It's been nearly 40 years since I've been to Mangonui. I remember driving round the water front when I was a sales rep, in a nearly new Commodore, during a storm. A wave crashed over the road and over my car! Very exciting! I'm glad my boss at the time didn't see that. hehe. Gotta say, it's amazing how much David has grown since you guys got back to New Zealand. It's like you have this different member of the family!

So happy to see a bit of your New Zealand... your last stop and snorkel looks so much like central coast California... without all the Cali problems. Consider using West Systems clear epoxy on your cockpit table when the time comes... it's much harder and longer lasting than varnish... research UV protecting the epoxy first though... there are various methods... I've used it on interior items thus far, and love it... I'll try it on exterior next, but the old varnish has to be completely removed, or allowed to weather off first...

just a suggestion if you toeing the dingy all the time especially at night runs to add a AIS sender to the dingy. Not the first time i have seen a captain sad when in the morning the dingy line during the night has broken and no dingy in sight. At least with the AIS activated you can find the dingy (will need to register the AIS sender)

Just found your channel and subbed. Curious how you find your Duogen in wind mode? I see you didn’t have it fully up. I have one and I have found the link between the gearbox at the top and the vertical drive rod is often braking when the wind gets over a certain speed and so it’s very expensive given the price of the links. Have you had that problem? Love NZ, have some relatives in Mt Maunganui and have been there a few times. You didn’t try the hot springs there, they are fabulous. Thanks, Andy UK
@SailingNikau
@SailingNikau 5 ай бұрын
Hey mate, thanks for the sub. I hated the wind mode, to noisy! I'll get a fixed prop water gen next time. I didn't have the problem you were talking about though.
@AndyUK-Corrival
@AndyUK-Corrival 5 ай бұрын
@@SailingNikau Hey, thanks for reply. I didn’t mind the noise tbh, some Chinese units are far worse. Water gen mode seemed to produce more amps but I think I may go to a D400 and and watt&sea water gen mind you they are not cheap. Fair winds, look out for the Sailing Brothers, sailing a Rival 34 around NZ, check their channel, two ordinary blokes from Wales who sailed all the way to NZ. Cheers. Andy UK
