My C7 ZR1 begs to differ. My dad has a 2011 C6 ZR1 and there's honestly no comparison. It's a little lighter (~40 lbs), which isn't enough to compensate for the C7's additional HP and TQ. His is also a M/T, whereas mine is an A/T.

Lastly, we should also keep in mind that the McLaren is basically double the price as the ZR1 Corvette. Going from 115,000-130,000 to 330,000 is a big price spike in terms of what you get for your money.

detoxx03 was limp mode at 6700 in 4th from a MAP sensor. We kept having to pull over and reset. It’s fixed now. Lol the 720 didn’t have to do that. There are perks to being stock with little to no bugs to work out!

Driver mod made this happen, because like he said any slip up and the 720s is gone. Both excelent dirvers with similar power 720s at 700 whp and vette at 800 whp, 100 less pounds on the mclaren with that dct vs a traditional 6 speed. Traction and driver made this happen, very impressive machines guys keep up the good work.

Wait a minute! In 3 out 4 races, it was very clear the ZR1 was a tad quicker than the 720S! Only in Race #4 was the ZR1 a "little" behind the 720S, probably the driver misshifted or something or whatever. Why is the C6 the winner here? You can clearly see the ZR1 was really pulling away even just a bit, and only after it eases on the throttle in the end that the 720S apparently goes ahead. Not surprising since it's really the power to weight ratio that is the determining factor here. Yes, a simple power to weight ratio, with the ZR1 having 900+ ponies and 3,300 weight against the 720S having only 680 and only 100 pounds lighter at 3,200 pounds. Go figure. Even if the Vette has exactly 900 hp only, 3,300 divided by 900 is 3.7:1 while the McLaren at 3,200 divided by 680 is higher at 4.7:1. Simple math, simple physics. Also, it was a rolling start. If it was a standard drag race from dead stop, the McLaren might be a little ahead of the Vette in a 1/4 mile run because of better launch control. Of course, a standard or stock ZR1 doesn't stand a prayer even against a stock 720S. End of story.

That C6 with the correctly picked Turbo would be crazy fast. A turbo car is the way to go once you start approaching 1000 hp in the Vette. There are a lot of 1000+ hp Vettes, and most seem to be turbo cars. So that might be the next challenge (A well build street Vette with a big turbo setup). Like I said before, you need to find a Vette that traps 150 mph or more to beat the 720s from a roll.

That being said when you modify which I always have you give up some of the civility of the car...Which to me really does not bother me but in the long run of ownership it can... Took a lot of money to properly modify that ZR1 I'm guessing but that McClaren costs more..Even though your paying for the McClaren if you got it secondhand you won't lose much on the resale...

Since you asked, I'll answer. You don't need 800+ hp to beat the 720S. The best combo is actually to go the other way with your build. Start with a C6Z06 and take it to 630whp with HCI, that's all you need. The detail that most miss is the gearing, which is where the 720S shines. To address this, you swap in the ZR1's transmission and add 4.10 gears in the back. This would essentially replicate both the power to weight ratio of the 720S and it's gearing while having less traction issues than a higher powered ZR1. The combo I am referring to is being used by a few of us on LS7 cars and we take out higher powered ZR1's all the time.

Mike beat one badly where it wasn’t even close and driver wouldn’t have even matter while mike was spinning and starting off in the wrong gear to Limit wheel speed. with only 830-850whp and a 450+ weight difference and a big drag creating wing don’t believe the hype. . it doesn’t take that much. This is just a manual which are slower . I’ve beaten two in my area in Maryland and I don’t Make anywhere near 900 or 950 whp. However I have a Ysi race centrifugal blower which pulls harder up top than any roots can. I’m on pump gas not even e85 yet and it already traps close to what a tuned 720 traps . Tq and power under the curve . All dyno peak numbers are not the same the midrange and area under the curve along with shift points it what attention to detail gets and why some 800 whp vettes trap and et what some 1000 whp vettes do.

He said this is what it take for a C6 zr1, not a C7. And for the average person, this guys set up would still not be enough since most people can't drive a manual as well. 800whp in an auto C7 should be enough

Idk why all mclaren cars are so fast! Especially these 720 and 765lt cars. They are insanely fast for less then 700hp to the wheels

The C7 ZR1 is also a monster too! C6 is easier to be faster tho, thanks to it's weight!

That transmission is the only thing stopping that vette.....with a modern 10 speed that 720 would be destroyed....try a c8 with a small blower......it would be a fun race to see

Can’t you get your 720S on the Dyno so you’ll know for sure it’s true whp? Those vehicles make way more hp than you’re advertising stock. Good footage on those pulls.
