I think Korea’s rapid rise under capitalism appears gilded from the outside but comes at the expense many of the people’s well being. The high pressure and fast paced life that comes with a rapidly evolving society based around consumerism and capital growth is inherently poor at caring for those who cannot provide as much economic output. This system essentially wishes to treat human beings as nothing more than commodities and caring for those most vulnerable is like swimming against a strong river. The root cause of homelessness, poverty, and wealth inequality is the same in most consumerist societies - it’s just the targeted demographic that’s different. The rapid increase of Korea’s standard of living should not be discounted but neither should its shortcomings and effect on the Korean culture.

@usrnameerror40464 жыл бұрын
Ya obviously everyone should have that but the sad part is that most countries don’t have the money or they don’t have their priorities in the right place. Usually rich countries like where I live in the United States, we got a lot of homeless people and we are one of the richest countries in the world. We for sure could pay for the homeless but the problem is we have other things we worry about like weapons getting into the wrong hands/people and don’t focus on helping the people inside the country currently that have problems. I think it’s important to keep the world safe but I think we need to start transitioning into helping people inside the countries and others that might need help in other countries.
@jamesrawlins7354 жыл бұрын
I think everyone probably agrees in principle - the challenge is specifics. For instance, it's not uncommon in US cities for homeless advocates to work together to try to create new shelters and even apartments for the homeless - what almost always follows is the challenge of how to pay for it - but even more frustrating - a huge disagreement of where to place it -for example in the nearest city where I live, most homeless services are located in one part of town - and the residents there don't want anymore - they ask why does it always have to go to our location - why not to a different part of town - and nothing happens. It's even a bigger challenge since Covid because of health regulations

@0611koc zex The reality is that Korea still doesn't have a long tradition or culture of charity. It's better than it used to be but they are only ranked 60th in the world. Koreans do donate more money now but are very lax as far as donating time (volunteerism is not considered a worthy personal goal). Btw, Taiwan is about the same, but Japan is FAR WORSE - they rank 128th overall - doing horribly for both donating money or volunteering). So you don't think all Asian countries are bad, Singapore is one of the ten best countries (ranked 7th) and Myanmar 9th.

Every country have a homeless. Maybe ur country are more worst than sokor lol.
@mnicole964 жыл бұрын
It is true that we don't expect these things from ''successful'' countries. They may look pretty on the outside due to the industrialization but deep within, there are a lot of societal issues as well, just like with any other country in the world. For example: Japan. They had to rebuilt their economy after they lost WWII. From there, their economy basically skyrocketed until the 1990's, where that specific economic bubble burst - therefore so many went into depression and burnout from rebuilding their country for so long. I look at South Korea with a similar situation with Japan but of course not the exact same, but these countries are similar in a way. They also had to rebuilt themselves after WWII and after The Korean War at the start of the mid 1950's. These are the generation that had to rebuild their economy and society, and it makes me both mad and sad that they're treated as if they're nothing today.

@@praem9597 you're an idiot if you think that mortality rate is the only bad thing covid does to a person's health. Covids problem is that you can't treat the symptoms so you have to just bear with the illness. Also it spreads much much faster than the regular flu so it is harder to contain. The people who have died so far would not have died if covid 19 had not spread, just because the mortality rate is not high does not mean that it is not dangerous or harmful to people. Covid is an illness not an allergic reaction where only a small part of the population gets negative side effects, most people who contract it will be physically ill and we still have no idea what the long term side effects of contracting it are.

Thanks for all that you guys do, Asian Boss! I donated for the first time in a long time and will try to maintain ongoing support! I'm happy to give up small things in life if it means giving to those that really need it! Cheers from New Zealand :)

Thank you for taking care of the elders that are especially vulnerable and forgotten. Watching your videos especially make me miss my late Grandfather. He was also Korean and met my Vietnamese Grandmother in Japan. They married and had 7 children. He passed away in 2001 but watching your videos make me feel closer to him. Hearing the elders voices bring me back to my childhood of him teaching me some Korean words. You are all such beautiful souls and thank you for all that you do♥️

South Korea is such a prosperous country yet somehow they've left behind the homeless, elderly, and/or physically and/or mentally disabled individuals. It's really a shame that South Korea's government isn't doing more since clearly there are still tons of people in need. In that regard, it's amazing to see what Asian Boss is doing. Keep it up! 💯

Korea's per capita GDP from when these people were born (1940s) to their early 20s (1960s) was the lowest in the world. Korea was so poor and war torn over that time that there are literally gaps in the data. The country couldn't even account for how much food or goods it produced. To top it all, it was coming out of a hundred years of extractive Japanese colonization. Even as recently as 1960, Korea's peer countries in per capita GDP were Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan. Sri Lanka, Colombia, Costa Rica and Ethiopia were all richer. The surprising thing is how prosperous Korea is today, not how poor its elderly are.

I was born rich and was able to move from an underdeveloped country to Australia with my family. So from time to time, I would watch these types of videos to remind myself how privilege and lucky I am to have a roof over my head, food on the table, and a good job. And even if I had lost my job or my business closed down, I would not have to worry about anything. Great job out there guys *clap*

A big round of applause for your heroic act Asian Boss. Been a viewer of your channel ever since 3 yrs ago, however this video makes me cry and feel sad that what's happening today, that no one is exempted from the pandemic. How much more for the homeless people who can't even afford to buy a mask and viand. After watching your video I realized I'm more blessed to be able to buy a mask, food to eat and a home to live. Good job guys and God bless to you all! ❤️🙏 Hoping many can help those people who are in need. 💖💖 Praying to end this pandemic soon. 🙏 PS. Sorry if my grammar is wrong.
