They would realize he is a man who failed to successfully manage a $5M veterans charity and not managed over 1K people…. Then expect him to come in and manage a workforce of over 3M people across over 150 countries and a $800 billion budget.. he has never managed a large organization then he would be thrust in to manage (just to name a few): army, navy, marine corps, Air Force, DIA, NSA, NGA, DLA, DCAA, DMA, DARPA, DTRA, and the list goes on… How can you possibly say objectively someone with that little experience will successfully run ALL of DoD

As a 21 year veteran who has served in numerous missions around the world to include Iraq, while assigned to the 1st Armored Division, 3d Infantry Division and the 101st Airborne Division , I applaud the choice of Pete Hegseth to lead the Department of Defense. He has been “boots on the ground “ and seen the blood of his soldiers stain the ground while deployed in a foreign land. We don’t need someone who wrapped up in policy issues, we need a Warrior who knows, first hand, the cost to the American Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines of miss guided “policy makers “ and politicians who have never strapped on a uniform , grabbed a rife and stood on the wall so America can stay safe. I too am a veteran (of both Active and Reserves), although, I was too old for OIF / OEF. America has had several SECDEF's of both Military service and of "Political Professionals". Without going into minute detail, my personal opinion is that nominee Hegseth CANNOT do any worse than some of the previous holders of that office. Hopefully, he would not replicate the mistakes and disasters of "Kabul", "Benghazi", "Mogadishu" as well as some others. As former President Trump encouraged the "Black Community" to vote for him, "What do you have to lose?"

During my 20 years Army will the same thing, a lot of our officers were Either Army Reserve or National Guard, some were good and others weren’t! @ agree better than the current idiot politicians. These are the types get the troops killed and maimed as evidences in retreat. Reserve was designation for most officers on active duty. Air guard is reserve national guard,but are allowed to be reserve or active duty. Most pilots serve active ,and others too, serve active and come under the state and federal. Air is deferent than ground. Most civilian ground do not want to play army as a job. They hold down civilian,money better,and not as strenuous. Pilots need to do so much air time etc,and flying is fun,great if you love to fly. Also,lot of travel. Also, during Vietnam,certain mos were held and not allowed to leave service. Air being one. Shortage in pilots for planes,helicopters.

Our military needs a man like Pete, for 20 years it's been on decline. I see our military today and the standards have declined. I spent 20 years in the military as an enlisted man to an officer. The standards we had in the 80's and the 90's were there for a reason, to train to defend our freedoms and to maintain a high standard in military bearing and standard. After I left the military I worked on a college campus, recruiters would come onto the campus wearing field uniforms over weight they looked like slobs. It angered me but that is what the modern military is, I hope Pete deals with these issues and runs the Obama, Bidens off from the Army.

As far as Petes military service, it's nothing more heroic than any other man or woman who served over seas. I'm sure he was a good officer, the bronze stars were for Merit not Valor. I'm not taking anything away from that, I too served in Iraq and Afghanistan in the National Guard. Every officer and every senior NCO received a Bronze Star for there service award. Everyone else received an Army Commendation for their service award. Ask any solider who served over seas. I agree with Petes views about how the military has become too woke and needs to be addressed. However beyond that Pete has no experience. He was a company grade officer while serving over seas and became a field grade officer back home in the Army National guard. This does not give him the experience needed to be the S of D. I also have a problem with his adultery and cheating. Had he been on active duty and committed adultery he would have been court-martialed. Pete has a problem being faithful and sleeping around. He doesn't use good judgement, that can be a problem for him as S of D. Bottom line I hope he is not confirmed.

I agree. I applaud Pete's service as a company grade officer in Iraq & Afghanistan. The skill set required to command a rifle company in combat is totally different from the skill set and broad experience required to direct a 3.0 million person Defense Department. Note. Those are administrative Bronze Stars. No mention of a combat V. I've seen a lot of Os write themselves up for Bronze Stars who barely left the wire. Being a good soldier does not mean he would be a good Secretary of Defense. General Patton was a brilliant soldier and an extraordinary tactician, but he would never have made a good Secretary of defense. There are very different traits called for to lead a platoon or the complete Armed Forces and their civilian counterparts.

Unless your Bronze Star(s) bear “V” devices, they only signify having been in a combat zone (they were handed out in VietNam for every six months in country, regardless of activity). Hegseth saw combat, so I do not question the appropriateness of his awards … but … judging from his medal stack, his contributions were minor and lacked participation at the policy level. He was a small unit operator, which does not enable you command major formations. Kicking down doors does not teach you how to conduct counterterrorism campaigns. At each point in his military experience, Hegseth was told where to go and what to do. This is a propaganda piece meant to overstate his qualifications.

Impressive but not sure how his background uniquely qualifies him to be S of the DOD considering THOUSANDS of vets have had similar military and educational experiences, but if were to be confirmed hopefully he'll do well and certainly not kill any serviceman with a terribly thrown ax like he almost did in NYC recently. National guard meet monthly,do reserve training 2 weeks a year,called up for stateside emergencies . In recent years sent overseas because of lack of troops. They are our home front emergency force. Do not confuse with our active duty military who are constant training in readiness and job. The national guard is military made up of civilians to be called in national emergencies. They live a civilian life and only do military irregularly as a side job with great benefits and pay for little time. They make more on a drill night than a active private does. Defense secretary should be a person of career military background who has built a reputable professional military resume. If you served regular you would see behind all the flowery wording that promotes Pete. And it is promotion. He comes from privilege and has built himself up ,Princeton to start after high school,an elitist school,rotc at Princeton for school pay and paycheck,and an officer rank right out of a civilian school,2nd lieutenant. Then a basic training,then civilian life with some periodic military. National guard is civilians,not full time regular military. There is a big difference. National guard roles would be jobs such as security guards,backup to regular army. The ranks and titles are also a part,but not in the same capacity of a regular army person. It all sounds good,but look deeper. Pete might be a good buddy and fun,and certainly vocal,but not quality for defense position. It needs to be an experienced military. Pete also seems to not handle his personal life well,party animal,3 wives,numerous girlfriends,pregnant,8 children,not mature,and in order. You don’t give a responsible job to someone who cannot handle their personal life responsibility. Especially if it involves men and women and he has issues with one element. And affects a countries outcome militarily. He appears to be a sex predator,which has plagued the military for years and on the road to correction. Much thought has to be put in this. It cannot be he is a nice guy,but shit!

Just a question of curiosity and, well, commissioned service experience. For reference: USAF/ USN ‘72-‘80 commissioned officer service after ROTC and AOCS respectively. Pete Hegseth as many of us has made serious personal and adult decisions, and notwithstanding that frailty, served with distinction and honor. HOWEVER, imo as SecDef Pete should respectfully withdraw and decline. This is based NOT on the media and opponents reports of misbehavior, clearly the woman involved has a challenging personal life to defend. MY opinion has to do with command leadership, and should command be held to a lesser standard than those lead. Pete is an admitted (and the reported episode is one of several) serial adulterer, and as such should withdraw based on Article 134 of the UCMJ. He should not expect his behavior be judged with a different standard than any soldier, marine, seaman, airman, or space force member, whether enlisted, NCO, or officer. As SecDef Pete is expected to set the example; sadly, in this nomination, I don’t believe Pete meets the required standard.

I do not favor Hegseth, but I do acknowledge the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, something that the four-star General Petraeus and the current SecDef General Austin do not have (they have Combat Action Badges), which means as Infantry officers they avoided combat in their early careers when there were a lot of combat opportunities. Hegseth’s disdain for women in combat is disqualifying. When the issue arose after Gulf War I (in which women died for our country), an Air Force Major General (female) most aptly put it that “women have the same right to die for their country as men”.

As a veteran, I appreciate his service. But he is not qualified to lead the DOD! He wouldn't even pass a background check - which is worrying. But the new administration isn't concerned with this...disturbing. I would also add that my father was also a veteran of the Korean War, two uncles served in WWII - one receiving the Medal of Honor and buried in Luxembourg. All we served/fought for is now lost by "patriots"....sad
