Here is nothing “bizarre”a bout Tim Hill’s motion. He is a classic side-armer. Sidearm motions have been a normal part of baseball for more than 100 years, before the foolish drive for velocity and conformity took over and made baseball boring. Kent Tekulve, Jim Bunning, Walter Johnson, Satchel Paige, Don Drysdale, Ewel Blackwell, Kent Tekulve. The list goes on.
@Engine33TruckАй бұрын
Very true. But in the day of velocity and conformity, sidearm pitchers - or generally pitchers who focus on control and technique - are becoming a rarity. But a very welcome sight.

Technically its his arm slot. His delivery remains consistent with other side throwing pitchers, however what makes Hill unique is the arm slot he throws from. It has been near unbeatable with the Yankees. I saw him pitch live a few times this season at Yankee stadium and was glad they picked him up.

This delivery is ideal if it works for them... Often i would mix up angle of deliveries, a two seam fb delivered somewhere between side arm and 3/4 doubled as a screwball, a slider/change up can act as an ephus, and a curveball at sidearm was just like a tailing sinker aka death pitch ti each their own lets go yankees lets go

0:58 Did I just see Tim field a chopper back to the mound and then throw it side arm/submarine over to the first baseman ? Maybe the camera quality fooled me because almost no sidearm pitchers I can think of field and throw to first like that because "confusing opposing hitters GOOD.. confusing your first baseman BAD... in fact VERY BAD if pitching in a world series. I pray as a Yankees fan I didn't just jinx the guy but unless he has some yips like issues which make throwing it to first that way for him " the lesser of two evils" so to speak it seems like a future disaster from him doing that is inevitable
