This exam is 'applied mathematics' which in this case covers both linear algebra and differential equations. You might not have these combined in one course depending on your individual degree structure but you can expect to see content like this if you major in engineering, math or physics.

Finished my ms.c in biotech some 2 years ago from Aarhus University (DK). I had an applied math exam during my 6th semester (which is probably 4 years ago by now), and it was, in fact, alot like the exam here presented. It may have had just a bit more difficulty packed into it, not sure, but it really was very close to this. I think there were some additional subjects like La Place transform and solving of systems of differential equations. The difficulty, however, matched what you present here very closely. I do not remember sufficient linear algebra to do well in this exam right now, but all the subjects and solution models you presented seem very familiar to me, which I take as a good sign ;-) So thanks for a great vid on a slightly different type of exam than what you usually cover ;-)

Tibees , thank you for your videos! I'm really enjoyed seeing your explanations of different types of exams. I'm studying mechanical engineering in Russia and really interested in what way students in the US and Europe learn mathematics and physics. I would be glad if you could send me names of text books and workbooks of math and physics you used during your education process. Please, write them on my e-mail. Thank you in advance. Best wishes, Egor)

This is an absolute beauty of a paper. The first part on Linear Algebra is something that I can't believe I've come to love as much as I do. I remember in my first year I was all angry with Geometry I and was convinced that mathematics was all about calculus but now I love Linear Algebra and its applications. Haven't done *too* much by way of PDEs, but they're not too hard and I'm a sucker for some good old differential equations. Love your videos, and wish me luck because my exams start on Monday!!

A pretty fair summary of every Applied maths course I took in uni. exactly like Tibees said it's Linear Algebra (which was the very first course and for some reason the hardest one to me) and Partial (& regular) Differential Eq. There really isn't any calculus on the exam. but that might be because in most cases, myself included, calculus is done before university. You don't need it for lin. Algebra really, but it's the backbone of Diff-Eq and others. Great video.

3:40 I think you got question 3b) slightly wrong, the solution I got was the point (47/19, -16/19, 30/19) and that point seems to intersect all 3 of the given planes. Your point only intersects two of the planes but not the third :) {EDIT} I found the error lol, the system of equations in 3b) is not the same matrix as the previous question if you look at the second row, now we have -3x -3y + 5z and in 3a) we had the (x,y,z) be -3x + 3y + 5z, one minus sign changed it.
