additions fit with the scenery that was already there.

Wrath pre-patch during TBC classic was when classic WOW peaked for me. I tried playing wrath but it didn't feel like classic for me on the same way as vanilla and tbc. Yes i know Wrath is very far from retail. But wrath is when the leveling process etc... started to feel like it's a chore and only done to so you can start to raid log. If i want to raid log or parse, I go play retail. I go run M+ which is why like retail. What i loved about classic (vanilla and tbc) was the atmosphere of the zones, leveling and wrath lacked that for me.

I'm personally attached to wrath so i might be biased, but i feel like cataclysm is where i would draw the line for what is classic and what is "retail", even though there's a lot of differences between cata and retail.

Also one of the main reasons we got SoD instead of true Classic+ is the entire philosophy behind Blizzard's game design. The original Vanilla was designed on the shoulders of the greatest fantasy pillars in the world at the time, LoTR and D&D. I would wager all I own that not a single person calling the shots regarding SoD design knows what the true essence of Vanilla WoW is supposed to be, but there is a solution to it. Just go back to the roots, start from scratch, lets go back to Orcs vs Humans and create fresh storylines from there.

I absolutely love TBC, it is by far the best version of WoW; but it's not Classic+ Classic+ shouldn't have vertical progression added to it, only horizontal, meaning no higher level cap, no items better than Naxx items. Instead it should have more zones for all levels, so that you're not forced to do 10-20 in barrens, 20-30 in hillsbrad, etc. etc. (greatly simplified, but you know what I mean), items should not be better, or the numbers just get too ludicrous, instead items should allow for more variety of playstyles, fill niches better, stuff like that. SoD did actually have some good thoughts there but just didn't have the budget/team size to do it right, so they did the best they could and it just came out *ok* . SoD isn't great, but it's not as awful as many make it out to be. In any case I think Turtle WoW does many of those things right and while Blizzard shouldn't copy exactly what they did, they should learn a few lessons.

P1 had promise. The search for runes was fun and added to the class fantasy. Some of them added to the game with new roles for existing classes... But... They were ridiculously unbalanced and overall overpowered. For many classes they trivialized the gameplay outside the single raid. Trivializing the leveling to get into the endgame is like the opposite of what I wanted from an improved Vanilla WoW

I've played this game far more than any reasonable person should. So much that I would say it is a part of my identity at this point. I had more fun with WoW than with any other game and I still play retail, even tho it is more of a habit at this point than true enjoyment. And I gotta say, I want an mmo that captures some of the essence that WoW used to have. But I don't want it from Blizzard, because I know they can't do it. I want something from any other studio.

I want a hardcore (not that one) leveling season. Buff mobs, slow leveling a bit, and add more quests to make up for the lack of xp, but i dont believe blizzard is capable of making adventureous quests to hold a candle to some of vanillas

Really reduce xp from mobs to dissuade farming and force people to do quests. Maybe streamline some of the quests so it guides you on a few paths to get through each continent. I know it wouldn't be popular, but make dungeons able to be run only once. The upside is you have a quest for each boss and get to choose the loot reward, so no RNG for that one piece.

@AzAMOuS Ithink Blizz should launch the next SoD, but this time with the philosophy of "Minimum Necessary Changes" (c) - I. Azimov. By MNC I mean that the changes should be as small, as possible, but have the most impact. Examples: 1. "Boomkins are terrible as DPS, so instead of buffing their damage, let's decrease mana costs and add some mana regen". 2. Prot Palas are awesome, but are not viable as tanks, so let's give them a taunt. 3. Black Lotus and Devilsaur Leather are prone to being abused with "mafia" and botters, so let's introduce other ways to obtain them Another good step would've been to scrap all recipes, schematics, formulas, etc and introduce new/different reagents, add Tier sets for offspecs, provide better healing and caster DPS itemization for Plate, Chainmail, and Leather armour. This way we'd play a familiar Classic plus, but without established guides, runbooks and would have to figure out a lot of new stuff by ourselves.

The issue with Classic+ raids is where do you put them? Before MC - invalidates MC loot. Before BWL - invalidates BWL loot. Before AQ - invalidates AQ loot. etc. The only real place they can actually put a full on new raid for classic would be post-naxx; everything else would ruin the itemization quite dramatically.

In order for Classic+ to be successful you need a dedicated and passionated dev team and give it time to being made well. Any half-assed approach will fail and considering how small and split the classic dev team is on already multiple projects, I fear we'll just get more SoD "reused/reimagined" content. I often hear many say, all from the devs, to a known content creator down to the players themselves "what is C+?" Well C+ is all about expending on already existing world and lore. Meaning more NEW raids, dungeons (BGs?) and so on. Lots of empty spaces. Maybe some minor class tweaks like better mana regen for Spriests/boomies, taunt to paladins and such. Aggrend openly supports wow token and RDF fyi. Its safe to say that most Classic players would agree on: 1) No wow token. 2) No level boost. 3) No exp buff. 4) No flying mounts. 5) No RDF with instant teleport to dungeons (grp tool is fine). Lastly, I also hear quite often "I hope we get C+ next year after SoD ends around summer". Be careful what you wish for! C+ release early/mid 2025 means LITTLE TIME to make it = could fail.

i think you're being way too hard on season of discovery. i'm a vanilla andy and i personally really enjoyed my time in SoD from the moment I entered world on my first character to my first molten core. never been a huge raider so i put it on the shelf after that. i think its a wild difference between PvE and PvP and your enjoyment of the game will vary depending on which of those aspects of the game you engage with. i never touched PvP in SoD so I can't speak for that, but the PvE aspect was really solid imo.

The biggest problem is lack of GMs for stopping bots and allowing massive exploitation at the beginning of phases for the "hardcore players" but then farms being patched when the masses get there. If you didn't make the game your job you were months behind.

SoD felt like they had only planned out phase 1 and all the next phases were just done on the fly. Phase 3 personally killed off any desire to play SoD with class changes through runes (especially hunter) and even when i tried to get into it in P4, it was just less fun than normal classic. Also, they did not honour classic at all with most of the changes, which makes the gameplay feel more like wotlk/cata with classic content

8:20 actually kinda off about that the overall higher ups at Jagex were doing the same thing trying to convert players to rs3 for a long long time however within the last year or two they started putting more focus on osrs The main thing is that rs3 players spend roughly 3-5 times as much as osrs players since osrs players can ONLY buy membership and bonds while rs3 is extremely heavily mtx focused and RS3 whales spend a ton of keys to gamble

I love TBC, but i think a second release need more than just raid wide bloodlust. Group wide buff can be really frustrating. If you're a DPS and you stuck with the healers, you're not going to have a good raid night. I think most buff should be raid wide, not just bloodlust Also, i will advocate for a sual spec. It might reduce a bit the shortage of tank and healer for 5-man, but perhaps more importantly, it would make raid night more fun for off tanks. There is little more frustrating to be the second or third tank on a fight that only need one. Also, this time around, since the numbers are known, blizzard has all the parse thhy need from the first iteration of TBC, they can tweak a few number here and there to balance the class. Finally perhaps some minor improvement to some class, not sod style, but minor. Like paladin getting a taunt or steady shot not clipping autoshoot.

Group stacking was by far the most cancer aspect of raiding for me. Don’t have enhance shaman that week and suddenly you’re hitting like a wet noodle. They need to make buffs raid wide so every guild isn’t forced to find so many shamans. Also rotating shamans in and out for Bloodlust was also cancer.

Sorry for long post but, as a preface. I went from a casual player to hardcore raider with the release of TBC classic (tbc hype). That being said. I never dove super deep into vanilla or classic endgame and even like 50+ content, so I've enjoyed the fuck outta SOD in part from sheer novelty. That being said my main beef with SOD is that the devs see a little nail and repeatedly break out the sledgehammer. Leveling a bit slow and mounts are expensive? Incursions. Gotta get to rank 13 and WSG and AB aren't super popular? 15x mark honor. Players might feel slightly rushed? Extend the phase and then invalidate most of the gear anyway. Maybe that last one is nit-picking but it is what it is. This is reflected in the class changes and runes too. As much as I'm able to look past some of the past mistakes and current shortfalls and focus on all the friends I've made, I think Azamous is just right on the whole in his opinion on how SOD has gone.

Jagex used to be like that, but Sailing shows their shift towards being more Blizz-like these days. Intentionally changing the rules on community voting to force Sailing into the game despite it failing to meet the minimum % requirement to pass. Classic "change the goal posts" tactic. They completely disregarded the player-base with that move, solely because they invested too much into its development before even allowing us to vote on it, and couldn't handle the losses if it failed to pass (which is what happened).

S tier expansion is for you TBC same as for me and that's because everything was brand new and exciting when we actually enjoyed the game learning about MMORPG. But for most players, it's also their "starting expansion" One will say MoP was best, and Cata was best cause it's best for them. TBC was the best experience but WOTLK was absolutely BIS for lore and they will never ever again beat that lore around Prince Arthas in some perspective it is similar to the story of Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars, that's what made them great.

ive been doing nothing but playing vanilla since 2019 and i think season of discovery is faithful to vanilla.(not incursions at launch, but incursions in their current state are fine as a daily) if we dont get kharazhan during naxx then ima be disappointed. i think they should continue doing seasons, but also have a perma classic era+ server where they add additional seasonal stuff to the perma server.
