Queen Camilla has spent a good portion of her life being unfavourably compared to Diana, the "fairytale" princess. She is a fine and admirable example of a stoic and resilient woman who does not play the victim card and just gets on with the job. My admiration for her strength in character grows each day.

I so agree. When Diana died I was one of those who vilified Camilla, but seeing her refusal to cry poor me, her resilience, her support and encouragement of Charles through many many years has made me change my mind about her and I’ve come to respect her dignity and grace. I admire her greatly. It is a shame they were never allowed to be together when they first fell in love. Diana was unprepared for the eccentricity of Charles and was far too young to learn to cope. Camilla always could and has been his rock. I am very happy for them both. Charles is lucky Queen Camilla was prepared to be so stoic and waited. True love won in the end. Through decent hard work and very hard won respect.

I’ve burst into tears several times watching the coverage, we stupidly waste the word “hero” so easily on so many that don’t deserve it, this group of LOVED people are TRUE HEROES AND DESERVE EVERY BIT OF LOVE, HONOR AND PRAISE! These are the ones we should TRULY BE THANKFUL FOR, what they went through, saw, the horrible memories, flashbacks, thinking of their comrades who didn’t make it back home, my grandfather is still with us, suffering from dementia and parkinson’s but he remembers. He’s so loved and I hope he still feels that from all of our family, friends and well wishers who celebrated, and brought him his favorite thing in the whole world, CHOCOLATES 🍫💔💙

I agree 100%, as an American I was incredibly moved by the beautiful ceremonies held by Britain and the speeches given by King Charles and Prince William. Our “resident in chief” was an embarrassment, as usual. I’m sure everyone’s seen the video. When I look at this country I love so much & see it being destroyed, not by some foreign military invasion, but by its own leadership, I can’t help but wonder how we ended up here. I can’t pin it down to one event, there were many missteps over the years. Books have been written on the subject, and it’s something we should all study and reflect upon. But we have more pressing matters at hand. How do we to fix it? It can be overwhelming and it’s easy to lose hope. It’s much easier to believe that there is no point. Our leaders hate us. Why bother having an opinion, why bother caring? River addresses that question quite eloquently in this video. Thank you River - you’re on point, as always ❤

The picture that was taken of Camila during the speech by the wonderful veteran, who talked about, losing his best friend, was probably one of the most beautiful and poignant pictures ever taken of her. Her eyes were filled with tears, and the look of just sadness and loss on her face was made for a truly amazing photograph. I think she and the king and prince of Wales acquitted themselves with grace and dignity. My father's family immigrated to Canada from Hungary after WWI when he was a young lad of maybe 12 years. When WWII broke out Canada became involved. They, too, took part in the Juno Beach assault. My father was one of many of the Canadian Corps that liberated Holland. The Canadian troops pushed back the Germans and brought tons of food to those who had been starving, many surviving by eating tulip bulbs and sugar beets. The Dutch opened their homes to billet their rescuers. My father stayed with a family in The Hague. After the war, this grateful family had tracked my father down. By then he had married and started a family. As a token of their gratitude toward the Canadian soldiers, and my father particularly, this family would send us a parcel from Holland every Christmas. I have many wonderful memories of the parcels.

My parents met in Torquay during the planning of the invasion. My English mother having been sent when the “Pru” evacuated its London offices to during the Blitz. My American father was a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy’s amphibious forces. Both had stories about that time that suffused my childhood with a melancholy, as I think back. Some things our father shared with my brothers that I didn’t know about until many years later after his passing. My mother’s memories about the American soldiers just before their deployment to Omaha Beach showed their youthful courage when they must have been heavy hearted at the prospect of facing the enemy head on. God bless all the soldiers of the Allied Forces for their courage and dedication and sacrifice to save the free world from tyranny.

It gives me great sadness knowing that my children, born in the early 2000's, will never know that great freedom we had and felt and took for granted, particularly in the US, prior to 9/11. Before we knew to our souls that if terrorists could attack New York City they could attack anywhere. Before the intrusiveness of TSA searches, data mining, and a social media where youthful indiscretion could lead to cancelation of a person's career and prospects. It's no wonder these new generations suffer such anxiety and depression. It is truly the responsibility of those who remember The Before to protect Freedom and barricade it against the powers that would erode it.

You are so right in many ways River, these men and women were heroes….they fought and died for our freedom and sadly, it is slowly being eroded by pettiness and lack of respect for history

Bravo River!! No word salad here. I had 6 uncles in WWll. I've heard their stories and watched their eyes when they told them. We have a duty to protect what they won for us. This American grew up with an appreciation for the sacrifice of all those who served and now serve. ❤

We shall never forget what those brave men and women did during WWII. My Grandad served in the RAF his role was Ground Crew, he was a mechanic and worked on Lancaster Bombers when they came home after their missions, his wife My Nanna was a Land Girl in the Land Army here in the UK, they both met up during this time. Because of rationing they could not have a Wedding cake at their wedding River but many years later at their Golden Wedding Anniversary the family all chipped in to buy a Wedding cake for them which they had no idea about, they did not even know that there was going to be a party for them. So proud of them both and all the others that did their duty for our country. God Bless Them All And Lest We Forget xx

@@JuliaBrown-wl2cd Fantastic they were both exceptional people and very well respected in the village they lived in. Grandad was an absolute gentleman, always dressed smartly, shirt and tie shoes polished etc as was my Nanna. Both no longer with us but never forgotten. Thankyou for your lovely comment and enjoy your day.

@@marciacoe4610 It is they were very well respected people as are all those that served during that time and those that serve now including our King and Queen who serve our country on the global stage.

Thank for all your wonderful comments about freedom and your respect for our veterans, River. I am just catching up after my visit to Normandy last week where I was very fortunate to meet some of the veterans personally. Those so sadly lost were honoured as they must always be. We will remember them.
