@@PixlyPenguin eh the beginning literally started you up with resource gathering, a deserted island, crafting, no stores, no anything. It was made to start as little animal crossing like as possible. Which is a shame because it’s kinda the reason that later in the game when it tries to be like animal crossing, it just isn’t.

I think all it really needed was deeper dialogue for the villagers. Since every iteration of Animal Crossing had different features from the one before it, I could live with all the other things it did different from its predecessors. But I miss the feeling of accomplishment I got in the older games when the cranky villagers actually started liking me. In New Horizons, everyone started out nice.
@PleunPiek
@PleunPiek Жыл бұрын
It's because of the lack of dialogue, events, special npc's and holidays. But mainly it's the ability of the player. In every past AC game you were a villager/mayor in a town and just like in real life when you want to change something you gotta pay for it. Small things like projects that you can issue a construction for or bridges, fountains etc. That made it "offcial" sort of speak in a municipality kind of way. Now with New Horizons, you can place furniture outside everywhere, you can literally create water and cliffs out of nothing. You can do as you please without limits. Now what does that make you? Island Representative? Or a "god"? And what happens to the whole dynamic of the game which used to be just another villager, with maybe some power in ACNL? Right, it changes. I didn't feel part of my village because it feels more like i'm playing some building sim in which I can change perspective. Sure you can put on different clothes and interact with villagers (with repetative dialogue). But it doesn't change the fact you're not living an ordinary life in your town. Because they have expanded so much on the building aspect of the game it's now the main thing you do, where as in past games it's just another thing you can do. The whole game revolves around it, that's why if you're not as invested in making your dream island by changing everything. There isn't enough left to consider it a full game, and that part that is left when taking away the building/customization aspect of the game is the essence of the Animal Crossing series. It's supposed to be a second life that you live and being able to customize everything that you please undermines that concept. Just as in real life, things just happen beyond your control with or without you and this was the case in past Animal Crossing games. You missed a day? A villager could leave, plants could wither and you could miss something that villagers where up to. In New Horizons the game basically stops when you don't do anything. Villagers don't leave, plants are always perfect but they multiply within a day when it rains which is also weird. The first line of the gamecube trailer states: "A realtime game that happens every second of every day." And quite frankly I don't feel that with New Horizons. I could make a 50 minute video essay of all the faults this game has but you get the jist of it.

I personally hold a lot of praise for wild world on the simple premise that it introduced custom ground tiles. Woah this was fast. I thought it city folk was the worst because it didn't capture... npcs right. Like. Idk people in the city didn't seem right. In New horizons all npcs seem like they usually do. From a person who only played gc, city folk, and new horizons. The quality of new horizons makes it my favorite. Nostalgia included, it was everything I wanted a newer animal crossing to be- compared to the gamecube version. City folk felt too different, and even still, is something I don't think I would go back to. I don't think after new horizons I could go back to any other animal crossing. Even the ones for the ds and such. The only thing that upsets me about new horizons is, from what I remember the gamecube version - Personalities of individual characters. They all just seem kind of the same. So I picked my favorite character of each type, and Two extras.

Honestly, even after all of the blunders each mainline game has, Wild World is still my least favorite to this day. It felt so stripped down even for a portable Nintendo game in the sense that your town lacks land layers and numerous iconic holidays, your housing options are so limited (and I'm not just talking about the removal of the basement), getting Mario Items required online, etc. There's a lot more I have to pick out of the bone, but the only good thing I can give Wild World the cookie for is its villager dialogues. Overall, whereas each mainline entry (localized, never played the original N64 game) made me play them for at least a year, Wild World lasted me only one month before dropping it as a whole. I was disappointed. And contrary to the crowd, while I'll admit that it isn't "great", City Folk gave me that more "complete" experience I wanted out of Wild World.

Wild World was my first and I have so many fond memories with that game. I had one friend playing it at the same time and being able to play together back then was just magical. The villager dialogue was also fantastic which I really hope they continue to improve on for the next game. I didn't play much City Folk just due to being busy but really enjoyed New Leaf. New Horizons was also good but it honestly felt the most...formulaic, maybe? Somewhere in the transition it just didn't quite keep the same charm, so I'm hoping the next engry brings more of that back.

When I was a kid I played a lot of Wild World, but when I got City Folk I only played very little of it... And I did enjoy all the new content, but in my opinion it just has one big disadvantage: It's not on a mobile console. To me, Animal Crossing games are for playing a little bit every day. Being able to quickly pick up the console when in the mood or you have some free time, or playing in bed in the evening... I often felt like it wasn't worth switching on the TV and the Wii, getting out the Wiimote and the Nunchuk, just for a short playsession, especially when you live with other people who want to use the TV as well.

I fell in love with Animal Crossing when it came out on the GameCube. One of the things I enjoyed was the way the villagers could say what they felt like even if it wasn’t very nice. It was funny. I’ve played all of the Mainline series. I didn’t own City Folk but my friend has it. I was never good at handling the Wii note so I didn’t play much. I love the entire series although something’s I wish hadn’t been changed like lost or borrowed items in the GameCube. I think the previous games were more or a challenge and were a lot of fun. I’m not bashing New Horizons,have 2 Switches & 6 characters and I’m the only player. Still love New Leaf & playing games on the island. Love that we could use multiple cartridges with the same DS.

As someone who only owns New Leaf and New Horizons, both games are really good, however, even if I played it less than New Horizons, New Leaf is my favourite Animal Crossing game. New Horizons isn't bad at all, but there are too many flaws with it. For example, duplicates in villager hunts, duplicate DIY recipes, severe lack of mini games, fishing tourneys and bug-offs are garbage (you heard that right!), SUCKERFISH, no more updates, jock dialogue (omg muscles 🤮🤮🤮), dialogue repetitiveness, no hide-and-seek (WHY 🤬😭), the lack of usefulness for special characters like Gracie and Brewster (he serves you coffee and that's it 🤷🏻‍♂️), 2PM music (🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮 my poor ears), and finally... *Why so many underrated/unpopular cute villagers? Give my girl Tasha more love plz!!!*

I think one reason why AC City Folk didn't get much praise at the time of it's release was the fact that it was unveiled at Nintendo's infamous E3 2008 presentation. While the AC City Folk segment did go into a lot of detail about the game and was put together well, most Nintendo fans were expecting something along the lines of the next big Mario, Kirby, or Zelda game. Instead, they got this, Wii Music, Shaun White Skateboarding, and the Wii Speak accessory. The fans weren't happy, and the Nintendo E3 2008 show still gets routinely mocked to this day. As for my personal experience, AC City Folk was the first game in the series I ever played. I purchased it at a department store in 2011 on clearance for just $10 and gave it a try. It was a wonderful summer that year, and the odd Nunchuck+Wii Remote setup never got in the way of playing the game. It's been ages since I looked at my old City Folk town, and I still have it's save file on my Wii U. Perhaps I'll pay my old town a visit soon.

Overall my favorite AC-Games are and yes i played them all: 1. New Leaf (villagers are already dumbed down, but not the point of NH) 2. Wild World (close to being Number 1, but NL has more to Stuff to do) 3. Game Cube (again very close to the other two above this). Basically these three are all my favorites and it's hard to pick places for them. 4. City Folks (it was just a better looking Wild Worlds and didn't bring much new stuff to the table) and then for a long time comes nothing and then at 5. New Horizons, mostly because for me the villagers are the heart (and the core) of the game and they lack so, so , so much. I do like the outdoor-decorations, even though i could do without terraforming, as i like to work with what i'm given, makes the choice of an island way more meaningful. But i just can't get over the lack of the villagers personalities. It's just like social media, everybody is only obsessed with looks (villagers and that whole "aesthetics" islands themes stuff) and nobody tends to look beyond that. That was so much more different in the former games and sure, you had characters you hated, but that was not solely on how they looked. And regarding to looks... tbh if you have seen one "cottage core" (or any other "core" for that matter) island, you have seen all cottage core islands. In a way the creativity was there and at the same time it was all so uniform and not unique. For me, i'm very sceptical with the main-series going forward. We'll probably never see sassy villagers again and the rest of the game will only focus on looks and not on being a chill life-sim, that is there to relax and do/collect some things here and there. If the next iteration of AC is anything like NH, i might skip that title altogether. NH is my least played game of them all. But as other Devs have now seen the success of this cozy game series, we have also seen some promising new games that are in the same vein. Be it Cozy Grove, Hoko Life or Disney's Dreamlight Valley. I enjoy all of these three over AC NH.

Let's be honest: The only thing that New Horizons has that it does well over the past entries is being able to decorate outside and terraform. If it didn't have that it would be easily called the worst. But I still kind of see it as the worst regardless because for me I've always cared more about the villager personality and interactions being an old player, so hot take I know but yea.

I've played all the games except City Folk (yes, even Animal Forest), and honestly, New Horizons might be my least favorite. I'm 100% bias with New Leaf, but I have to disagree on the villagers being boring. I liked being pinged by villagers all the time and being asked chores or questions that you could answer. In New Horizons I find that those interactions are locked behind having high friendship with the villager, and most of the interesting things they have to say happen when they're indoors. While I do find it cute to see them interacting with the world, I much rather them interact with me. But I'll give NH a point for letting you decorate outside, and even then, it seemed like they focused so much on the outdoor furniture that they kinda forgot about indoor ones (this got addressed in the 2.0 update, but so many furniture series yet to make a return). With the lackluster villager interactions, it really makes this game feel more like a decorating simulator and less like a life simulator... Also, to me the updates did more harm to the game than good, because the first year was just getting features that got ripped out from the previous entries, so it was nothing new to look forward to.

I started playing AC with Pocket Camp (backdoor method, since the game isn't available in our country) while waiting for the shipment of New Horizons during the lockdown, until I changed my phone (even subbed for the Camp Helper!). I joined local FB community for AC and that was a much fun experience, exchanging ideas, items, visits - I even ended up buying the whole soundtrack to the game (Part 1 and Part 2 - which includes new tunes from 2.0 update). Pandemic aside, AC has become one of the games I love playing and coming back to every now and then (almost 2k hours is pretty solid prove to my continuous commitment towards my island in ACNH!). And just a few months ago, I even bought New Leaf as suggested by some players - and boy I do get addicted to visiting Kapp'n island to catch bugs! I don't consider myself a fan of farming/ crafting/ decorating kind of games, but AC is definitely more that just that. Sometimes, I open ACNH just to sit at the beach, watching the sun goes down, or wake up at 5am during winter season to build some snowboy (we don't have winter where I live, so that's kinda neat though it's just in the game).

Unpopular opinion: New Horizons was badly designed. I can name at least FIFTY flaws, there are many improvements that could have been added - including more DLC which Nintendo abandoned because it's obvious the developers who worked on this (from looking at what hackers have done seemingly with ease) clearly scammed Nintendo out of money for their work. Not to mention as it was "rolled out from early access" from the go, developers wasted time and money by REMOVING features.

I like the first one because it had the NES games and other Nintendo game based items. Wild World was fine but the world wasn't fully ready online play. City Folks was a powerhouse when it came to online play where you can send wii messages from the game to invite anyone when your gate was open, the online auctions, using the wii speak, and getting few wifi gifts from Nintendo every month made both New Leaf and New Horizon a joke when it comes to wifi gifts from Nintendo. New Leaf was fine with the standard gameplay but it was lacking online function like the wifi gifts which half the gifts can only get from Nintendo Zone locations making it impossible to get those items without making your Nintendo Zone setup which is something I did just to get those items or using a Action Replay which was the only way to get the 7/11 items without spending thousands of dollars to get them Japan. New Horizon which basically suffer the same fate as New Leaf cutting the wifi gifts within the first year, not adding any way to send messages when you were playing but I'm counting the smartphone app as a good messaging because you need two things just for messaging, only having Mario items without adding other Nintendo game items made the game more of a killjoy not options to design your island from a game you like. 20 years of Animal Crossing and would think New Horizon should add some old stuff for the fan base where I think it got the worst part feeling like a beta version instead of a full version game when it came out.

An example being Lloyds auctioning shop which would be useful if we had what we had today. But the city needed more content such as a dream suite harriets style upgrades and kicks opening a shop to generally work. Plus most of the likes of gracie was the same as WW. New Horizons is the worst by far, completely soulless and style over substance. Everything special from the older games are watered down in favour of the new customization features. Which are nice but completely unmanageable, with a horribly designed UI which means you'll spend a huge chunk of the time not playing the game but fighting the menus. Aesthetically all the "good" islands look the same unless you go through ridiculous lengths to get stuff like the Zodiac items. They completely botched content distribution effectively killing casual interest less than 6 months in. Tools breaking constantly makes replaying the game a chore and crafting quickly loses its appeal. The game just isn't fun in the way other AC games are fun, I don't have fun playing it. I could go into a million little other reasons why I dislike the game but I ultimately just think NH is a step down from NL in every way. And after 8 years of waiting that stings a bit.

New Horizons was my introduction to the Animal Crossing franchise, and I Love it. I’ve also played New Leaf, but I got burnt out on it after a month. It’s been quite a while now though, so maybe I’ll revisit it. I haven’t played any of the other games yet, but I can’t wait to try them out.

I would say Wild World logically? Even though it's my personal favorite. And the one that I started with. I never played city folk but from what I've read it makes sense why that one is a lot of people's least favorite. But it just feels like wild world Plus extra stuff to me

Wild world was by far my favorite and I think it was because it was portable I was able to attend to my town way more easily. City folk is the one I’d have to say is the worst. I can’t put my finger on it but I had no desire what so ever to play it. I would turn it on play for 5 minutes turn it off it just wasn’t fun. I’ve played all of them and that one stands out as the worst.

I've been playing since GameCube. Game play wise, I do agree Wild World is the weakest. But, Wild World was a big deal when it came out. A handheld AC game was unthinkable. It maxed out the DS's game play and graphics abilities. Everyone was shook by being able to place custom designs on the ground. So I have mad respect for it considering the context of its release. I think City Folk was fantastic too. Took the GCN version and completely elevated it.

Ooo very controversial video idea, I like it!! It’s very well thought out too, seemingly. I enjoy the way you’re harking back to some of your older content with this style. Although I’ve not had a chance to play all of the main line games, you make very good arguments for and against them! Would love to see more content like this in future, if it’s what you enjoy creating! Bob’s Gang!

Having played all the mainline AC games, here's my ranking of them from worst to best: 5. Wild World, for pretty much all the same reasons mentioned in this video. No need to repeat them here. 4. City Life. Definitely better and more fun than WW, but the Wii controller just made playing this one a pain. And I didn't like how all the acorns turned rotten if you didn't pick them up right away -- I checked my CL town the other day, and it's littered with rotten acorns all over the place! On the plus side, we got Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas back again, yay! 3. New Horizons. Can't deny the improved graphics (the Museum alone blew me away). Tons of stuff to collect and storage space. Crafting is cool (except for the perpetually breaking tools). And I like the dodos and their seaplane. But my villagers are dull, repetitive and lack any real personality. And some of my favorite NPCs have been watered down (Kapp'n sounds like he's bored with his job) or just given short shrift (when I invited Dr. Shrunk to the Roost via amiibo, seeing him sitting there looking so sad and lonely nearly broke my heart). It's depressing sometimes. Worst of all is the paywall forcing you to either buy a Nintendo Switch Online membership, or do without certain fruits, being able to visit other players islands or dream towns, etc. 2. Animal Crossing (GameCube). The one that started it all for me would still be my favorite game of the series, were it not for the limitations of the GameCube console. That crazy Viking cap you wore if you were a boy, and that equally crazy peaked hat that all girl players were stuck with. But I loved it just the same. There's an incredible satisfaction to finally becoming friends with that grumpy villager who started out rude and insulting, but gradually warmed up to you if you played your cards right with him. Same with the snooty villagers. I miss that sort of thing. But I do have to admit, this first version of the game had the worst fossil assessment -- having to mail each fossil out to get it assessed wasn't fun. Glad Blathers learned how to do it in later games. 1. New Leaf. Ahh, New Leaf -- it was already pretty darn good when it first came out, but after the Welcome Amiibo update, it was fantastic! Being the Mayor, Tortimer's Island (and Kapp'n was at his very best in this game), Harv's Campground, Holidays that were better than ever (the best they've ever been, in my opinion), Working at the Roost (Oh how I miss that!), being able to visit Dream Towns and share one of your own (WITHOUT a paywall!), ditto for just plain visiting other towns, being able to invite characters like Wolf Link and Felyne to live in your town via amiibo, playing Desert Island Escape -- the list just goes on and on! (I will mention ONE thing that NH did better than NL -- it got rid of those blasted stinging jellyfish while swimming in the ocean.) I hope Nintendo is playing attention to videos like these for whenever they decide to release the next major game in the series. Maybe that one will be the best in the series, who knows?

My least favourite Animal Crossing is New Horizons for a very subjective reason. Don't get me wrong, I spent a lot of time playing it and I had much fun doing so, but for me the game stands for everything what is wrong about Nintendo about the moment and for that I hate it. It also never fully caught on me like the older games still do

I used to love city folk.. but.. now I'm kinda meh about it... It's not bad but after awhile I got really bored. Unable to run around without destroying your grass . Terrible. The city... Wasn't bad.. but lacked any real reason to go back there. Gracie Grace was over priced and.. kicks was hard to understand. The resell place useless without internet.. point is. The game became almost unplayable after Nintendo nixed the Wiis connectivity to internet.. boring to play without friends... New leaf is my favorite although I can't play anymore unless I buy 3ds and the game. New horizons is fun. Lots to do.

I played the original GameCube animal crossing and ACNH. I didn’t have a chance to play any of the ones in between so I’m biased at ACNH’s improvement over the GameCube one lol. Though I will say sometimes I do think the old did have some better dialog and the favors for neighbors were fun.

The gamecube is the original. It's just an enhanced port. They added the island or whatever extra and had enough left over space on the disc they added all the NES games as playable furniture. I've played all of them. Every one. I'd say WW would be the worse. Best villager dialogue but too small space there's too much cut content from the first and onward. Also, CF controls were great. I could play while eating dinner. Pizza in one hand, switch between remotes in the other. NH would be the best if they didn't remove such obvious things from NL, like freedom in picking the order you upgrade your house. Or choosing which sleeves you want for your shirt. Or being a tropical island but removed the tropical fruit (seriously, the normal fruit should've been all available while the tropical ones be the account locked sister fruit.) Also, I want my Zelda and Splatoon items back (NH is the only game without the Master Sword) and the awesome stained glass window.

I started with the GameCube version when I was... I want to say 10 years old? Played the heck out of it until years later I got a 3DS. Never had the wii, so I skipped right to New Leaf. Next June in 2023 will be my 11 year anniversary for New Leaf too. I've been playing New Horizons since it came out (working at GameStop at the time), and I hope I'll be playing it for honestly the rest of my life. Bob's Gang 4 life

I only briefly played New Leaf when I had my 3DS, but not enough to remember it. I finally decided to try New Horizons, and I’m so invested in it. I wish Nintendo would pay more attention to it though. It feels like they are just wasting the game, especially since the 2.0 update, they said they would be no more updates to NH.

Gotta bandwagon a little bit by joining the New Leaf is best camp. BUT New Horizons is sooooooo close for me as someone who loves customising everything they can get their hands on. That freedom is what sells New Horizons to me most of all and if we could get that with some older features returned...

Wild world was my first ac game but I have played all of them. They all are unique and great in there own way but I feel like city folk has the least unique characteristics. For me the worst game would have to be Wild World or City Folk simply because they are the most similar games and therefore redundant. Neither is bad just that there is no real reason to play both. Ultimately I would say Wild World is the better game solely for the fact that I think Animal Crossing is better as a handheld game. City folk isn't a bad game, just the one with the least reasons to play.

smh I never got into City Folk, I started on wild world, I was young and I played the hell outta the game I was like a drug addict at that pointm it had me hooked like no other AC, for aproximately a year I did play daily... didn't skip a single day, I used timetravel tho but honestly who didn't when they figured out how. My sister an I both got it for easter in the year it released so we often played together and even had a few very interesting storylines that we completely made up it was magical... City folk wasn't an upgrade on the formula that we enjoyed so much and by now it lost it's complete value, why? Simple it lost it's multiplayer component in 2011 when the official servers shut down. AC may be fun alone but it's twice the fun with friends and without the interaction you have AC WW without multiplayer and that sucked. for NL I unfortunately lost my copy... I did love the game but somehow when I wanted to get back in it was missing I still got the case tho. NH is basically my goto AC atm since it's the best option for multiplayer as of now. AC GC never even had multiplayer so it kinda never really caught our interest that much sadly. I mean I did have a lot of fun with it but I never played ittoo much.
