That makes me wonder though, what about the worlds where the author hasn't finished the story? Got a few short stories that I've made growing up and only about one or two of them I finished (both being old stories I wrote in an old notebook somewhere). So, it makes me wonder if these worlds aren't fully made until they're published, or the unfinished worlds are treated like tiny islands or something (like in Neil Gaiman's Sandman).

The concept of a reverse isekai, where fiction becomes real, is sorely underexplored. I always love considering how a character would react to knowing their entire existence is at the whims of entertainment. How their trials and tribulations are just our tropes. I genuinely love how Re:Creators actually stepped up to tackle it from different angles in different genres, even if it ended up a bit bloated in it's own worldbuilding. I wish more works would play with these kinds of stories.

I wonder what would happen if say, characters who are aware of the fourth wall in their original stories (either because they come from comedies were characters are just aware, or dramas were they are aware due to achieving a level of higher understanding of the universe), or are just from a semi-realistic slice of life comedy would react to this whole "fictional characters arrive to the real world" OR EVEN BETTER characters from say, Tokusatsu live actions, or super hero comic book who realize the original actor who played them has already died decades ago or is WAY older han they are, and/or, the original writer who created the show they originally came from also died. And other writers and creators have continued their stories would that mean the character already achieved independence? have they basically become a legend-like figure (or so called "god like" in the sense of, them being a living belief carried through generations)? Bonus points if they brought in a robot characater, or a "virtual being" character and ironically was the most okay as this brought hem a sense of peace. as this means "their creator was created by someone else" and it is just a chain of being creating others

Also, Violet Evergarden is a show that sticks with me a lot. I lost a parent, too, and it was extremely sudden, and it really REALLY helped me understand things that we as people are never properly equipped to deal with - the author has a very deep understanding of grief, self discovery and moving beyond loss through casual AND deep connections. As a writer Re:Creators is similar, but yeah, good shows are so few and far between. Katanagatari is another one that sticks with me, since it similarly deals with loss, redemption, trust, faithfulness, loyalty, etc.
@CaseNumber00 Жыл бұрын
I never really felt that way about VEG...well except ep 10. As someone who has tragically lost people, I didnt like how it ended. Gil was presumed dead, Violet went thru the 5 stages, rebuilt her self, and all that and he was alive. She seemingly abandoned everything to go back to him. It felt like everything was for naught. I loved the show for awhile and that it taught and showed how to manage grief and loss but that flew out the window for Gill to be fucking around somewhere and them being united. I maybe jelous of her but it doesnt work like that. VEG dropped the ball, it abandoned hard life lessons in favor of a happy, almost, fairy tale ending.

Tbh, I was in the middle of writing my first novel when this came out and after watching it, I was like, "I need to put forth more respect for the things i create." This taught me the following: - respect your creations (give them personality and goals like any other person should) - write your story as a "character-driven" plot (give the characters agency and have them choose what to do next, etc.) - understand that you are, in some way, a god of a world you create and that changes made aren't exactly reversable. - think about what a character would do or say to you if they ever met you.

I love it because it deals with the harshness that comes in a competitive workplace and explained it in a not in a very straight forward way like what Bakuman or Shirobako did (which I both like as well). It’s about realizing what it means to create and what a creation means for people. Why do people draw/create stories? What does that drawing/stories mean to them or to others? Is there even any meaning to create? It’s a love letter to all the people involved in the anime community and industry including us, the viewer. It’s a message in RE:gard to CREATORS hence the title (and Episode 13) the core theme of the show revolves around the concept of acceptance. Altair; the main antagonist of the show, is the very embodiment of the hatred of those who are rejected. She is someone they can run to by creating Vocaloid that serves as an outlet for their frustration. That’s the meaning behind her creation even if some people only see “look anime girl”. The whole show begun because the main character Sota, couldn’t accept that he is an untalented artist just as the creations that got transported to the “real world” can’t accept the reality that they were not “real”

I think one of the biggest challenges it faced was the complete lack of an English Dub available. I enjoyed it thoroughly, however it's not a show I can freely share with many of my family or friends due to it lacking a Dub. Especially with the dialogue heavy episodes, it's difficult to recommend to them and breaks my heart knowing they won't enjoy it as much due to the combination of heavy dialogue and subtitles.

Yeah, that was my perception as well. The show literally shouts almost on every twist and turn about how you as a creator shouldn't give up and keep creating, and keep promising that your creations will always be beautiful even if you don't think so currently. Even at risk of becoming too positive for my taste, but for some reason in that case it doesn't spark frustration, or keep me irritated, but on the contrary - creates a warm feeling inside my chest. For me the show looks like a clear love letter not to stories, but to creators themselves, and I absolutely adore that

I'm surprised Gigguk took this long to make one for recreators, knowing how much he loves music in anime(past video). Now that he's done this I'm waiting for him to touch either 86 or aldnoah.zero also sound directed by Sawano Hiroyuki. One thing that cemented this show as one of my all times will always be sawano hiroyuki's OST. The way this guy just captures the scenes with all the anime that he's been with is just nothing short of perfect. May it be action, drama, suspense, this guy just knows how to bring out emotions through his songs, making the scene go from ok-good to heart wrenching ugly cry for the viewer.

For me, this was the right anime at the right moment. I started watching anime a couple years before Re:CREATORS was a thing, and being the mainstream anime enjoyer I was, I basically burned 99% of the historically good anime in the first year (leaving only a couple as a “safety net” for when all hope in anime would’ve been lost). After said 2 years, I was starting to see the pattern you mentioned at the end: yes, sure, the new anime was entertaining and all, but it was basically the same as another one. Why would I want to keep watching anime, if everything is more of just the same? And in that exact moment, I saw Re:CREATORS. It reminded me why I started watching anime in the first place, why I loved them so much. It was never about the originality of the story alone, but about the characters the author loved so much writing.

So glad to see you talk about this show. It's flawed, slow and often nonsensical, but it has a heart to it. You can feel the intent to create something in this show, and the love put behind that intent. When I first watched, I dropped it by episode 9 and didn't come back to it for months. When I did, it was just to see it through, and felt more like was obligated to. But when I rewatched, I also came to appreciate it more. The stories behind the creations gripped me more, as well as the motivations of the creators. All of it, while tied together with knots to complicated to untangle, works in a way that's hard to understand. In my opinion, why it's largely forgotten lies in a few aspect. While it has what I think are some of the best first 3 episodes I've seen, the pacing slows very quickly, and the excitement wears out with it. It's also very much a love letter to people in the creative industry, so if you just watch media for the sake of entertainment, it won't resonate as well. Finally, the accessibility is a massive issue in the West, with the series relegated to Amazon Prime since it came out. And because of poor sales in Japan, no dubbing company wants to pick it up, making a physical release in the West near impossible. All that aside, I appreciate anyone talking about this show honestly. It's a relief to see people (a lot judging by the comments) still remember this show 5 years later. Thanks for another great video Gigguk!

Holy cow all these years I thought I was the only one who watched this or that I made it up. So, so good to hear the Giggster himself singing it's well-deserved praises. A more heartfelt love-letter to creators of all different mediums and genres I've never seen, even if it is admittedly flawed.

What a blast from the past. Thank you for covering it again and just reinforcing the idea that a 7 or 8 that I love is worth more than a 10 I didn't enjoy watching. This anime was truly something else, a 10/10 in my book, and as someone who used to write a lot back in high school and immerse myself in stories, hit different. I remember watching this back in 2019 and have no idea of what made me seek it out initially, but I loved it. I tried to get others onboard but they'd be turned away by the dialogue after episode 1. Even online it would be difficult to find someone who truly liked it; they'd always talk about its flaws more than what they liked about it. I recognise that it has its flaws but still felt like it was magnified for no reason other than "yeah I know what I'm talking about as a seasoned viewer of anime". Oh and the soundtrack. I was addicted to Sawano after this anime and watched Aldnoah:Zero afterwards (RIP) for more of him. Every track in this anime was a 10/10 with Layers being a 11/10; the meaning behind the lyrics being the reason why it's higher on my list. Kudos to the crazy people who came with this and the ones who let it be executed. I want more shows like this, I'm sure they're out there but I haven't found them yet.
@1good1002 жыл бұрын
When I first watched it I quickly realized that it wasn't a story that was made because it was going to be popular, but a story made because the industry itself and authors wanted to tell it. That is what made it so great and unique. Even the ED, as simple as it may seem to be, is made that way because it wants to reflect how these stories are created in the first place.
@Mamiya6452 жыл бұрын
I appreciated this series. Been reading more books than ever before since I'm bored, and some of the highest quality writers can put a breakfast on two pages full and it will be right, it will fit in and make sense and expand the character and everything they go through. Let it inspire you folks! Imagine a magical girl battle finishing against a monster of the week, then a two page spread detailing civilian deaths, injuries, homes ruines, houses, buildings turned to rubble, animals injured and diseased in the conflict. That would be my style.

I mean, a lot of the show tends to feel like a collection of bizarre side quests... and in each episode, it can be a total mixed bag. you'll get history and cultural knowledge, characters cooking good food together, intense little tidbits of information about the main plot... but all of it maintains momentum, because it never lingers for a frustrating amount of time on any single one of those things. and most episodes have a lot of really top tier humor peppered throughout all of that, in a way that feels insane due to how much it _works._ this show will have you laughing so much, almost every episode. and then all of that goes on, right up until one of the season finales ties everything together in one giant, dramatic, hype as hell clusterfuck that has everybody yelling at the TV. you just don't get an anime that manages to have so much consistent, genuine fun each episode, but can still turn around and make people react like _that_ every day. and that's not even mentioning how many good thematic throughlines are maintained long term over the course of the series... so many characters have arcs that evolve in such fascinating ways. but for me, it goes beyond even that. sometimes a thing works well _because_ it wasn't built for everyone... it was built specifically for people with tastes just like yours. and also, when you show your friends an anime like that, and they really enjoy it too... it can be an indication that your friendship is built on good solid common ground. it's true that a show with broad appeal might hit more people at once... but it won't hit _you_ so incredibly hard. there's really nothing like being part of the niche audience that something was specifically crafted to impact.

I absolutely loved this show. Even the recap in between cours was a bit of a flight of fancy in storytelling; the "never meet your hero" themes were excellent, and the soundtrack? GOD DAMN. Hiroyuki Sawano brought his A-game on this one.

I honestly completely forgot about this show, and now I instantly remember how unique the storytelling was. Confronting creators with their own creations and inherit flaws. Sort of how "The Boys" exposed the flaws in superheroes. I rewatch this series thanks to this tribute. Thank you for reminding me

@@GimOA Because its has great concepts, great visuals and music, and highschool level of chuuni writing. From a critical pov it does some things amazingly well, and also has really huge flaws. @magic_cfw Жыл бұрын
@@Tiasung it is more or less the conclusion of the video. recreators is worth the watch because it niche, it targets that specific fantasy. other well crafted stories are often ones we have seen before, and to an extent can avoid all the exposition recreators may have needed to explain wtf is going on to a general audience.

Well it is hilarious that they decided that they are humans when it is the creator who decides whether they are humans or not let alone human rights. If creators can give them powers sure as hell they can change their personality.

Why is it so confronting. These authors didn't know that they created an alternate universe with their stories LOL I don't know what is the moral dilemma for the authors. It can be a shock to creations considering they can think that level without guidance from their authors/creators.

re:creators is one of those shows that i keep thinking about, even though some of the dialogue heavy episodes made me fall asleep sometimes. just the way it treated the creations and its creators made me feel warm inside. it just felt so comforting for someone like me who never really felt all that confident about my creations that its okay to just create cause in a way the stories being told are real and hold value, im so glad this series exists.

Yeah, I have no idea what Gigguk watched cause it wasn't the same show, I've tried to watch through it twice, when it first came out and about a year ago, but couldn't even finish it the second time, it's not just that the dialogue is heavy, its also not very interesting, a lot of it is just the characters repeating themselves. I think what's really great about this show is its premise, it is so interesting but done so badly. Not to mention how boring the characters were, they all felt like rip-offs, like the ripoff Izaya, who wasn't very smart and had a bullshit power. I could write an essay on what the show did wrong, maybe I will. I mean Gigguk kinda relays most of my points at the end. If Nasu or Narita made it, it would've been 10/10

Thank you, Gigguk. Truly, thank you. Re:Creators is an anime that stuck with me from my first viewing. As an aspiring author, this is a show that embodies so much to me. That passion to create, that need to keep going, the urge to want others to accept and like your work... it's a show that truly feels like it was made by passionate creators who weren't making an anime to please the masses, they were making it for THEM. The soundtrack, the characters, the references, the story... everything to me comes together to make this one that I'll hold dear to my heart. It holds the same place in my heart as Madoka Magica.
