This is what a dry boat sounds like... but just wait till you get to the anchor locker

PBO's marine surveyor Ben Sutcliffe-Davies explains how to 'listen' to a hull using a ball-pein hammer and a moisture meter. He's pleased to find that Maximus, the Maxi 84 yacht, is a dry boat with the same level moisture readings above and below the waterline... but wait until he gets to the anchor locker.

Wow, that meter is amazing!! Can you hire one do you know? It seems like it may be a big outlay just to use once in a blue moon.

In the States you can get good enough meters for around $60

If you search for the term "pinless moisture meter" they are often advertised for use with measuring wood for furniture making. I found one for £30 and put it on the hardwood setting. Just don't get the ones with the spikes.

And where is the owner doing proper maintenance? That anchor locker should never have standing water.
