Slight corrections -- the two reactions I talk about at 5:07 aren't actually unused. The purple mist effect actually gets applied during Halloween when villagers trick you, but the reaction state doesn't include the villager's panic animation like it does during that event. And the scared reaction is used when Resetti yells at you for resetting, but it's hard to see if your back is turned! And yes... I do have a typo at 5:32... sorry! The animalese section of this video made me remember a question i have. I own the isabelle and tom nook build a bear plushes, both with their sound chips. Since animalese is spoken with actual characters from a language, would there be a way to slow down the sound clips of the characters talking and decipher it into actual words? I havent seen anyone do this yet. And i dont know how easy that would be since im not sure if the speaking is in the english or japanese version of animalese, or even if it's just random gibberish words or not.

PET isn't just short for polyethylene, but specifically 'polyethylene terephthalate' or 'polyethylene tetrachloride', the two most common plastics used for water bottles (among many other things).
@gregariosity6 ай бұрын
Ethylene tetrachloride (aka perc or “dry cleaning fluid”) isn’t polymerized into a plastic, and chlorinated polyethylene (aka PE-C or CPE) usually isn’t more than 50% chlorinated and is mostly used for cable jacketing or as an additive for PVC. PET is just the terephthalate.

Additionally, middle row, column three looks like it could be a mobile suit (from Gundam). Loved the video Hunter! Keep it up! Also, the purple mist reaction you showed was for when an NPC swaps an item in your inventory. The other version for changing the outfit is an animation ID, seen in the list below. By executing player animations in game, you could access some never before seen features. There's an animation ID which can take data to allow any animation to be played. Villagers, special npcs, and even their reactions can be used. Data must be passed through in the animation pointer, though. Here's a list of animation IDs for the Nintendo 64 version. In order to fix the soft lock, you must execute the idle animation. Most animations when executed must also contain data otherwise they will warp you to coordinates 0,0. The list was never completed, however, as I had to keep resetting my N64 after testing each one because a lot of them would softlock. You can see them by opening the playerreg editor in the games debug mode, it's towards one of the final pages. Also another interesting tidbit, in the original version, the game has an animation for when the player is falling which is meant to lock the movement of the player. Using my walk through walls code has a fix for this. GameShark v3.2 [Walk through walls] 810695D4 0000 810695D6 0000 810695BC 0000 810695BE 0000 803B530F 000A (The falling anim fix is this line).

11:34 I never knew the Pokemon Mini was a potential errand item in Animal Crossing GCN, although I do now remember the Gameboy being an errand item. Makes me wonder if they were ever meant to be playable like the NES, especially because Pokemon Channel had a collection of Pokemon Mini games on Gamecube.

I like the last shirt @ 11:59 that says "test NPC" where "test" is in cursive lol it looks like the one before that could be a reference to puyo puyo with the different colored orbs on a grid, notably with no groups of 4 or more
@captaineli24616 ай бұрын
11:57 The second to last pattern in the first row is a reference to Ultraman. A Japanese superhero who is a big part of pop culture in the region (as far as I know).
@TheHylainKnight6 ай бұрын
11:59 The 15th shirt looks to me like it'd be a reference to Link's tunic. I know a few of the future games have actual clothing items for it but dunno if ones exist this far back.
@pramina18786 ай бұрын
From the list of beta textures at 11:57 , the 2nd shirt from the right on the top row bears a resemblance to Ultraman, a long running Japanese Tokusatsu show. The shirt is missing the blue orb in the middle, but the pattern and colors seem close enough to count as a reference.

Always love seeing these quirks I had a rather mundane video idea pop in my head but could be still worth discussing is how the Lost & Found/Recycle Bin work and what items it decides to toss in. Could maybe fit in another one of these Oddities grab bag videos

It's such a shame Blanca never returned. You can already draw inappropriate things onto your clothes and visit other people's towns, so why is drawing on her face so bad? Even then, they could just let her hang out in your own town for the rest of the day. It's still gonna be fun to see what kinda face you drew last time you saw her.
@paula-ana47996 ай бұрын
I was lucky enough to see Blanca quite a bit as a kid :D She was *incredibly* interesting to me. I had the lucky combination of both having a cousin who had his own town living with me, and also having multiple memory cards of my own.

For so many people, Anamalese IS animal crossing!! Hard to imagine that concept getting scrapped, considering how much it adds to the personality and aesthetic of the game

Great video! Isn't the purple mist reaction used on Halloween night when the villagers swap your shirt with the Patched Shirt?
@Hunter-R.6 ай бұрын
I checked and you're right, it is used for exactly that... I've added a correction to the pinned comment that explains these reactions a bit more! Seems a bit silly to have gone through the trouble of triggering them if they weren't unused all along, but oh well... :c

12:28 I know you vaguely described where the name comes from, but as a bit of extra clarification, in Japanese, plastic bottles are often called "pet bottles" because of what you mentioned, but it is a common phrasing in Japanese in case anyone might think it was a weird contraction

The weird thing is that the villager "lost item" of glasses, which had a sprite of glasses in a case, was changed to that unused beta sprite of glasses in Doubutsu no Mori e+. This is an extremely niche thing that I found.

in japan, calling plastic bottles “pet bottles” is very common. i’m japanese and my mom would often tell me to recycle or reuse my pet bottles (recycling is also very important!) there is even a manga called “leave it to pet!” that i used to read as a kid about a recycled pet bottle and his antics.

The reason a lot of people knew about Blaca wasn’t because everyone was visiting actual friend’s towns, but because most people had two memory cards and would create a second town to access new fruits and just have another place to explore. Most people already had a memory card before receiving the one with AC.

Blanca can also be encountered in Wild World! The telephone in the attic of the player's house will ask if they want a "mysterious cat" to travel by phone, and after visiting another town (doesn't require WiiConnect, the original DS Lite was all about local internet lol) Blanca may appear in the player's town.

The teal and white design on the top right with the red spot in the middle is the design of Nausicaa’s dress in Nausicaä and the Valley of the Wind! It’s a Studio Ghibli movie so I’m not surprised they used that as a test design!
