I think the reason for his retirement is because competition is getting more competitive now, however Alabama has sustained losses that the kept them from winning a national title and they're issue is the landscape of college football is changing.

He retired bc the playing field got to even. Alabama has 5 players projected to be drafted in first round this year and people kept saying how this is the best job he’s ever done getting bama to the playoffs w this team. The problem is the backups. In the past they sat on his bench and Gary danielson talked all game about how these players would start anywhere else. Now they are starting elsewhere and he has to play against them.

Fur ex, in the biggest games, he was * 0-1 against Harbaugh in PO games * 1-1 against 10 win TN teams * 1-1 against Kelly when Kelly had SEC players * 1-2 against Dabo in NC games * 0-1 against Meyer in PO games * 1-1 against Herbie in NC games * 0-1 against Chizik finished with a team with at least as many wins as he had. I can go on. But where is the greatness in the above records. Saban is the Greatest, Most Overrated Coach in History.
