Chess engines are programmed for a 8x8 board. It is possible to play 4 player chess with 4 engines but you would need specifically designed engines :)

@@TristanPopken 2v2 chess where both teams are controlled by a single engine, like Leela vs. Stockfish. I could only imagine the brilliant team tactics humans haven't even discovered. Could be a potentially great learning area to study this play
