Exactly!!! Grimmel clearly stated in the movie that he killed every Night Fury except Toothless. I do not recall Drago saying he killed any, but I heard that the cloak Drago wears is a Night Fury skin. Maybe he killed one or he got the cloak from Grimmel.

There’s an article with Dean (the director) explaining why it had to end. m.ca.ign.com/articles/2018/06/07/this-is-why-the-how-to-train-your-dragon-series-has-to-end he explains how he wanted the series to be as realistic as possible while having dragons. That is why in the third movie he answered the question “why isn’t there dragons today?” It was commonly asked throughout the franchise and was answered in the last movie. He always made a point of saying that he didn’t want the franchise to drag on knowing it would ruin its image. He didn’t want it to be like The Land Before Time. Plus during the movie while Hiccup and Astrid were in the Hidden world it was obvious the dragons were not accustomed to having humans there and tried to kill them once they saw the couple there. That rules out the option for moving any human there. I also came across a post that made a very good point from a zoologist’s perspective. They explain that when Hiccup said “our world doesn’t deserve you, yet.” It was like A reference to our world today. We kill rare beautiful animals for sport, bones, skin, fur and tuffs. Ring a bell? That’s because it’s Much like Grimmel did with the Night Fury’s. Our world isn’t even ready for elephants so when Hiccup said that it was pretty much explaining that there wasn’t going to be another movie. Which I personally am happy about. It was such an amazing trilogy that I’ve watched and loved since being in grade 1 but as tony stark said “a part of the journey is the end.” And I think we got the ending we all deserved.

Grimmel killed all the Night Furies because he said so in the movie; although, Drago was wearing a cloak draped in dragon skin, so he may have killed one or he retrieved that cloak from Grimmel. It was theorized that the cloak Drago was wearing was Night Fury skin.

My personal head canon is that as years pass; Hiccups, Astrid, and their children decide that they cannot keep dragons a secret from the world as more people are getting close to the hidden world. Then an cataclysmic natural event happened to destroy the hidden world, causing the dragons to roam free once for. Berk would regain their for former dragons as they continue to rescue and help other dragons. Toothless and Hiccup grow old together.

There is the view that without dragons the Berklanders would just be regular Vikings, but I like to think they have a great advantage... they have Hiccup. He is an inventor and innovator--kind of the Leonardo DaVinci of the Vikings--, and he has the support of his people. Hiccup has shown he can forge weapons and innovations that would protect the Berklanders from invaders. They believe in him and they will embrace his inventions. Gobber and Hiccup can train future blacksmiths, and it seems Hiccup and Astrid's children will be innovative, too. I'd like to think the Berklanders will protect themselves from invaders and keep contact with their dragons for dragon scales for armor. And of course they will keep the dragons hidden, too. It would actually be a really cool future to envision that thanks to Berk's distant locaton from other humans, Hiccup's innovations, Gobber and Hiccup's teaching future generations about new technologies, Astrid and Valka's leadership support and knowledge, visits to the Hidden World for dragon contacts and scales and other resources... perhaps Berk could emerge in the future (our times or the 22nd century?) as a North Atlantic version of Wakanda. They´d be a mystical people, hidden from other peoples, and having innovations and technologies using green natural sources and Hidden World sources to create in our times legends of a mysterious island near the Arctic Circle hidden from modern eyes where the inhabitants live a high tech lifestyle that still incorporates Old Norse traditions and in a green way of living. And even into the modern times Berklanders would still have connections with dragons but more as protecting dragons from being seen by others. I'd like to think that could be an amazing future for Berk.

Also something I would like to say is that the reason the young furys "Night lights" are multi color is that The fury species always starts out multi color, but as they age they become one color. I started crying when i saw that on the internet that was the end of Toothless and Hiccup but while watching this I cried even more with joy Edit: I think that secretly Hiccup and Astrid go to the Hidden World once he passes his leadership onto someone else like all the Dragon Riders go to get their dragons and fly very far away so they find a different world! And maybe since Toothless is the only left of his kind his mate dies protecting Toothless and the babies, like Clownfish and Maybe Furies live just as long as their trainer! One theory that I have is that Windshear, Heather's Razorwhip, didn't leave her, or Dagur's Triple Stryke, Sleoother, didn't leave him eather. The two berserker Chiefs dragons will not leave their owners, and are ready to defend them for many more years to come. This causes confusion in the world that now believes dragons never existed. I mean, if they never existed, how do we know about them? How to we create such great stories about them, how do we know how they work?

The question I asked was why did it appear that Toothless didn't recognize Hiccup and I believe it's actually very simple Toothless never saw Hiccup with a beard last time Toothless saw Hiccup he was clean shaven and 10 years have passed but when the dragons came back on Homecoming he still never physically look at Hiccup he knew Hiccup was in that costume because of his smell he never forgot Hiccup smell so he knew Hiccup sent as for his daughter Hiccup's daughter she was still afraid of Hiccup just like if you have a young child and a friend of yours has a huge dog the kid might have seen the dog the kid might have gotten close to the dog but the kid never touched the dog so there's a difference when a little child sees a giant animal that somebody else has control of and making physical contact with that animal so when Hiccup and Astrid went to see Toothless and his mate that was her and her brother's first time to make physical contact with the dragons in the easiest way to understand the statement I'm making is to watch The Hidden World up until you get to right after Astrid and Hiccup get married ended there then watch Homecoming from the beginning same thing almost to the end and after Astrid says we should go visit them go back to the Hidden World and then watch the ending and the whole movie the two movies together will make sense of why Toothless didn't recognize Hiccup and why Astrid and Hiccups children were afraid of Topthless

Also, 6:00 it's canon that after Toothless left for a couple of years, he did forget all about his past life with Hiccup. That's why he was skeptical of Hiccup at the end of the third movie. If Hiccup doesn't visit him, then yea, he'll forget. He's an animal.
