Hey great content. Just wanna say, yes London is expensive but take into account that SA looks so affordable when you’re earning pounds. 5k to you is something close to 100k to someone in SA😅

Yes very good point! How would you say the Precint price compared for the average person in Joburg?

@@Lamideelizabeth For an average family needing two bedrooms, I think people would generally want to pay between R6000 and R9000. Another point is people who earn enough to pay R10 000 per month might rather take out a home loan (mortgage) to purchase and pay their bond monthly rather than renting.
@mantombimakhubela2 жыл бұрын
The Precinct price is so much more than the middle class in SA can actually afford. Average rent in SA is around 8K but that’s still without food, monthly utilities meaning it’ll likely range to about 12K+

I know the feeling... the UK is not what it's made to be in the media, far from it. got homesick about a month in. Spent the year regretting my decision and making plans to come back. About 14moths in I came home to visit and never went back.
@annieknowles-huth49782 жыл бұрын
@@pheladikganyago8851 My recommendation is - scratch everything you've ever heard. The UK has excellent PR. It's mostly all lies. Visit the country first, for at least 3 months, and speak to fellow Saffas who look just like you, and find out what their real experiences are -social, political, career, etc.. the real stuff, not the social media fluff.

Working professionals avoid places like The Precinct, especially those who WFH. Its normally full of students, loud, and security is inconsistent when it comes to enforcing rules. When it comes to gated communities, rather look for places with less than 100 units. As an owner, you get way better service from estate management and the community as a whole is always well maintained

This market is mainly for foreigners earning in their stronger currencies which incidentally hike up the prices and keep locals out of the market and make houses out of their reach. It’s a double edged sword so I think context matters. I would venture to say people in SA don’t consider this a bargain.

Before I decided it was time to buy, I rented a much bigger 2-Bedrooms with 2 garages (not carports) for R10,500 in another area of Johannesburg, close to Woolworths, Virgin Active, Kauai, Mugg and Bean, Checkers and other coffee and breakfast spots. Pretty convenient place. After living in Abu Dhabi for 7 years, I realized just how much property variety SA is offering for extremely reasonable prices. This isn’t advertised and spoken about enough for the world to notice.

This is a great cover of cost of living in SA compared to London. We have a lot of professionals in the CA, Tech, VC and Auditing space for instance being offered opportunities in the west which look great on paper but once the move takes place it is somewhat difficult to maintain the same lifestyle in the hub of London. SA’s cost of living is somewhat still great because of the huge poverty lines. With unemployment sitting at 30% plus, most of the properties that go for 10k plus for rentals are gems for the middle class and mid senior professionals. Cape Town is our most expensive city to live in followed by Sandton and Waterfall.
