Hey Justin I'm a shipper receiver in Canada and my dad was a driver for 40 years so I do all I can for the drivers and I can't count how many times I have stayed after my 12 hour shift is over with no pay because the guy on the other shift doesn't care and will leave a truck in a dock for hours if I don't stay and finish loading him. Biggest problem is the younger generation just doesn't care!

They will not only waste a full day they won't let you use their bathrooms and when you're out of hours with plenty of space at the facility they tell you to get off the property regardless if it's safe or not, absolutely no human element to it as if robots or autonomous truckers are already here! Sadly it's illegal foe truckers to strike and shutdown! Always voice your opinion respectfully as maybe it could create positive change! You a good man! 🇺🇸

That's the main reason I quit driving. The wait was ridiculous. One stop held me for over 8hrs to unload and had a sign that stated 'No Pets out of Trucks.' Needless to say that rule was broken. I told them my dog is getting out, if you got a problem kick me out.

Broker told you a specific window. Shipper told you something different when you got there, renegotiation has to happen at that moment, broker needs to be on the "do not use" list if they don't do the right thing at that moment.

I don't know what you are complaining about!!! I had to wait 4 days once to get rolls of linoleum unloaded in Houston. They said even if we wanted to, we don't have any room to put this rolls. It was 95 and humid, as usual in Houston, so I had to pay for a motel room for 4 days. No air conditioning in my truck back then (late 70's) although it was a Kenworth. I decided to get out of trucking. Best decision I ever made. Before I had worked in machine shop, time and a half after 8 hours, m-f, time and a half on Saturday first 8 hour, then double time. Double time on Sunday all day. Went back into being a toolmaker. Best decision I have ever made. Now it is 40 years later and I am retired. I knew trucking would never change, and obviously it still hasn't.

You waited 13 hours too many! When you arrive you establish a plan and make them abide by it. Know your worth, call the shots. That building is not going anyplace, but you can! Back in the 70’s when my dad was hauling oil over to Page Arizona, the biggest problem was taking too long to fuel the truck. 3 drivers assigned to the truck, 1 in the seat, 1 in the sleeper, 1 at home getting ready to get back on the truck. My high school was along the freeway and I could set my watch by when I saw the truck go by, every morning! All three drivers were making good money and consistently rolled down the road almost non stop!

In 2001 i used to work as a self employed courier, after 15 mins we had what was called "wait time". It's amazing how quickly they get you loaded when your "on the clock"! Often "wait time" paid better than the actual shipment itself! oh and if they canceled the load after you have shown up then they had to pay anyway!

Depending if the shipper is FCFS or by appointment but either way most detention pay start 2hrs after your appointment time or when you checked at the shipper for the load. You can make your own carrier and broker agreement and you place your own rate for detention, TONU, rédelo very fees ETC (a lot brokers will not accept it but if they need you they will) when you do send it make sure a manager sends it back. I will add that we know how this industry works now so if we always work like this we will never get a load but it just take one load to get this done then they have to respect it for all loads. The problem here is that the FED and the state gov does not care enough about regulations to solve this problem. But hey, after they went well past the time to get the load ready, it was time to go. Some loads are not worth the wasted time. That’s a company to be put on the “do not go to” list. They got all these “bad company” lists, and I can imagine that they have a “bad shipper/receiver” list. There must be one since I saw a trucker say he checked the ratings of companies before accepting loads. Perhaps you should do that before you book a load to avoid trouble.

I started out as a music business carrier. I hauled AC/DC, Motely Crue, Metallica, and Deep Purple, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. (Among others) But the money wasn't there. So I got involved with heavy haul. I ran 13 to 19 axle traffic and could make around $1500 a day on smaller equipment and as much as $3500 a day hauling heavier (this was back in the 80's and early 90's). . Since a crane is usually necessary to load, the shipper is enthusiastic about having everything ready to load or unload. There is no thrill greater than coming down Cabbage weighing 350,000 #.

Waste of HOS... yesterday I arrived at pick up location at 5pm. Didn't get loaded until 11pm. The place was so unorganized.. there's a sheet where you check in. Warehouse worker tells me I'm next behind another driver. Then here comes someone who doesn't even check in, asks the yard dog for a dock and dude literally skipped everyone waiting for a dock. Sadly this isn't the first time shipper or receiver held us back, and our company hasn't paid us any detention pay. OTR isn't paying as they should these days. Even company drivers

My husband and I dealt with this a lot. I completely understand this. There was a water plant in Ct. with robots, and the problems were constant. And waiting like you did, we've done. Not fun.

@stevenjm8001 them robots would break down. And we would have to sit and wait. Now, if them humans were responsible for fixing them, and didn't, well then, I get it. But we could have gotten in and out faster with lumpers. But nope. Automation saves the company money. But not us.

agreed. I understand wanting the bigger payday with a long-haul and utilizing the van trailer, but he bought the day cab for a reason and now it's just sitting there. Cement seemed to be more stable, and it provided more home time/family time.

For sure on those Nail I bet money you will find one. Last week I was backing my 21 GMC Sierra Crew Cab w/ 37X12.5 R 20s. They Rub a tad at the Inside, I had a Key lift where the put new keys in the Torque Bars. So Thursday of last week I had those Tires also FourNew Monroe Soft Ride Shocks, and the 37 Tires but the tire to me look funny because they are so big. The Company Four Wheel Buy did the Work great job everything so very Clean. But now I talked to them today for Three Thousand it’s getting a Five Inch BDS Life with Wedge Blocks in the Back, then Fox shocks with Red Boots Shaft Covers. It rides so Good Better then Shocks. I can’t wait until I get it lifted and do a few more things. I am installing Aims Research Fold Up Running Boards. Now I want to buy a 55 Chevy or GMC Step Side not a Fleet Side but a Step Side in good Shape so I can Installed a Twin Turbo 6.6 Dirty Max. With a (6) Six Speed Automatic Transmission. They are So hard to find my buddy in Scottsdale, Arizona Found a Long Box Fleet side last year but that just not what I want. Either that or a (69 through 70) Chevy or GMC Blazer, we seen one at the Auto Fest in Frankemuth. A Three Day Event so if you can’t find the car you have been looking for then give it up because there literally Thousands of czars and Trucks. But The Blazer I want to Raise up (4) Four Inch Lift but the Double Nickel Slammed to the Ground with Air Bag Suspension so I can Control Ride Height. I had a 69 through 72 Chevy single cab long box lifted W/ 6” inch Spring Lift (5) Five By (5) Five Inch Square Steel Blocks welded to the Frame Pads so we could run the Bolt through but at the Same time not having the Body sliding but it wasn’t off road it after that. It has 44” Gumbo Monster Mudders so Total (11) Eleven Inches that Truck was a Beautiful Truck and I absolutely loved it because I build my own stuff. I sold 30 Years ago to pay for My Wife and I Wedding. My Wife wanted a Big Beautiful Wedding that we could have over (800) Eight Hundred People come. It was sweet for sure. Fast forward as a Business owner and a Retired Fire Chief I am Retired because I beat my Body up so bad that I have Bone Spurs in my Knees. Then after 25 different X-rays they Concluded I have Arthritis in every Joint in my body from the Hitting it Hard every Night there then off shift hours were spent taking care of our Property Maintenance Company a Concrete Company, along with The Fire Department. Also was working at Flints Beecher Schools what Used to be a district w/ over (7000) Thousand Students enrolled there. So we sold our for house we every bought. We put a little Money into we added a Addition on the back of the House on top of the Deck making a Sun Room, also a 12x12 Hot Tub Room that had Screen and Vinyl Winders that slide down to the Height of the Top of the Hot ton so soaking In it it was always a cool breeze blowing there so even there would be Snowing out, so beautiful and Romantic for sure. Well sold that place we made (65) Sixties Five grand off the house. We built a new home (21) Twenty One. We want to do a few Add one to this Home. But it’s (12) Twelve Acres @ 32’X 48’ 10’ High then we added on a 32’X32’ 14’ tall Two 12x12 Garage doors.so I digress again, my Apologies to you all.I have everything in place Had Tools,Lifts, Clamps, Sanders, Paint Guns, everything to do the Truck how I want but I can’t find them for sale or even someone to even except a Offer. So what I have built up in assets are Great. Long Story brother I writing a Book, I a, working on the Book Deal if that falls through I iiijúuk7m"'l write from my heart if it’s good then it will sell if I don’t think it will then I will send it to a publisher to proof read. Rearrange.

But why did you stay 12 hours and leave and spend the night at the truck stop. You did the same thing as the warehouse but didn't get paid as a truck driver with a sleeper birth sleep and let them come to the truck.

The roofing price was high. But I think the installer got 2100 but that couldn’t have included the shingles. I would guess you have around 22sq’s. the cost of shingles would be around 3800. But at least it was done before the rain. I was a O/O with a step deck. I biggest problems came from military, job site, and auction loads. But back then they paid good.

while during Next heavy rain just as a precaution look around in your attic especially around a chimney for seepage, it can go on undetected for years . When my roofer said he was through with the new roof I said Good, now I can call the home inspector. because I am thinking about selling this house he spent 3 more hours doing something which made me a little suspicious he was tidying of his job because an Expert was fixing to look at it.

That should not happen, they give an appointment window they can meet it you should get your whole fee for the run. That is the only way this problem will get fixed by these shippers that cannt meet their own appointment.

Yep, you got to watch how you handle some of these shippers/receivers! Bug them too much (or at all) and they’ll drag their feet just to spite you! Sometimes it is best though to raise some hell and crack a few heads! I remember asking for a manager, reading the riot act, and lamenting that they had to see that side of me! The office was filled with over a dozen or so drivers who quite appreciative of my “stirring the pot” and things did start moving thereafter!

Hello Justin. I say, "Hurt my feelings but tell me the truth." Sometimes folks will tell you what they think you want to hear. Those folks get paid by their loads being delivered. They may not realize that. For the truck getting a ticket to catch you again, getting two speeding tickets in one day might not look good on their insurance. Have good days!
