I moved in with someone with a 9-year-old Golden Retriever. She will ram the door with her head and go down the street. This and the last 2 videos were made for me and her. :) Thank you.

Sounds good! How does your dog do on leash? If they are super excited it can help a lot to practice some loose leash walking first in order to get them calmer and more responsive.

GOOD JOB ❤. I dog went to K9 off leash! But now. 😮 she still knows commands, but I'm glad you went through the recall again. She's gonna need that. especially after surgery 😢, she needs to be still for some time.

Oh man. I'm sorry to hear about your dog. It can be tough to keep them calm while still making their life fulfilling when they aren't allowed to exercise much. What kind of surgery does she need?

@Suburban K9 Dog Training. Knee, the cap seems it came way out of place (out of cartilage. She is SUPER hyper, she is a mix of pit/collie (b4 breakfast she has her toy in mouth and at bedtime she has me playing catch at 1am. Lol) 😬. You know you guys are also close to my house. I was going to call for a refresher on ecollar, and then I was told she had another refreshing that came with the guarantee of the BT. 🤷‍♀️ thank u for asking, I will definitely keep watching the videos, I can definitely use it with Avah-Shen 🐾 especially the recall😬. Thank u for asking. Blessing with this channel and the K9 company!

@@godwarriorheaven6496 Good luck with the surgery! It might be worth coming up with a plan for things you can do to keep her busy that aren't highly active. Snuffle mats and other interactive toys could be a good option. You could also teach her nose work so that she can use her brain without having to use her body too much.

Loved this! Could you do another video addressing this problem but with a tiny dog? I have a client with a tiny dog who is a door bolter. I have already done some desensitization to door opening and treats for [dog] staying back, but family was unsuccessful. For now I've asked the family to use a cable, tied to table leg, that does not go past the threshold (when there is action at the door) so as to prevent the dog from rehearsing a bad habit. Per owner, dog wants to chase cows. I've addressed the cow problem through desensitization about 5 feet away from penned cattle and rewarding dog for looking away, blah blah blah. In terms of the door work, I still feel more work is needed, but I'm concerned the little dog could sneak out using maneuvers in your video. Thoughts?

Hi Dorothy! I love the idea of doing a video like this with a very small dog! The techniques change some but it is very similar overall. If you are worried about the dog sneaking through it helps to have someone hiding outside that can jump in front of the dog and stop them if they sneak by you. Hopefully that is something the family could practice with you!

My husky bolts out the door and door work has helped a lot. Unfortunately sometimes she gets super excited and seems to forget her training. This is the first video that taught me how to train an excited dog. We have bunnies and squirrels in our yard and she just loses it with the wildlife. She once bolted to chase a damn grasshopper . Hopefully using toys, guests, or other dogs as a training tool will stop her impulse to chase every living thing in a ten block radius.

@kyrus4989 HAHA re: the grasshopper. 🤣🦗 My 2 dogs in my profile would chase a squirrel and they were stronger than me... so it looked like this: Dogs spot squirrel. We all 3 leave the sidewalk in hot pursuit. We'd scale the nearest pine tree together & sit from the lowest branch as the squirrel points and laughs from the next tree over. 🤣(jk) Best of luck w your husky!

Great video! We just adopted a 6 year old miniature dachshund and she loves to bolt out doors, I'm terrified she'll get lost or get hit by a car if she gets out. Since she's so short and small (and quick, my gosh those short little legs are fast! She can just zip right around and through legs faster than anything I've seen), would this same technique be used? The only part of our leg she really comes up to is the ankle and we can't use the rest of the leg/knee to push her back, I worry she'll just be able to dart right around our ankles and out the door.

We use this same technique with little dogs, but there are a few things you can do to make it safer. First, teach her the heel command. Once she is calmer and listens better she will be less likely to bolt through the door. You can spend a few days practicing heeling in and out of the door to establish some control. Once you are ready to work on the boundaries you can have her drag a short leash in order to have an easier time stopping her if needed. You can also have a family member hiding outside that can stop her if she bolts through the door. Let us know what questions you have as you get started!

We have a bulldog puppy who keeps running out the door soon as it open and constantly have to chase her threw the Yard’s. We just moved into a new community and they will ask us to get rid of her if we don’t get it under control so we are willing to try anything right about now! But because she’s a bulldog and is around 8/9 months old she will bulldoze her way out the door which won’t be tolerated. My family is at the point they are considering having to rehome her as she just won’t listen no matter what we try to teach her.

How does she do on a leash? The heel command is very calming and is the foundation for other commands and behaviors. A dog that can heel perfectly will be much easier to control in other situations. Here is a video that should be helpful. kzbin.info/www/bejne/epXIeaWZadV2o6M

This is a smart, naturally chill dog you are training with here. You know Taz, from Loony Toons? Well that is the energy of my new pup. I dare you to try this with my 7mo old Boston Frenchie. This vid would look a bit different. 😂 I kid, but last night was scary. He slipped past me, out the front door and into the dark night! I handled it so poorly. I was in full on panic. I watched helplessly as my visa card with a collar ran away and toward the road. We did get him back but it took 2 ppl. and now I'm online so someone can help train ME, so that never happens again. Thank you for posting these training vids! Feel free to comment under mine, any other suggestions to help me. What would you do if your dog bolts out the door FAST, at night? Thanks! 😊(Keri)
@SuburbanK9DogTraining

Sounds like you have a handful Keri 😁. I would start with leash training and teaching your pup a solid heel command. This helps calm them down and makes the next steps easier. Here is a video showing that process. kzbin.info/www/bejne/epXIeaWZadV2o6M Then I would work on come using a long line. Here is a video showing how we do that. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hl7bmmmejs2nq8k Here is a video with a pup showing a similar process but without treats. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKTYm4OllLV1ptU Once you have started both of those commands I would practice heeling and long line come in the front yard so that your pup learns the front yard is a training zone and learns how to listen there. After a few weeks of that the front door issue will be as easy as it was in this video. Let us know what questions you have after watching these!

@@SuburbanK9DogTraining Thank you, thank you! I'm so grateful for your help! New subscriber here (obviously). You make it look so easy. Lol I took a long time training them to allow me to do their nails. A week on just handling the paws without the drummel. Then a week with the unit off, and holding each toe, etc...Now, they run up all excited to have their nails done. (2 kibbles per toe, very exciting🤣) Too funny. (I had an english bully years ago that would bite us) so this was huge for me. Thanks again for helping/answering me. You are such a great person! 🤗

@@SuburbanK9DogTraining Do you have any vids on what to do if you're out walking (a smaller dog under 30 pounds) and a large aggressive (Pitbull) comes loose to bolt for attack? It happened last Oct. (I actually knew my window was about 5 seconds long as the pitbull slid to a stop & assessed my dogs). I wouldn't allow them to make eye contact. I sweet talked the pitbull, "Hey buddy, we're cool" and turned my dogs completely around, "Leave it. Away. Follow." Thank God it worked but the weather was crazy and I probably got a free pass bc they were only babies. I've searched the net for something to carry, like an air can , or a pop up umbrella. Not sure if that would make things worse or better. Scariest thing I've faced in my lifetime of parenting pups. I'm going to sit and walk through your vids 1x1 because my pups are under 7mo now and I need more training. Life was so much easier when I had my 15yr old mini-bulldogs (profile pic) but they both passed within 3 weeks of each other. (Ouch. My heart. 💔). Thanks again for your awesome channel. 🤗

Thanks for subscribing and welcome to the channel! Off leash dogs can be scary for sure! Air horns and pepper spray are two good options for keeping yourself safe. We have a short video on how to handle a dog attack. The basic premise is to be loud/tough/scary in order to back the dog down. This is a last resort and is done once the dog has decided to actually attack. The horn and spray help deter a lot of dogs and prevent them from getting close enough to consider attacking. If my pup was little I would pick him up with one hand and focus on defending with the other. I hope that never happens to you again!

If the issue is mainly when you are walking then I would focus on teaching a solid heel command. Here is a video on that topic. You can use any collar type you want, the training skills will be the same. kzbin.info/www/bejne/epXIeaWZadV2o6M

She was actually very new to our training program when the video was shot. She had training on heel, sit and stay but this was the first time we worked on the door. Once we make a lot of progress on heel and the basic commands it makes the dog much calmer and allows training like this to go much smoother.
