Near but neighbours we are. :) I'm 73 kms south east of where you call home in NZ. I can understand your desire to plan new adventures, and do something different, the World is such a crazy place at the moment. When you get out of MIQ and head home, would be so cool if the possibility ever was that could meet you guys. Have followed you beginning to end over the past few months. Thanks for sharing all that you have, am sure many others would agree - You've made us feel like part of your family, and probably brought back memories for others too as they've recognized places you've all visited together. The friendships made along the way, the fellowship, endurance and human spirit. Enjoy your BBQ tonight with Wilson, lol. Cheers from NZ. M

It's no joke how the most innocuous of things can get very nasty very quickly. I was on operations with the Army a few years back. I had in the past badly sprained each ankle 3 or 4 times in my life, so ankle pain was something I was quite used to. We were quite active on this occasion and when I got up one morning and my ankle felt a bit stiff I didn't think anything of it. There wasn't really much spare time to stop and have a look anyways. 24hrs later, in the early hours of the following day, I was in a serious amount of pain and was lucky to bump into someone that I knew was a doctor, and asked if he could take a quick look. I was off to a field hospital within minutes. An infection had taken hold in what might have been an insect bite (the source was never clearly located) but within that time, my immune system had no answer to the infection and the next stage is necrosis (tissue death). Extremely painful I couldn't stand any contact from the knee down. I was immediately put on serious amounts of antibiotics and fluids. The summary from the doc, which I will never forget was 'Fingers crossed the antibiotics do the trick, but we can only give it 24hrs, and if there's no improvement, we'll be surgically removing parts of your foot'. Thankfully, the antibiotics did stop it getting worse and I checked myself out about 3 days later with pockets of pills and a limp. I've never underestimated an infection since.

Yip I totally get it now. Scary how fast it can happen. My immune system normally works great but that bacteria kicked my ass!

@@SailingNikau same here. Bounced back from lots of other things, but this kicked my arse and my immune system had nothing. Safe travels and looking forward to hearing what you decide to do next. I am heading off for either Phuket or Bali in the next couple of month for an extended stay, at least 6 months, maybe longer.

I just found out about your channel from the Nautilus Yacht Management video which was in my "recommended" videos. I'm sorry to hear that your extended family adventure is ending, but you have to do whatever is best for everyone. Your Bavaria is a beautiful, well designed boat and I wish I had the $ and time to take her off your hands, but it's not in the cards right now. Regarding your leg wound, as a podiatrist in Massachusetts, I didn't want to see less, I wanted to see all the gory details! 😁 I hope everything heals well. Finish the full courses of antibiotics and keep doing that daily wound care! (message me if you need an independent consultant! 😷) You have a great family and I wish you the best of luck in all your future adventures.

Not sure what you mean by that. School? Values? Faith? Holistic education? Happy to chat but kind of a big subject. Can you be specific?

You should be more concerned with all the Kiwi children in our very f***ked up education system. Our kids grew up on board Windora sailing the Planet having never gone to school. They brought a house together at the age of 17 and 18, the youngest semi retired at 30. They are definitely not normal. ⛵🌍⛵🌎 Phil

@@philandlyndachristieson8808 I don’t think ours are heading back to school mate. Maybe for a term to catch up with friends. We do like NZ correspondence though.
